Why are mare's so bitchy i swear! the mares i have could have cared less, we actually had taken in a 2 week year old foal and put him out with the other mom's and foals and they loved him!

actually foals know there mother from birth by both sight and smell..

its unlikely that the foal is confused as to which is his mum or not.

secondly, she/he just wants to play with the other foal or to cause trouble.

the other mare know's that and hence forth tries to drive the relentless little thing away. this is cyristal clear by the behavior
