  • I actually cry over this imagining families coming to this place for vacations and now its left abandoned those memories fading the building left to rot and decay with time very sad :(

  • What is that place and what happened to it?..looks really cool

  • slowly returning to nature.

  • Nice video thanks for sharing the pictures.

  • Another casualty of the Borshct belt. So many lovely resorts laid waste by changing tastes and the jet.

  • Well done...one of the VERY rare occasions when the music is appropriate

  • why they abandoned this resort?

  • You should grab any of those pay phones they are worth big money.

  • i always get arrested when I tresspass

  • It's a shame what is happening to this country and our state. Your video depicts the future like a post economic holocaust, like one of those History/Discovery channel shows about life after we're gone. What can we do to stop the bleeding?

  • @Bobster986 Build a wall around Washington DC.

  • Very beatiful done!

  • theres something so sad about the deep end sign

  • This place is beautiful!

  • Many a resort and vacation spot has been abandoned in the Catskill region of NY. it's eerie and sad to see these places tat probably provided so much fun and so many memories left in ruins. As if the people just upped and vanished. may I ask what song this is?

  • Wow. I went to college at Sullivan Community College. I worked as a lifeguard for two years at both the indoor pool, outdoor pool and at the small lake on the grounds golf course when the Etess family ran the resort in the early 80's. These pics are amazing. The indoor pool used to have brass poles surrounding it that I worked to keep polished ... And there were water jets and colored lights that we would turn on for special occasions that lite the indoor pool. The roof always leaked .... B

  • Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Thats one fucked up place !!!!!

  • high art. a true catalyst for a reflective meditation of the fleeting nature of all things.

  • I've been obsessed with the abandoned catskill's resorts for about 3 years now, mostly Grossinger's and the Pine's, but unfortunately I live in Indiana and I still haven't made a trip. These places seem more or less like a fantasy to me now, I couldn't even imagine going. I WILL make a trip someday.

  • damn ima bout to go in there ive been there millions of time to smoke and drink but never accualy went inside im bout to go on an adventure whos with me lol

  • @joeL63007 me me me im in saugerties

  • This is so sad. Grossingers was such a lovely place. I remember as a kid going to the barrel jumping each winter with my family. Also going downstairs and watching the people swimming in the pool. The youth group from church use to go there and swim each winter also.

  • It's a Good Thing that I met The Love of My Life (well Maybe Two). It's too bad!! In "MY Day" that was THE place to meet a new "guy" and also The Concord!!! It was a lovely place to meet new friends - where do young/old people go to meet a guy/gal - A BAR???? I drove up there last year and it was SAD!!!!

  • I remember my swimming lessons in the indoor pool. Later as a teen I babysat there every friday and saturday night.

  • @mysticalmalissa That is so fantastic! I'm sure you have some amazing stories! I would love to hear them!

  • should scoff up those old phones, nice WE325 and payphone

  • Heartbreaking. This was part of my family history. So sad.

  • After watching this video, I feel compelled to clean up my room.

  • I love this video. The music is perfect for it. :)

  • Unfortunately, this is a common site in the 'Catskills' - once important resorts before the days of air conditioning and the need for close getaways have turned to abandonment. Places like this are littered around the region.

  • Looks a bit like the Chernobyl level from CoD4

  • i used to work at the outdoor pool in 1983. I was 18 and out on my own for the first time with my own apartment. When i recently stood at that very site, it was like looking at an apocolyptic time warp. And in that, saw my own mortality as well. It felt like a million light years ago..................

  • @GothFaery65 Yes, it is good to know this will all end one day and we can to begin to see there is something bigger than us all.

  • those pools were gorgeous! especially the indoor one. What a great video.

  • 1:09-1:16 That pool is HUGE!

  • reminds me of rose red

  • Is the place haunted at all?

  • I would like to find out who the current owner of Grossinger's is......does anyone have any idea?

  • @JackAndJosie1 thanks so much for the answer to that, i found it very strange. I am fascinated by the old and stuff thats no longer here. Thanks again.

  • Phenomenal photos of this resort on your Flickr page my man....captured a grand story. Well done!!!

  • DO ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE INFO ON THE OWNER I WOULD LIKE TO RESTORE THE RESORT IF ANYONE HAV INFO . OR A CONTACT NUMBER CAN U PLEASE FORWARD THE INFO THANK YOU .

  • Some reasons why the Catskills resorts declined: old guests retired to Florida; yuppies flew to Europe; seniors bused to Atlantic City. In recent years, efforts to implement gambling have provided hope of an area rebirth.

  • Thank you for this video; it was well done & brought back many memories. While I was in college, I had a summer job in their dining room. It was a plum of a job, because the tips were the best. They also had 2 kitchens, since they served Kosher food. It's so sad viewing time's effects on the resort industry in the Catskills.

  • Absolutely beautiful video. Haunting but amazing. Well done.

  • can I ask maybe a stupid question?? I googled the name Grossingers and it came up with another site that looks all lush and beautiful. Did this location close in 86 and move somewhere else?? or is it another location with same name

  • great music

  • dude this looks like that misson in MW2

  • where was the landing strip at this place? anyone know? how long was it?

  • What an amazing film. Music is perfect and haunting! Sets a perfect tone for the images of the sheer loneliness of the place and the dreams that are gone...

Glad someone knew who it was. Wanted to find out. I'm a film editor myself and this completely drew me in! BEAUTIFUL photography!!!

  • Rat and snake pit.

  • it was a Jewish resort. Maybe intermarriage and secularization did it in. Or maybe with the Jet Age people flew farther afield? I went to a single's shindig in one of those resorts in 1999 but not THAT one, obvisously

  • Holly crap. Someone with good taste in Music. VAST - Lady Of Dreams.

  • @IcantBeleieveIT Thanks everyone asks what song that is! Glad you know it. Even though VAST has changed their musical stylings from the first few albums I still love them.

  • It's my understanding this was repossessed. Do banks actively seek buyers, or do they more often just assume ownership and let the property "sit" until THEY'RE contacted?

  • OH HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN COMES TO MIND

  • It's hard to believe how this place, and the Catskills in general, thrived for for so long and is now largely a pile of abandoned ruins--it's just sad to realize that whole era is completely over. Now I'm too young to have been familiar with this place during it's heyday, but I realize what a great part of Americana the history of this area represents. It's too bad some things can't remain, but I guess times change and people move on for various reasons.

  • Very cool photos.

    "There is beauty in breakdown"

  • it reminded me of titanic too. Very Good Video

  • So sad. My Mom grew up just outside of Liberty. Might have to go check this place out next time I visit my relatives there.

  • Excellent soundtrack. Perfect.

  • A great job.

You know the woman who wrote dirty dancing grow up going there. So some of her she remembered groaning up there. Cool history the Jews called it Solon's belt. That part of the catskills.

  • Can you still gain access?

  • Wow, nice video. Looks huge, I could be in there for days! Is it still around?

  • @Bllackguard666 Sure is, was just there a few weeks ago :)

  • @miragebym Ah sweet! TY for getting back. I'll have to check it out before it is gone.

  • @miragebym know where i can find any recent pics?

  • @miragebym Awesome. I plan on going next weekend.

  • very well done.. impressive.. while watching it all that I kept saying was "this is so sad".. being one of many who grew up in the area (never actually being inside).. I always wondered what fancy folks were there.. and now I see this?? just breaks my heart... I get an odd feeling of .. one day.. is this what all we know will look like? ~ I hope not.

    thank you again...

  • The music makes this even more compelling.

  • This was wonderful, but sad. I like how the photos of what it was like in its heyday were interspersed with what it looks like today.

  • how did it get abandoned?

  • @MegaModelMan Google Catskill resorts. If you're into old buildings or history It's a very interesting story. There's a ton of these abandoned resorts scattered through this area. Vacationing in the Catskills used to be the thing to do!

  • thats liberty? lol! my whole family lives there...they never told me about that...

  • WOW i never was there but this made me even sad, where have your gone joe D

  • Its a shame that a large piece of history in the catskills ended up like this i was born in liberty and remember when the hotel was open

  • @cuks72 Me too. During which decade(s) did you live in Liberty?

  • Looks like allot of stuff has been torn down. like the stuff along the outdoor pool,

  • What happened for it to get like this...I remember going there with my parents for a weekend Jimmy Sturr polka getaway...they forced us to play bingo on the bus...and I recall Jewish guests had their own dining room. That fasinated me as a kid. We laughed when dad asked for fish balls...The indoor pool was beautiful..

  • I can't get over this video, hauntingly beautiful!!!! Excellent photos. Please do more!!!

  • this is the best video of the "closed" Grossingers, thanks for posting this.

  • @JORDANWASAGEM Thank you Jordan!

  • what a ghostly film ! i kept thinking of titanic...first class presentation

  • @ThirdDegreeWitch Thanks so much TDW! A few others have made that comparison as well. You are very kind

  • I was at Grossinger's for my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary in 1984. Very sad.

  • The Music is by a fantastic group called VAST. The song is "Lady of Dreams"

  • Great shots, emotions flow with music. What's the music please?

  • Wow truly awesome pictures both here and on your blog!! You have an awesome eye!

  • Oh dear this is just so sad it makes me want to cry. How come so many of these resorts abandoned in New York?
