I was fortunate enough to hear TC play this in various clubs all over the north side of Chicago... Wise Fools, The Bulls, Quiet Knight, and of course The Earl of Old Town. This song has haunted me for nearly 40 years now...nothing on earth is better than hearing it live...just TC and his guitar. I'll probably heard it live 100 times...and have heard amazing shows in all genres since...but absolutely nothing can match this. Namaste...
TERRY CALLIER - in a word - GENIUS! Every single time I play something of his, quite literally just about ANYTHING, to someone who's just said to me "Terry WHO?" when I quote his name, is then seen speeding off down the road to their nearest record store, or, I suppose, web site and buying up as much as they can muster. Once converted, you never want to leave. I have absolutely LOVED his voice ever since buying his Turn You to Love album in the late 70's. The collection has grown since then!
I'm so glad I grew up with this guy in the 70's. He is still just as magical and even more healing now as he was then. This man is a gift. I sooooo thank my British friends for bringing this master songster back into our lives in this day and time. Man, do we need his soft, gentle, healing touch. Thank you.
This has to be my favorite song of all time. I know I said the same thing about a Tracy Chapman piece, but that was months ago. So, call me fickle, but I love this and I'm really partial to the original version. It has rich meaning for me.
