I miss the old days in Cleveland too.....so much fun as a kid to watch this and have pizza and the late movie.. those times are gone. We only had 3 channels and no clicker..
The guy's name was Ron Sweed and man I remember him well. I would watch the Goul on Channel 61 out of Cleveland on my neighbors then "Alliance Tennarotor". There was no such thing as cable back then in the early 70's. Yes, the movies were corny. But, this was legendary entertainment in a time when children played outside ,a computer was a room full of machines and the word "internet" was not in our vocabulary..
Oh yeah miss those days! Kids today have no clue and the sad thing is they will never have a clue about the days past we all enjoyed. I do also wish those days would come back and that kids found enjoyment in that stuff we did.
This brings back memories of getting to stay up late on saturday nights with my dad, watching the b-movies with the ghoul. The inserted sound effects were the best! Rock On Ghoul!!! (and you too Froggy!)
Dont forget, this Saturday the 23rd. Our King and leader will be at the annual Halloween party at the Jefferson Yacht Club. a few tickets still available.
Frightening contemplations of youth. I grew up in Oakland CA and I still remember the magical summer i which his show was syndicated on KBHK channel 44 in San Francisco and we could enjoy both The Ghoul and Bob Wilkins. I thought he was hysterical the way he tore up Froggy. Of course, the sickest amongst us kids did this shit to our toys in real life but this in no way blunted the novelty of an adult doing this on television.
Now upon reflection and the Distance of Time I find the Ghoul Truly Frightening. Watch the Toolbox Murders and tell me you see any difference. He was certainly way ahead of his time in that sense. Too far ahea for channel 44 in any case I guess. I think the phone lights in the station are still permanently stuck in the 'lit' position after that time he tore Froggy's arms and legs off and squirted Cheez-Whizz up his ass..
I do love frog legs! We loved them before they were cool on the Travel Channel! Damn that bald headed jew!
Dislaimer:
We're only making fun of all creatures great and small, of all who have walked, swam, and begged the people for some hand outs, that includes the governments of the world too!
big chuck and hoolie were corny but the ghoul was cutting edge tacky funny like SNL in the early 70;s. Totally a memory of staying up late on friday nite to watch the ghoul blow some stuff up!
OMGosh~I so remember this clip. Poor Froggy, he always got the short end of the stick. For some reason, at age 44, I still find myself saying Frooogggyy (Frog-gee) hi ya,hi ya,hi ya...and my daughter is like...huh??? He was great~We didn't care what movie was on...we just wanted to see him!! This was a cool trip down memory lane~Thanks~

I would like to personally kick that guy's arse for doing that to poor Froggy. I hope that was a reproduction and not an original. I keep trying to find one in decent condition but they are VERY expensive not to mention few and far between. I'll plunk that guy's magic twanger and he'll think twice about trying to destroy my childhood hero. I was NOT amused. So there!
This is not only sick but a complete reversal of the true Froggy's nature. The real Froggy (on "Andy's Gang") was a deep-voiced wiseacre who always got the best of long-suffering, gravel-voiced Andy Devine.
In addition bustin' froggy's chops, didn't "The Ghoul" take out after Parma, Ohio, to the point where the mayor of Parma actually complained to the station????Great post.
Hey. If you are in the Detroit area, TV20 has a guy named Wolfman Mac on 12 midnight. That is Saturdays. The show is called Nighmare Sinema. Check him out on myspace. He has seen the ghoul, for shore. Has a character called Son of Froggy.
I met him sometime ago! He is cool too and he showed Psychomania! Like myself, WM grew with Sir Graves, The Ghoul, Son of Svengoolie and maybe someone else I left out!
The Ghoul set the bar. 30 years later he is still the gold standard. In Detroit in 2008 we suffer with a complete wipe, Wolfman Mac (what is that?) while longing for the Truth, our King, our Leader to be restored.
I'm from detroit, we loved the ghoul in the 70's. they test marketed the ghoul in about ten cities, only detroit really liked it besides ohio of course.
OMG.... First I find Houlihan and Big Chuck, then THE GHOUL AND FROGGY??? This is awesome! I watched both these shows growing up in the Akron-Cleveland area, and I love these memories! Thank you!
He fucked froggy up!
