  • On my math paper it says to find the height (h) and its given the (a) part of a right triangle and but I have to figure out the (b) part of the triangle (aka (h)

  • So we have two right triangles here. One has a hypotenuse of 10 and a side of 8, so the left part of the base is 6. (36 + 64 = 100) That means the other triangle's 2 sides are 8 and 12, and as 64 + 144 = 208, the hypotenuse of that triangle is 14.42... not 14. They lie to us blatantly. They could have used a triangle with base of 14, height of 12, and the two top sides 15 and 13, and the area would be 84, and the math would have been correct. Ugh.

  • well...no i had to use a specific formula that i found in the internet....if u use the Pythagorean theorem is more probable that it wont be accurate... cause u can divide the triangle perfectly where the high suppose to be...=/

  • put the lower left point of the triangle in (0,0). Construct the 2 circles the upper point has to lie on: x²+y²=10² and (x-18)² + y² = 14². This lets itself solve to x = some number (1st equasion: y² = 100-x², substitute in the 2nd one). Then you have the x-coord of the top point, it's y-coord is the 8m (:= "a"). Pythagoras: x² + a² = 10². You just calculated x (x-coord of the top point of the triangle), so you'll find that a = 8 or -8 (the triangle could be upside down mathematically).

  • @shadovv24 Its not an equalteral triangle so if the base is split it wont be evenly seperated with the angle bisector.

  • One small problem -- as near as I can figure, the height of a triangle having sides 18, 10 and 14 is not 8 -- it's approx. 7.74. So the area is more like 70 than 72. There was really no need to show the 10 and 14 -- they are not used in the problem. But if you're going to show them, you should get it right. Maybe they think rounding to the nearest whole number is close enough. (It caught my eye because hypotenuse of 10 and side of 8 is a 3-4-5 triangle, other side 6. 8-12-14 does not work.
