It`s easy to focus on Micheal, he is phenomenal, but the rest of the band was pretty bad also, and Pete Way could lay down a bottom and look cool as hell doin` it. They were way under rated...
4th of July 1979, Day on the Green, Oakland CA, The Rockets, Nazareth, Thin Lizzy, J Giles, UFO & Journey. What a concert! When UFO played the opening notes of "love to love", I saw God!

Unappreciated only by those who are ignorant to their music. I'm glad they wer never 2 commercial to the mass music market. I'd rather keep them for myself. They bring back so many great memories. I feel the same about MSG too!
Schenker and Brian May have something in common, they hardly if ever use their pinkie playing a solo, maybe they know something we don't, maybe too much awesomeness will really make your face melt off.
@ wvClifton His thumb is not always hanging over the fretboard. Look at 1:55 Sure looks fine to me. And as for only using 3 fingers, yes he mostly does,as have alot of great guitar players,it has nothing to with how "good" or "bad" they are. Hell I read an article back in the day, Randy Rhoads commented on the best 3 finger guitar player he ever heard was the guy from Saxon who's name ecaspes me atm. And hell, MS has made millions playing, what about you?
@diosnake Saw them with Cheap Trick in Hammond, Indiana back in the winter of '77, the night before they were to headline the Stadium. They opened for Trick, but I think that was a probably part of a deal, as CT opened the next night for them at the MUCH larger venue. Yeah... Hammond Civic Center. With the basketball nets cranked up out of the way. Great show.
@matsellah I saw them summer of 77 Soldier Field Chicago THTH being the only song I recognized & Cherry. (radio play) No MS at that show it was PC ,I didn't know the difference anyway ,until buying Obsession just following,I was 12 and it was Zeppelin only..This concert kinda opened my closed little mind..I think it was Journey,M.Hatchett,Ufo What a great period in time that was. wow ! 34 years ago this coming August..Journey was Touring for the Infinity album turned out to be their best
@wvClifton Not sure why you are saying that. Doesn't sound you know much about technique my friend...MS does not only have the finest techniques, but he has tone, soul and all of the above. He is out of this world...in my opinion, he is one the BEST!
@mgsq64 He only uses three fingers and his thumb is always hanging over the other side of the fretboard. Not how I was taught. I'm saying if he didn't have those habits, he could be even better.
bought this album brand new....i remember tearin the plastic off...and wailin all night with some beers and good friends.....my favorite band...yeh, im old...haha
First concert I ever saw, Rush, UFO 1977 Swing Auditorium San Bernardino Ca. I was 17. It was the first day of the rest of my life. It blew my freekin' mind. Michael Schenker is the best. Funny thing is I shook his hand at another small venue in San Bernardino about 25 years later. It was pretty cool. I also shook hands with Eddie Van Halen at the US Festival and Tommy Shaw at an IN And Out Burger in Hollywood. All cool memories.
Man..you can just see Michaels intensity thru that hair....he dooesn't miss a note..tight and pro....even after probably 20 Lowenbraus...these guys were the shite in their day...Way,Mogg,Schenker,Raymond,etc....they could take anybody Live and often did!
Strangers in the Night is perhaps thee best live LP of all time. I cant even think of any that come close. Every single song on that double live LP is awesome.
@believer06 I agree, the only other live LP that comes close to this is Rainbow On Stage. RJD was the best live singer I've ever seen (7 shows) Michael S. is the best live show ever.....(12 shows)
bands today dont have as much raw talent as these guys! oh yeah what pro tools recording!! what awesome talent and great clean clear guitar solo live! with very little effect just add wah! this is pure hard rock....
Roodbro, I still have my 1976 marauder. Lancasterjr, it was Schenker playing the Marauder. There's no way to mistake Schenker. It may have been in 1978 when UFO were on tour with Molly Hatchet and REO Speedwagon.
also ...the reason you never see michael's face during live shows is that he has a bit of a phobia when it comes to large crowds so he covers his face with his hair so HE can't see YOU....
I saw them on this tour in Boston. They were a Phenomenon. Blackfoot backed them up. I remember that Micchael Schenker did not use his Flying V, but instead used a black Marauder. I bought one and own it to this day. Pete Way was the most physical bass player I've ever seen, running and jumping most of the time. I loved it. I think the way Schenker made his string ends all bent up is pretty creative too. The ones on his Marauder were straight, but uncut. Phil Mogg was one of the best singers.
Blackfoot opened for them in 1980 and schenker had already left the band - i think you saw paul chapman playing for them - i don't think schenker used anything but, a flying v
Schenker played a Marauder? Oh this is so creepy. I had a Marauder. i had gotten rid of it and picked up a 69 Flying V back in 1982.
Schenker probably borrowed it from either Blackfoot or a local shop. Likely, cuz it was one of the times he busted his V. The things been broke a # of times and put back together. If you see some early MSG pics, you may come across a shot where you can see a steel plate behind the headstock holding it together.
Awesome classic rock band! Yes, the UFO history dvd this comes from has some great footage of these guys, along with other line up changes. My favorite has always been with Michael Schenker!
I saw them in '79 (no Schenker) with AC/DC opening at the Capital Center in Largo, Md. for $4.00 with free parking...I still have my ticket stub and the review from the next days Washington Post...they must have sent a strictly Classical music buff because the free parking was about the only nice thing he said...he didn't get AC/DC at all and it was probably only Love to Love that even got him to stop sulking and take any kind of notice. It was an amazing show even without Michael...
I can beat that! I saw them on a club tour in England in 1974! My mate said "they've got this song called Rock Bottom, wait 'til you here that!'" He was right.

Maybe Im the only one but is anyone esle not trilled with the re release of "strangers" and the new more accurate play list song order..i say, keep it the same....I love the orignal opening song
Michael Schenker has the greatest ability to take a simple melodic chord pattern in so many tunes and embellish it even further with a signature solo that withstands the test of time. One of my all time favorite guitar pickers!!
Where do people find these videos??? A welcome blast from the past, Schenker at his prime, and I agree, there is no greater live album than "Strangers In The Night!"
Maybe not alcohol, but he controls those Gibson Flying V's, doesn't he? Great feel! (Although most disagree, I think Yngwie also has great feel. I HATE when people automatically equate speed with lack-of-feel). I heard Schenker liked early Leslie West a lot, so that could explain his bitchin' Tone & Vibrato! Peace!
