Brown dwarfs emit very faint light, but do not undergo nuclear fusion as stars do. They can be as large as small stars, but are generally no more than 2 or 3 jupiter masses. But attributing cyclical extinctions to something that we haven't found yet? This is very sloppy science, if you call it science at all. The solar system travels around our galaxy in cycles, The precession of the equinoxes is another cycle, but both of these are actually "true". Read a god damn text book.

A brown dwarf traveling through the ort cloud would pick up so much dust around it that it would be nearly invisible in regular light. A 3000 yr orbit would make its existence basically unknown to astronomy. The star system Gamma Leonis has such an orbit. The proposed orbit is between mars and juptier, i dont think it would have such an effect on earth as to start earthquakes and disasters. Asteroids would be winged around, and there might be some solar activity. The end of the world, no.
