even though i class myself has 100% rockabilly .when these guys came out in the eighties ,they were exciting you could not help but get on the dance floor ,and get a few teeth loosened by fellow crazies, they were a one off great band ,who had the right blend off rockabilly/punk influence .they will never be bettered they are PSYCHOBILLY .
i dont think its because im now 45 but phycobilly in the early eighties still had a raw rockabilly sound and today it sounds over done.i dont know i cant put my finger on it but lacks the link to rockerbilly.dare i say it but lana del ray is closer than some of the new bands
I agree with you Doyster, totally!. I was only a kid in the 80's, but I grew up around Feltham, the Psychobilly thing was going on. I was always intrigued by these guys with that psychostyle. I'm so fucked off I couldnt enjoy it in its prime!. weird twist of fate though, Mick White (bass on Wrecking Crew) is now one of my managers at work!. So I get to hear all about it & never get bored!!! OTMAPP!!!
there is lot confusion about what is psychobilly & what is not the modern scene is a bit commercial & pop sounding the old scene avoided that & thats what people liked about it for me the old scene is better but times move on, it will prob suffer same fate as commercial rockabilly which brought about psychobilly the METEORS saved the scene & brethed life back in 2 it. long live psycho.
i agree with alot of whats been said here already, i reckon psycho was taking a dive by the mid 80s,(electaglide in blue anyone?)but for me it was all about the gigs.you couldnt beat a bit of wreckin with your mates. The stuff around today may be called psychobilly but its just a name, todays bands use a double bass but they make it sound like shit.Ever had a 17yrold lecture you on what psycho was/is using wiki as a ref? i have, felt like a kickin was needed to "correct" him, must be gettin old
im sure all the original [crazies] from the early eighties hold their beliefs and it is irritating when kids take your music for their own but i have to say that modern phycobilly bears no resemblance to its rockabilly roots and its b movie culture maybe im just getting old but i followed the meteors everywhere in the eighties and it will never be the same again
were just getting old mate saw them all over the country back then , still go now and again the first two albums are classics ,Fenech will alway claim that what ever the line up is at the time is the best, but thats flannel, for me it was over by 84 they are still worth a look in 2008 but the crowd, the electricity, is a shadow of its former self it was mental at their gigs back then ,the Glasgow recording of live 1 was amazing, London gigs always blinding ,Blue sunshine baby R.I.P Dawn
You re so damn right, doyster.I saw them several times here in Germany,i wore their band name on my jackets, t-shirts and schoolbags.Yeah ,fuck ,we re getting old
but no one can take the memories of those true wreckin days away from us!What followed, was fucking warmed up rehash trash.
That's called "nostalgia". It's not necessarily that bands were better, it's just that our perception changed over the years. We've seen it all before. Most people who started as teenagers will tell you that the excitement, energy etc. isn't the same anymore - but it's just that we've gotten used to all that. Go to psycho festivals outside Europe and you'll know what I mean. In Brazil, everybody went absolutely crazy when they saw The Meteors, Flintstones etc. for the first time!
well i think the meteors are a fuckin important of psychobilly and the originaters, but babe everyone got their opinion he thinks that , as well i fuckin love demented are go but still like the meteors , i mean why do a figth between that bands?
But shit man you might as well ransack a church with what are considered sacrilegious words coz you know and all your pillow mun chin mates ONLY THE METEORS ARE PURE PSYCHOBILLY
