  • Why didn't the film makers stand at the end of the bridge handing out leaflets that offered support instead of filming. Very selfish behaviour,

  • If she's so depressed that she is willing to jump then nothing is Gunna stop her.. That one time she was stopped but she will try again

  • @69Australianhero69 Not necessarily. Perhaps this was the wake up call that made her go to therapy and begin to resolve the issues in her life. The kind of attitude you're displaying is incredibly dangerous. You can't just go around saying that there's no point trying to help suicidal people because they'll just kill themselves anyway. There are enough people in the world that would have just walked past her. We don't need more.

  • why would you ever want to hurt your family this hard.

  • Good on u buster, you risked your life to save another's. Hope she got the help she needed...

  • "and then I started taking pictures of her standing on the ledge there then I realised that this girl is about to jump." AH-DUH!!! ... At least he got the idea and helped in the end!

  • Some people get stopped from commiting suicide and then they are thankful so good on you man , I hope your efforts were not invane.

  • proud to be with him on one earth. so many people would have passed that woman, but only he did something. you're a hero.

  • That was a wonderful thing u did to save that women's save god bless your heart

  • hero :)

  • Suicides on the Golden Gate Bridge happen so often that some one set up cameras to capture it. If something happens so often chances are you'll catch it on video

  • So, did she get help and did it work, or did she come back another day?

  • I once read of a soldier in iraq who tried to commit suicide after his wife divorced him. That man lost everything. He had no house left, his child was taken from him, his wife left him.

Who can justify preventing someone who has had those disasters happen from killing themselves?

What, it will get better? Thats bullshit. When you lose everything it never gets better.

The soldier ended up getting dishonorably discharged because of the attempt.

    So fuck your suicide preventions.

  • @GreatYeazy being human isn't temporary

  • How did the person who was recording this know who exactly to keep the camera on...?

  • @darbytoral14 i don't know the exact answer to your question, but this is from the documentary 'the bridge'. they filmed the bridge all day for a year in 2004, filming jumpers, and i guess she was showing similar traits as other jumpers....

  • @tiberiius Ohhh okayy. That makes more sense now. Thank you for the info. I appreciate it.

  • God bless you, my young man.

  • who was recording it from a far?

  • Please stop using that stupid phrase "a permanent solution for a temporary problem." When have you not wanted to permanently solve a problem?! If its not permanent then the problem is just gonna come back. Not advocating suicide, though it is the persons decision, a poor one, but theirs. I'm just tired of such a stupid anti-suicide slogan.

  • @HiamMhee is it really that stupid of a slogan? depression, even if it's for your whole life, goes in cycles. there are ups and downs. if you jump when you are at a low, you will never be able to experience another up. then again, perhaps there is a depression where people are depressed 24/7 for their entire life. though i would think that is extremely rare, if not non-existent.

  • One thing i don't understand.. who sits there and records this?

  • If people wanna jump they will. Fuck ruining every high point with barbed wire

  • What if she wouldve fell when he picked her up? it almost looked as if she tried to jerk away from him. I think barriers should be added to the bridge, or maybe barbed wire or something that will shock you.

  • why make it so easy then for poeple to climb over the barrier??

  • LMAO, man handled. good for him.

  • this is amazing

  • A great documentary but the jangling music here is inappropriate.

  • there is far too many disrespectful comments for this video, it's unsettling

  • @joshjohnson3131 welcome to the land of youtube where people show their true, callous colors. :( sick world we live in.

  • the man is the best

  • I HEARD SHE TRIED ONCE B4 THIS ONE CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF SHE TRIED AGAIN

  • You're the hero man. I'm amazed by how easy it was for you to pull her back

  • @isabel keep watching the disney channel.Your not going to heaven either, eternal darkness.Enjoy life now ,this is no rehearsal

  • Another success story prevented.

  • @TheIda8D i wouldn't say that. if the woman really wanted to commit suicide she will try again later. imo

  • I would of put her in an Asylum. Damn America has to open those again

  • i would of let her jump and laughed

  • I'd be so pissed off if i was so close to escaping this world and someone stopped me.

  • . . . ahahah what? that chick seemed reasonably attractive, why did she wanna kill herself? she could have her pick of guys for christ sake

  • he is a wonderful man. great man

  • @AngeeBjG thx

  • In my city we have a bridge where many people have allegedly jumped off.......so they put up railings twelve feet high which curve inward making it nearly impossible to jump off.........why don't they do the same here if its so frequent?

  • @shitttty

Cost is the main issue I believe. Plus it would only prevent suicide from the bridge, not suicide in general.

  • thank you!

  • Bravo. Good man right there.

  • Hes a hero

  • @7RizaM Have you watched this documentary? There is a lady that feels the same way as you, and regrets for the rest of her life, for not stopping her friend from killing himself.

  • @7RizaM agreed!

  • @ronsamy - That's a pretty bone headed comment. I should really just delete it, but I suppose its good to allow bone heads to embarrass themselves every so often.

  • Comment removed

  • @ronsamy - Well meant as it might have been, to simple drop in with a comment like that is still bone headed. But tell us Ronsamy, how did you come up with that conclusion about suicide being an eternity in hell? Is that something you know, something you've experienced, something you heard, an opinion, an airy fairy notion, or a religious belief?

  • I actually have a lot of respect for the man that stopped her. It makes me sick knowing that there are people who would have walked right by her. I think the fact that a random stranger went out of his way to save this woman is enough for her to live for.

  • @Madriley1 The people that walk past them arent as bad as you think.

It is incredibly hard to talk down suicidal people.

If you say one thing wrong it's game over

  • It's her right to want to jump but it's his right to stop her.

  • I think if she didn't want to be saved, she would've fought harder...

  • >I sat on her chest

    LIKE A BOSS!

  • @210482fmj its not suicide your saying police, fire men, marines, army men are trying to die. I dont know where your from but here in the united states soldiers fight for there country to protect what they love. Where ever your from is fucking twisted. USA USA USA

  • many people forget that joining the military is basically like suicide. you choose to end youre life by being shot or blow up. It's basically the same thing. Of course there will be so many who will not unerstand what i mean. you volunteer for death

  • what you need to remember is knowbody cares and they never do soemthing for another persons benefit. this person was pulled to safety not for her sake but to empower her captors more and just give them something more to manipulate. Im really learning fast about how human beings and they do everything for themselves not for others. there's not an ounce of care in any city. corporations are to blame for people being isolated due to a slave like society

  • @210482fmj The VA will refill your meds for you...

  • Comment removed

  • @flugtager then again maybe they won't

  • "i was waiting for her to jump" LIKE FUCK WHO WOULDN'T???? i would lol call me whatever you want but if she wanted to kill her self fuck let her do it one less human on the planet

  • @CLASHofTHElonders that is fucking heartless..

  • @hyperLydia yea say whatever but it would just help out our environment all humans do pollute we are the most waste full species on this earth.......we kinda suck

  • You people need to stop critizing him for saving someones life. Yes,I understand its her life and she can do what she wants but he probably made her think twice about jumping . I would have done the same .

  • bravo

  • Suicide; a permanent solution for a temporary problem.

  • @GreatYeazy

Unfortunately not all problems are temporary.

  • @GreatYeazy i don't think being lonely, depressed or miserable your entire life is a temporary problem.

  • @GreatYeazy Yeah yeah yeah we've all heard that before. What about permanent problems though? Why does that have to assume that all problems are temporary?

  • @GreatYeazy temporary?

  • @runtubefantasy either something happens once like they get dumped and do it mostly girls... or also you get bullied for years but nothing happens forever

  • thet man got a heart! its sad cuz some of us have not one

  • I am glad people are saying let people do it since it's there own life. Let them do it in there goddamn house then, and not out in public. I am glad the girl was pulled to safety. Her stupidity shouldn't be displayed in public.

  • @ColoradoKing26 u are an fucking idiot dude! -.-

  • @iamloaded92 For what? the truth?

  • @iamloaded92 why am i ?

  • I understand people being treated for their own safety when they are pulled after tempting a suicide attempt. The risk of doing it in public. And I believe that if someone decides to take that decision in public there is NO WAY that they not know, at least subconsciously that there is a change that someone will intervene.

  • the sad fact is, suicide is legal, but whats the reason to make it illegal? theres no point :/

  • @giddy123456 it's illegal in north america

  • @dontforgetyourlunch well wouldnt getting arrested cause the person to get even more depressed or something?

  • @giddy123456 the reason is for the people who try and fail. its basically the best way to make the law say they have to go get help. they won't spend time in jail or anything, just go to a place to get help. but yeah for the people who do succeed, it is a bit pointless.

  • You don't walk someone else's shoes so how dare do you judge them,if you aren't in their position stop being such a big name coward I bet you were never so low in your life to face this horrible crisis.

  • @trenchdaschunds......thats just terrible.....you should be ashamed. Everyone makes bad calls in life and to call her a sap and say that things would be better off without her is the most awful and shameful thing I've had the displeasure of reading on here. no offense, but you should have kept that to yourself.

  • Should have let her jump. At least there would be one less sap in the world; indeed, it would have made for a more entertaining clip.

  • "Richard Waters from Pittsburgh pulls the girls..." come on how is that relevant

  • Anyways, I have a question. Who the fuck exactly films all this?

  • That man is a hero.

  • Does anyone know how she is doing now, if she is even alive?

  • She was arrested for wanting to be in a better place? What the fuck is wrong with this world?

  • @ThePurpleFerp - She was detained for her own safety. I do not believe she would have been charged with anything.

  • @ThePurpleFerp wanting to be in a better place, are you fucking retarded? you must actually believe there is a santa claus in the sky that loves you after you kill yourself because you're an idiot.

  • @ThePurpleFerp most people who attempt or threaten suicide want to be saved. a study of hundreds of people who were stopped found out that 94% are alive or died of natural causes. depression distorts a persons reality and makes them feel like they will never be well again, which isn't true. so whats better, getting 5150'd and spending 2 days in the psych ward or a horrible death and lifetimes of grief and shame for people that love you? and btw how do you know death brings us to a better place?

  • @ThePurpleFerp I assume you believe in the afterlife? Then you should know that suicide isn't the answer, you don't go to a better place when you kill yourself.

  • @ThePurpleFerp wanting to be in a better place? what? hahaha. nobody knows what's after. complete ignorance!

  • @ThePurpleFerp a better place?what place?

  • @uninsomnia89 Africa

  • @ThePurpleFerp she wanted to go swimming to africa?

  • @uninsomnia89 Yuppers.

  • @ThePurpleFerp hahaha

  • @ThePurpleFerp she just goes to a place where she can get help and feel better.

  • @ThePurpleFerp dear there are laws not allowing you to suicide...don't ask me why.....but if you inxist on this tempt they'll close you in a mental hospital....these are the laws.....even if you look normal they'll always suppose you are anormal. suicide is considered to be out a humamind

  • @heavypizza

For her, anything was better than this world. Even nothingness.

  • @ThePurpleFerp That is one of the reasons why religion is stupid. Would she still consider suicide if she knew it was actually the end?

  • @ThePurpleFerp suicide is a crime, but obviously is not punishable. Im not sure what attempted suicide is. not a crime, how can they arrest her?

  • @shooshoodog why don't they just put up high fences

  • @ThePurpleFerp , a better place? dead? killed by herself? then going to hell ? thats not a better place hun .. if somebody doesnt have hoppe then why dont they just do new stuff ? they have nothing to lose .. try getting a job or something. theres always a way out. and if u never read the bible, when people suicide they dont go to heaven ..

  • @ThePurpleFerp "in a better place" what the fuck is WRONG WITH YOU

  • @onlybieberfan1 They put people under a 72 hour suicide watch, and then if they are still thought to be a danger to themselves they are checked into a psych ward or a mental hospital.

  • what gets me angry is that people know when someone is about to jump off a bridge but all they can do is watch them kill them selfs lke can't they do something to make them have second thoughts like really don't be an asshole

  • He just picks her up so easily haha

  • @walshy2kaii8 I'm sure some adrenalin helps with that, but yeah it's kinda funny.

  • Sometimes a person can make a huge difference in the lives of someone else.

  • I just want to hug that man who helped her, even if she was attention seeking, he still did the right thing in trying to do something. Most people would've just sat there.

  • Nice job! Is that the Ritchie Waters from Lincoln Place?

  • this film is so interesting, but sad. I recently lost a friend to suicide. thanks for posting this video.

  • Thank you, good man.

  • You sir....are a hero.

  • The Men Is Kevin Hines?

  • Who cares if she's faking it or not. She's putting her life in serious danger and could have just as well made the jump. Who wouldnt expect a reasonable person to take their time with such a serious choice?

  • ur a hero

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THE 1911 BUTTON?

  • @VolcomStoner94

It was an April Fool's day gimmick, it made all vids look like old recordings from the 1900's, all grainy.

  • @VolcomStoner94 Lol Yeah, what is it?

  • @Kilatypus that made no sense.

  • @VolcomStoner94 I want to know what the 1911 button is!

  • @Kilatypus Does it have somthing to do with a pistol?

  • the 1911 button makes everything funny.

  • WTG Richard, people from the Burgh care here thats why I love this city, and so glad you happen to be in SF at the time, I'm proud of you saving her life that day. Hope she got help and that she has continued to live on. I'm glad to see people step in, and that they really do care about others and willing to help in really bad situations! Bravo

  • Suicide is not the solution

  • @7RizaM - I know what you mean, and I am glad she didn't do it either. Or at least not then. However she made several attempts. She was attention seeking in so much as she chose a very very public place to stand for a long time on the edge of forever. I think its clear she wanted to be rescued, both right then and out of whatever awful situation her life was in. I for one am glad she sought the attention and got it. I only hope she managed to get some help and through whatever crisis she was in.

  • @justcallmesimon You're right. She probably wanted to be rescued, she probably wanted someone to care. to show her not everyone is bad or whatever she's used to.

  • @justcallmesimon I think that she felt that she needed to die and maybe deserved to die, not seeking attention, just help, she didn't want to die, but she didn't want her life even more. She was probably scared and thinking, but she was about to jump. I'm glad he grabbed her, she might have a better life, I hope she does. But my opinion aside, I think she wanted to jump, but just wasn't ready to, if I was that guy, I'd probably do the same thing.

  • that would suck if you commited sucide hoping for a better next life and ended up being born handicapped into a next life. always consider the possibility that suicide may just cause you to be born into a worse life. i doubt it makes any difference but i wonder if there is any kind of punishment for suicide. do you come back as a lower form of life if you commit suicide like

  • proud of what you done mate when it comes to the crunch most of us are real people who care about others . you saved a life and maybe this girl now lives a good life who knows ..

  • thats a good man i dunno wha i woulda dun

  • good man i dunno wha i woulda dun

  • i like how everbody is just standing beside her doing nothing to help her..........

  • @Maverick5588

Where's "everybody?" Its pretty much just the guy.

  • life behind the lens... it's like a whole other medium aside from reality.

  • this is inspiring and he was just all like "Yoink! grabbed me a perfectly good white girl that was almost thrown out" lololawesome

  • You don't die instantly if you hit.

You will break a WHOLE bunch of stuff and rip and tear stuff.

You will drown you won't die instantly.

Thats another reason why you shouldnt sucidide

  • @Ripulse. That's not really true. It takes between 4 to 7 seconds to hit the water at near terminal velocity from the Bridge. In that instance you die from massive blunt force trauma. Death is instantaneous in almost all cases. But yes, as I wrote in my blog suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

  • @justcallmesimon No, not true. Unless you know what happens after life you can't say it's a permanent solution. And you don't know that problems are temporary. Many problems last a lifetime.

  • @justcallmesimon Not to mention the 98% being fatal.

  • @Ripulse most of the time when ppl jump to their deaths they die before they hit the ground due to a massive heart attack

  • this gives me hope. the guy didn't have to pull her back to the deck. Most people would do nothing. Some would watch. This guy is a rare gem. he deserves a medal. Sadly, no one car\es that he saved her. he will do it again because he knows the right thing to do and does it.

  • The guy did the right thing. You have no time to rationalise in a moment like that. The fact that she was so much smaller than him obviously made his decision a little easier.

Hope she's ok now, and is thankful for what happened. She might not be here now if he hadn't been there.

  • so i just sat on her chest.

  • Poor girl. I wish I could give her a hug right now.

  • Pulled to safety? More like pulled from safety.

  • @CuriosityRoads i lol'd

  • "...Most folks think they'll hit, the surface and never, feel no pain. Water pulls you under, back to the womb, once again. Bodies float to the shore, floated birth, and blue. If sharks don't get you first, crabs will have their, way with you."

  • people have tried intervening to help a suicidal person before and they ended up dragging the person who tried to help them. the police advise do not get involved or put ur safety at risk. that person may just take you with them or think about it if they are mentally imbalanced. don't be a hero. i've seen what happens to heroes and its messy

  • Comment removed

  • @arainysundaymorning harry callahan in dirty harry takes the same attitude to that guy that is threatening to jump of the roof of a building. you gotta have more sense of humour

  • I hope this woman looks this guy up after she gets her shit together and they get shitfaced in some honky tonk bar.

  • @dogterd

    Amen, brother, amen.

    That's what I'd be doing.

  • I wish I knew that photographer. I hope he becomes very famous and successful. He is possibly the greatest human being I have ever seen on You Tube.

  • ur a hero. she doesnt know it but u helped her from a bad decision. dont regret what u did that day. NEVER BE THE WITNESS OF A SUICIDE JUMPER! EVER!

  • why is the camera set in perfect position yoyoyo

  • People wanting to jump are majorly unwell period.Yes I'd like to be there right now and jump, those who speak otherwise know nothing.

  • why didn't he just give her what she wanted, it was her decision...maybe her life was hell!

  • @cgvideo09: Almost all survivors of bridge jumps have regretted jumping the second after they did it. There's a very long fall down and it's hardly an instant death - it's in fact often also a very painful one. I can't think of any good reason to allow someone to jump of a bridge. It may be someone's "decision" in the spur of the moment to shot a cheating lover too but that hardly makes it ok. It's most often not the decision they'd make when thinking rationally either.

  • reinactment

  • @befranklintoo No it isn't

  • i wonder why he sat on her chest lol

  • @Justshutup14 Because if they cant get there chest off the ground, they aint going anywhere.

  • @Justshutup14 to fart on her maby x)
