At least 95% of this rendition is note for note quoted from Mark O'Connor's version of the Orange Blossom Special on his New Nashville Cats album. Go figger!
To all those asking the name of this piece, this is a rather...creative rendition of the Orange Blossom Special. There's quite a bit of spur-of-the-moment improv here. Most sheet-music versions of it (which you can buy in a music shop or likely find online) won't have quite the frills his version does, but they will teach the basic tune, and you can make up whatever you want to from there, or try to copy what he does. A lot of the fun of it, though, is making up your own way of playing.
Ive been only playin since the summer and have to learn all my songs by ear. This is some of the best fiddle ive heard!! Wonder if i could learn it.....
You've got some of the notes from Mark's version; now control the bow. Mark played the A arpeggio run with separated bow strokes, not all in one or two bow strokes.
Also, since your from the classical world I'm sure you know but I'll remind you. Your right index finger is for power. Use it. Your squeekin. Your index finger will eliminate that problem.
I agree that he is obviously classically trained, and needs to loosen up a little, but I disagree that his heart isn't in it. Tell you the truth I've never liked that song. the only part that's any fun to watch or play is the double shuffle part. the rest of it is stupid train sound effects.
sweet...his playing reminds me of Chris Sexton (fiddle player for Nothin Fancy. He was 1st chair in orchestra all through collage and one of the best fiddlers I've heard) Bravo!
when u talk about american traditional music, don't forget people that build it at start... U will see, that it was not so "deep", but it was from the heart, like this episode. He is onest musician and his music followed me to dance with some pretty american lady on a farm:)
He was talented - I just don't like the arrangement. Maybe I'm partial to the one I use when I play; this one just didn't seem as... rich as the song was originally.
THE NAME SAYS IT ALL!!! KICK ASS Fiddling!!

Everybody doesn't have to play the song as it originally was played. May as well stick to sheet music, with that attitude.
As many times as I've played guitar to that tune, this guy would have really made me stretch!
