RAGTOP LOUNGE circa 1994. Theme based event room in the Palladium Engine Room. So ahead of their time. Lounge featuring jazz disco funk old school and insane hosts. Probably the most original thing Chris Reda and Jo-IE ever came up with concept wise. Wonder if those guys KNOT FOR NUTHIN are still around. Last I heard they did Shampoo Room @ Limelight before heading out to LV to create a new pool party in 1997
Visually and design wise this was the Best Club in NYC EVER! Studio 54 couldn't touch this club, a step up for Ian and steve, the Michael Todd room , DJ Booth, connecting rest rooms with the Caves and Boiler room, The Balcony, Giant Video trons and House of Mirrors that would come down from the 60ft ceilings.

I guess they used the old parts to repair what they had working and they were repair by the lighting engineer (Martin) at the Palladium.
The moving lights were Vari*Lite VL1 fixtures run from the original VL1 console. I used to be a Vari-Lite engineer and now am the Head of Lighting for Cirque du Soleil.
I remember i took a yellow taxi from the Palladium to Queens and the darn guy didn't know how to get to Queens, It was like 1988 or something , he charged me $25, but the Palladium back then was cool in the mid to late 80s
great video. thanks for taking us back in time. last memories were listening to the good men from the center of the main floor and then saw the comment you made! also, seeing Siz(old friend) on some Flex nights. House Music there was more like a home...
Not yet and I didn't forget, I have an idea where it maybe...will let you know once I get the name, I'll try to post the track here on youtube as well.
If only they invented a time machine. Palladium would be my first stop. Do you know the artist and title to a song Charlie use to play often. I only know it use to go like: Slammer jammer to the funk, slammer jammer to the funk?
Use to go to CAN CUN with all the promoters, DJS, and MC Romeo...MISS ALL YOU guys. I think that whole murder thing with the club kids killed the whole scene.....Can anyone think of that song (need title and author) LOVE DANCING?
Wow this is GREAT!! What a big difference it was back then....Palladium, limelight, tilt, warsaw, nels, grand...Nothing like those days....The music, the crowd...Nothing will ever beat that. THe door people Aphrodite, Wass, Kenny Ken, kate Harwood....DJS Casanova, Keoki, Repete, Corbett, Boris, scribbles ...MC ROMEO...Bouncers MOE, and Chief.....all the old school promoters..Chi Chi, Mario, Artie, Matt, Jo-IE, Chris Reda,,,Its a shame this youngers will never know what was out there
I believe the Palladium was taken down abit after I left in 1995, unless I stand corrected. And no you won't find a club like the Palladium. But I think they are really nice ones in NYC. Just won't know which one.
I remember that track at 6:25 myself, but not the name or who did it. I could of sworn it was a Green Velvet track, but It's not. I would like to know what mix of "Get Lifted" that is. Sounds like the Armand Van Helden mix but more cut up and bangin!
i only went once around 1993 or 1994. it was the best club i ever went to. From Washington Dc. i remember the hot girls on the cages from the ceiling dancing. House music is right on. Laser light show was sweet from the upper deck seating.
Oh how I miss the palladium sooo much - always the best freestyle concerts by hot 103Safire, TKA, Sweet Sensation, loved it all!! remember the balcony seats - great place to chill and watch the folks dancing below-ahh the memories!!
Isn't funny when you walk by that old play you see a bunch of NYU kids walking in and out of that building?? I always think to myself.. DO they have any idea what used to go on in that place??? OHHHH the GOOD ol Days ... Limlite, NASA, USA.. The memories!!!
wow...Lots of memories I have from here. This was the place you'll find me at every Thursday nights back in the 80's and 90's for the Latin Nights.I became really good friends with some of the musicians I met here.NYC Palladium is the best night club the city ever had.Wish I can bring back those days.Nice music, beautiful sound and large dancing floor, the right place to meet friends. If I had the money I will make a new replica of that place.
Palladium was the shit back then! Loved going there on Saturday's from jersey...one of my friends spray-painted his sneakers black to get in! Awesome system, lights, like someone said, like stepping into another world! To think they tore it down to make an NYU dorm! fools! Romeo, Romeo was cool, ladies and dudes were cool, everyone just having the times of their lives! Wish I had a time machine!
'86-'90 Limelight 1st x I left a clb durning mrng dylght hrs (i thought it was around 4am before stepping outside, which i thought outside was a lit room)-didn't know it waz a church until now. Palladium 1st x & only I danced da soles off my cheap shoes. one of da best x's of my life club hopping n NYC
the best years of NYC nitelife; limelight (holy sh!t im dancing in a CHURCH!), tunnel (the original home of DT), palladium (arena!!!!! stadium seats babeee and the lit up wall), twilo (still the best sound system around...and the big ole discoball and all the asians sitting together!), vinyl (dark, dirty, no alcohol, tenaglia at his finest!), the original SF (junior on saturdays with all the queers...sick). what a scene it truly was!!!!!
This is hands down the best club I have ever stepped foot in. Nothing will ever compare to the amazing sound system, light show and vibe. Palladium you will be missed but never forgotten.
I remember that song when i was there in 94, 95, it slowed down and got faster and faster and the cage girls used to be gyrating around humping the cage floor to that song LOL
MAN!!!! best club in nyc history!!! was going from 1992 till i beleive 1996 ever saturday nite house dancing in the circle with TRAVIS, LOS, JER, DLOW, MAGIC, ELI.....and so much more!!!! peace ROB G....boogie down bronx!!!!
I remember when Charlie Casanova was workin' the techno scene at Paladium. Anyone remember the Michael Todd room at the back of the Paladium? Deep house and reggae. The best of both worlds!
Fucking disgrace they tore that place down. What the hell happened to NYC!!! We used to rule the scene. Now it's a big joke around the world. Palladium was like stepping into another planet. For those who were there, know what I'm talkin' about. This is when NYC was REAL!!!!!!!

Aww men, this is hot! The classic world famous Palladium Night Club! History was made here! Dude, the sound system was off the wall then. I had a few chances to go there. Good to see this video. Its a collectors item cause Palladium isn't around anymore. Good stuff!
I was in s.f. in the 90's but the music....amazing! Nothing like it. Wish I could have experienced N.Y.!:'( I love it there!!!

Wish I had a time machine!

the best years of NYC nitelife; limelight (holy sh!t im dancing in a CHURCH!), tunnel (the original home of DT), palladium (arena!!!!! stadium seats babeee and the lit up wall), twilo (still the best sound system around...and the big ole discoball and all the asians sitting together!), vinyl (dark, dirty, no alcohol, tenaglia at his finest!), the original SF (junior on saturdays with all the queers...sick). what a scene it truly was!!!!!

This is hands down the best club I have ever stepped foot in. Nothing will ever compare to the amazing sound system, light show and vibe. Palladium you will be missed but never forgotten.

Good stuff!
