Well, it was the 1970s. Alot of airlines had some questionable taste. Then again we are talking about the decade that gave us shag carpeting and yellow and green colored appliances.
@MyleneJ. "they still provide a comfortable and relaxing flight at a sustainable price". Ofcourse they do!! A stale sandwich with peanuts , lost bags that they charged an extra 50 bucks !!
@MyleneJ. Singapore Airlines is a flag carrier NOT luxury as you state!! Prices on international routes both carriers compete are nearly the same!! I've been in the airline business for nearly 2 decades and will tell you UA is NOT a world class airline.! Rather, it's a airline that operates on short term profits for it's shareholders at the passengers expense!! Untied(dot)com. Enlighten yourself 26 years in the business!!!!
MyleneJ "Indeed,United,Was is and will continue to be Americas premier Airline."
Longbeachliner "United #1"
God help us, the USA if you honestly believe this ignorant nonsense... I suggest to these 2 individuals, fly Singapore Airlines and see what a Premier airline is because it's not the bus drivers at United!!! Yes Peterfans I've seen
Dave Carols video/song "united breaks guitar's and advise anyone whom flies view it because it shows the reality of United Airlines ,a crop duster..!!
@sanitman1 I said -Americas- premier airline. Singapore and Similar airlines are Luxury airlines, they exist not for the purpose of Air travel itself and more for the purpose of shoving all the luxury you can into an aluminum can, the ticket price reflects this too. I've been in this Industry for 26 years, and can tell you UA is a world class airline, even if they don't cram the same level of flash into their jets, They still provide a comfortable and relaxing flight at a Sustainable Price.
@Longbeachliner Indeed, United, Was is and will continue to be Americas' premier Airline. In a round about way so is Pan Am seeing as United Bought pan am way back when ;p
@MyleneJ United did not 'buy out! Pan Am. Pan Am sold United their south pacific routes system. Some of the aircraft was also part of the deal. also a great number of employees were offered an employee package with United Airlines.
@Longbeachliner If you want to be That specific about it. Pan Am Sold off its entire Pacific Division which was 25% of Pan Am's total route structure, its 747s, and many Employees (Including MANY of the so Called McDonald Flight Attendants) to United in order to try and save Pan Am which was already a dieing company at this point. Then in 1990, Pan Am sold its Heathrow routes, to United. Pan Am's last remaining hub, Miami was split between United Airlines and American Airlines. You do the math.
United is No.1! Just wait until the new economy-class seat is introduced, and new buy-on-board meal options. You will be pleasantly surprised! And don't forget you can choose your seat and print your boarding pass all from your home or office!
"united is no 1" Clearly you got your brains up your ass!! Give it up already..! You mention perks other 10x better airlines have had for years...Gotta laugh at this pathetic statement..

many people travel with flip flops on, so that they can get through the security checkpoint faster.
Although air travel is supposedly safer than traveling by car, security with the airline industry since 9/11 has taken the charm completely away from flying.
Before that horrific day, could could have gone right up to the gates and shopped and everything.
hahha i miss those times! I'm 19, but used to fly with my granparents since very small and we used to go very chic to the airports, nowadays i see people flying even with flipflops! :/
I believe the song and the singer is Jake Holmes, who is responsible for the classic Army "Be All That You Can Be", Gillette's "Best a Man Can Get" and many other notable jingles. The ad premiered in the late 1970s, I think.
Pan-Am, the way the world wants to fly until 1991 when we fold> because of US government indifference, US government stupidity and long and behold US politicians favoring crop dusters like Delta,United and American airlines to fly Pan American pioneering international routes that have become the laughing stock of commercial aviation..! Each of these crop dusters continue to offer piss poor inflight service, questionable aircraft maintenance..In general a shitty product..Indeed The U.S. has fallen
Oh c'mon it is that bad !! Maybe your a united airline employee or fan that has head in the clouds...You dont have to take my word for it..Do yourself a favor and checkout ---.untied.--- and swallow that bitter pill..
Why dont you start reading books on the subject and you shall get the answers..!
Furthermore,, united employees have lost their pensions..MSNBC has stated united the worst airline..So much for employee ownership! Bankruptcy! Now heres a perfect example of united airline incompetance...!! Don't forget US government bailed out united after 9/11
This commercial came out in 1980 or 1981. I wish someone had another Pan Am commercial that also came out in 1980. It used a Frank Sinatra song abut saying Hello to a brand new world and ended with "Say Hello to a brand new world, Say Hello to Pan Am!".
Old TV ads are the best for that, fuzzy, wistful, nostalgic flashback feeling. A glimpse of the way we were. In twenty, or fifty, or a hundred years we will look back at ourselves online, (or Online's future equivalent), and smile... or shudder. Or both! Who knows?
In any case, thanks for posting that great old ad. I also love the kids and mom / flight attendant at the end, "Pan Am, yay!"

Every day the world awakens
People dream of what awaits them
Getting ready to go on out and find their world
Every day we fly we show'em
The experience of knowing
What the world wants, when they want to fly
The World
Pan Am, We Fly the World The Way The World Wants To Fly

このような著名会社が1991年に消滅するとは、信じがたいことです。パンナムは黄金期アメリカの象徴だったと思いますが。
I do not think that Pan Am goes bankrupt in 1991 as far as I watch this commercial.
Pan Am thinks that it was the symbol of the American golden age, but.

My parents still dress up to fly--my dad in a suit, my mom in dress and heels. They are shocked when they pick me up at the airport and I'm in jeans.
Travel used to be glamorous and exotic... now it's almost like riding the bus (with a lot more security)
