This song was originally released on Little River Band's eight studio album called "Playing to Win" it was the second album to feature John Farnham on lead vocals and the first to be recorded by the band in the United States the title tracked which was released in December 1984 reached No.59 on the Australian Singles Chart, No. 15 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and No. 60 on The Billboard Hot 100.[4][5] Channel 7 used "Playing to Win" as its football promo for its VFL coverage in 1985.
not the same without David Hirschfelder with the keytar hanging off him....when John performed Playing to Win in 1990 at the Chain Reaction concert in Melbourne he had it perfect.....in my opinion the 1990 version was the best, had a much fuller and accurate sound.....and Johnny was alot younger too :)
I always think this song has a special significance for JF. When I hear it I think, good onya, you showed 'em. Don't know if anyone knows what I mean but yeah, I think he was really playing to win at that time.
Awesome singer

John Farnham is probably one of the best vocalists to ever come out of Australia in my opinion. Awesome entertainer. He's still got it.

I believe John was giving a glimpes of what he would do with Whispering Jack with this song.
Farnham And Hirschfelder WERE Playing to Win.
...And John WON!

It's funny how this song is so much better live than the original LRB studio version.

Oh yeah I know exactly why this is my favourite too. So much more upbeat than the other versions I have, and I have alot of them.
I'm still looking for a VHS copy of this, I hope they release this on DVD or something.
