It would be nice to create 3D images by hand gestures and voice commands. If I move my hand in the air in a very certain way, a planar should be drawn on the screen. In this way, I could literally sculpt a product in the air from hand gestures - - sort of like "air drawing." And in my case, I could sculpt a totally new type of ice-skate and bring the concept to market via a detailed 3d model that I could present to manufacturers or investors.
What the hell this isnt necessary whats necessary is to get everyone in the world to be at todays progress not to increase this technology shit while children in africa are starving.
How come 2009 it's been three years and we haven't seen those chatting transparent stuff and that phone the man used doesn't have a cover and theres so much holograms plus how did that document went out of THAT SCREEN WITH JUST SLIDING IT OUT
@natashaoon Thanks for your feedback. This series of 'Future Vision' videos contains ideas we have been brainstorming for years, but development for ideas as advanced as these can take quite a while. Although we cannot promise every idea you see in these videos will come to fruition, we are confident you will excited by some products we currently have in development. Thanks for your patience! In the meantime, please feel free to share your own ideas for the future with us!
Please make a technology wich can stop the angry world leaders from fighting with each other and let them peace up like its suposed to be, when the whole world can work together the technology will grow very much faster as now for what i believe.
@FlareDemonReborn The technology is already happening - have a look for the Samsung Smart Window on Youtube. It's essentially very similar to the technology they feature in this video. It's only a matter of time before you see the other technological advancements :D
@officevideos I'd like to see better battery life, for one :P Plugging in my smart phone every night is kind of annoying! haha...other than that, probably better integration with security technology to keep the streets safer at night. Technology is all well and good, but if someone mugs you and steals your technology then it's kind of useless!
@vastblue Awesome ideas! Thanks for sharing :) Safety is definitely an area we see a bright future for techology to improve on, so we're glad you mentioned that.
@cypri0t Thanks for your feedback! There are a lot of ways we see technology helping us be more productive in the future, and often times it is the most complex technology that allows us to live simply. We want to hear your own ideas for future technology - feel free to share!
This would had been 10 times more impressive if I hadn't just finished reading "Rainbows End" (by Vernor Vinge). Some of the ideas in the book are the next generation of the ideas presented in this video.
Watched this with my brother, he's three years old. He loved girl who made the drawing for her mother, and how the cloud was active all the time. He loved it so much, that he went out the kitchen, grabbed a pencil and began to draw on our windows.
Thank you Microsoft, you just made he's day! Keep it up :)
@ClausSanta7 Thanks for your feedback! This comment just made our day :) We're glad to hear he's getting an early start on brainstorming the possibilties of technology in the future. Be sure to share any of his ideas with us here!
Many times if i ask regular someone how will the future look like with the technology ?, they always say that they believe that the world will end ... and thats discusting to hear.
@dirtykeskin We prefer to be optimistic - we see a bright and active future full of possibility! What are some ideas you have on what technology can help us achieve in the future?
I always dream about videogames where you need to move physical, like playing Call Of Duty, Standing on a kind of a machiene with full 3d glasses or something like that, and that you can do all kinda moves like running, jumping, ducking, laying for real wich will also be a nice sport next to gaming, if this technology had exist already i would have a much better body now haha. And mind reading screens in place of touchscreens would be very usefull. i think im out of questions
@Bigdaman15 The ideas in this video are definitely futuristic! It's remarkable how technology developments have taken off. What does your own vision for the future look like?
I saw a news special on this video, and nearly everything in the video is existing and operational in various Microsoft labs, but still needs considerable development and refinement prior to mass market release. It's likely we'll easily see quite a bit of this within 5 years.
@mikefly562 Thanks for your comment - we do have some incredible products in development that we wanted this video to get you excited about. What advancements are you most looking forward to seeing?
@WesleySparkes We wanted to go "all-out" with this video to really express the potential we see for technology in the future. These are all ideas we had fun toying around with and wanted to share! :) What are some of your ideas for how technology can help us?
@officevideos There are some very good ideas however I just think that these ideas will increase the gap between rich and the poor, some people in the world don’t have a TV let alone food and water and you’re proposing to have this technology which tells me where my seat is on a plane. If I was to give you an idea it would be something like interactive wallpaper. Not my job though. I'm just saying that we we need to get today's problems sorted before we look at the future problems.
@techdron We hope so! We see a bright future ahead for technology, in terms of making us more productive and creative beings. How do you see technology helping us in the future?
@officevideos Actually, some of these technologies you present in the video above already exist which is a great start. For instance, working on transparent glass screens was recently showcased at the Microsoft keynote at Computex 2011. Moreover, the fold-able screens are already taking shape with Samsung's folding OLED. The technology needed to present this concept is slowly becoming available. It's just a matter of time when we, regular consumers, can get our hands on it.
From what I could derive from this video, it seems like Microsoft would need the collaboration of practically every major industrial company for these features to exist in the future.
@saidasma Thanks for your response. Videos like this allow for a discussion on where MS believes technology is going and the key scenarios technology will impact. We're not predicting the future, and we're don't have all the details all thought out. We want to show a diversity of scenarios in which people will using technology in the future.

@francisabarca These are some of the ideas we have, but we’d like to hear your ideas so we can be sure Microsoft creates software that will be useful to our users - just like your family.
I guess I have to add to my I.T. resume carpentry and glass installation. Oh.. and maid. I will have to carry a bottle of windex everywhere to troubleshoot.
well microsoft, how about you come up with something as simple and useful as the iPad first before you design all these elaborate technologies that probably won't be affordable in 5 - 10 years' time.
@concubinage Thanks for your response. We’re exploring experiences that may be the future. There is an undeniable trend in prices (example: flat screen technology). But, we cannot predict prices. Videos like this allow for a discussion on where we believe technology is going and the key scenarios technology will impact.
Apple's Siri is going to eliminate the need for most of this UI design and interface. We will def not see a lot of these ideas come to fruit. Why dig through menus and turn digital dials on a touchscreen when we can ask Siri to do it?
@312ChiBoi when i work, i usually don't want to talk over a bunch of other people trying to talk over everyone else so siri can listen to what i have to say. i don't like thinking out loud all the time. just saying.
Lost me straight away with the dog. Unless the dog was animated already to chase "user generated object" you're not going to have realistic self animating objects,.. it's just not how things are done, unless you're drawing on top of animated bones. The concept just comes across badly, so frustrating to watch as it makes it easy to pick unrealistic faults in all the other ideas, regardless of the realism of the hardware, the software shown is clearly unrealistic to use.
Am I the only one that can't see a lot of this happening? Some of it sure, but just look at these kinda videos of how it will be now and 10 years ago. Also I want my damn auto tying nikes!
@haigh152 Thanks for your feedback. We have high hopes for where technology can (and will) go within the next 5-10 years, but of course we can't predict the future. We definitely see great opportunities, though! As for auto-tying Nikes, well, that's on our wish list too :)
@123cornetin I'm serious though, there are some people capable of funding this kind of technology, only to find ways to capitalize on it so only a few can have this kind of experience, or so that everyone has to pay outta pocket for it. Bill Gates & Steve Jobs both are responsible for the graphic user interface, and subsequently the kind of technology we have today. Steve, who had the creative mind and heart for this sort of thing, is gone. Now we have to trust in Bill Gates.
@331319 Steve and Bill were only the big names for the companies that really made these differences. Inside these companies are the people who grind it out everyday and really come up with these ideas. Steve had more to do with the process than Bill but still there are many many inventive people that can work toward getting this done.
Love the harry potter news paper, would save on normal paper, should do that first instead of Siri imo. Features like transferring info by just a swipe from one device to another should be used now on the iPhone if possible too
Cool. Those fancy displays are cluttered and cumbersome. Also, ubiquitous displays mean ubiquitous advertisements. That fridge would have 40 paid sponsorships on it.
I don't want to use my hands though. Give me a terminal and a thought-to-text interface and I'm all good.
Oh guys btw the two classrooms are austrailian and indian that is why they are awake at the same time. Also to all you haters and disbelievers out there, this will happen within a decade. Trust me. Just look at the last ten years in technology.
Seriously, dragging on walls gets incredibly annoying after a while. It's shit like this that skype tries to do already and it's really bad. Why is it that designers seem to have some major malfunction in their brains?
The only thing that really looked useful was the phone.
Explain me how could you program a computer to recognise a drawing and animating it all by itself, then recognising a "ball" and then animating the dog acording to this "ball" just impossible without programing anything regarding the dog (where are the legs, articulations, weight of the object for physics matter (...) )
Microsoft spends so much money for that, they're ridiculous XD
At least in terms of the 2D interface graphics there is nothing here that modern day hardware couldn't produce which is really something. I am very skeptical of the over the top input solutions though, that is usually where these concepts fall down. All flashy but not realistic relative to what would be good for end users.
It would be great to do this with a bunch of poor people, with bad teeth and no health-care and no jobs ... some guy, laying on cardboard boxes, sorting thru free-clinics, food-banks, liquor stores and swiping the chip on his right hand, so he can purchase a lotto ticket. Some latino kid, in the back of a pickup-truck, using this tech to find work picking lettuce. College educated govenment workers, like homeland security and CSI specialists? ... sure ... THEM.
I wonder what percentage of the world's population will have access to this lifestyle, and what countries they will live in ? ... What percent of US citizens will enjoy this lifestyle ? This lifestyle also seems VERY fragile and dependent, to me ... One solar-flare ... One protracted power outage ... One major optical trunk, severd ... One major earthquake ... One major hurricane ... Where will these tech zombies be, then ? ... Helpless and frantic.
hope to see this, WITH the abandonment of fossilic fuels and energy sources, governments not just lying and stealing every coin you earn, a kind of economical structure that doesn't exploit 95% of the worlds workforce and 100% of all the resources, a pacifistic attitude from governments with much more power than others, complete disarmament, equal social care, more reasonate approach toward what we now consider deviancies and anti-social behaviour...
hmm I say in about 5 years we will have mobile phones thinner than 3mm currently the thinnest is 9mm. In 10 years holographic/laser projection technology will be implemented into mobile devices. In 15 years mobiles will be transparent. In 20 years all the crap in the video will happen, except for the plants and protecting nature shit, that aint happening, we will end up killing everything except ourselves.
This technologies will be used to observate and control people. Companies and governments will know where we are (or were) and what we are buying. Since therw will be no paper money or coins anymore, people who attempt to fight the system will just have their cards canceled, and will be unable to buy anything...
But it seems people are seduces by the appearence of those technologies, instead of considering their social uses...
those stuff can be done right now but we are as humans lazy and we don't put all our resources in achieving our dreams!
why we still not having our electronic personal doctor yet? that should be the first thing technology do for us! not building a satellite that can bomb the earth
@kolchiMlih You don't want an electronic personal doctor. If you look up any possible ailment on the internet, you'll be convinced you have terminal cancer.
I hope this is what happens in the future, it would be so great the simplicity of connecting and communicating both with others and devices, but I don't think Microsoft would be able to accomplish this themselves they would have to collaborate with others such as Apple and the open source community.
@manco82 Apple doesn't have to be involved what I was trying to say was that Microsoft could use the help from Apple and the open source community to build and design the software, as each one of them have different strengths and weaknesses. Also open source developers are not thieves as they create great software for nothing!!
I love 720p so much.

SmexyBeastChannel 4 months ago 2
In 30 years, this will be outdated.
KleptomaniaKat 4 months ago
This technologies will be used to observate and control people. Companies and governments will know where we are (or were) and what we are buying. Since therw will be no paper money or coins anymore, people who attempt to fight the system will just have their cards canceled, and will be unable to buy anything...
But it seems people are seduces by the appearence of those technologies, instead of considering their social uses...

those stuff can be done right now but we are as humans lazy and we don't put all our resources in achieving our dreams!
why we still not having our electronic personal doctor yet? that should be the first thing technology do for us! not building a satellite that can bomb the earth
kolchiMlih 4 months ago
@kolchiMlih You don't want an electronic personal doctor. If you look up any possible ailment on the internet, you'll be convinced you have terminal cancer.

I hope this is what happens in the future, it would be so great the simplicity of connecting and communicating both with others and devices, but I don't think Microsoft would be able to accomplish this themselves they would have to collaborate with others such as Apple and the open source community.
empireJJ 4 months ago
@empireJJ Oh please explain to me why Apple just HAS to be involved, much less the open source thieves?
manco82 4 months ago
@manco82 Apple doesn't have to be involved what I was trying to say was that Microsoft could use the help from Apple and the open source community to build and design the software, as each one of them have different strengths and weaknesses. Also open source developers are not thieves as they create great software for nothing!!
