As strange and inappropriate as it may be, I first heard this at the end of the film 'Knowing' as the world is about to end, to be engulfed in the sun's expanding solar flare. Rather fitting I find and it certainly works very well. Beautiful piece.
LOVE THIS SONG ESPECIALLY KNOWING THAT THE GREAT BEETHOVEN WAS A BLACK GERMAN! Even blind he was unbreakable,They could never break the power of the "Original man" then ,now or ever!!! Peace :)
I think it's no coincidence it was used in "Knowing". I sense the bottom line in this piece is the musical equivalent of full enlightenment, and I feel utterly powerless.
... and i feel like i'm the only one in my country who listens to divine music like this. at my school, it's like "who's beethoven?" WHO'S BEETHOVEN!!!!!!!!!! of with their heads i say! komaan, Belgen, laat jullie stem horen als je van echte muziek houdt!
@Briancmwilliams well don't think i'm a god fearing man now, i'm just trying to give a word picturing how good i find this music. can't see a nuclear war though...
Greatest piece of music ever written. Nothing else compares to the mood that Beethoven captured while writing this. I especially liked the usage of this in Jerome Bixby's movie "The Man From Earth".
@th415263 you can hear sounds in your head when you imagine them, try it : )
nothing could stop beethoven's love and message, that is why he could compose when he was deaf, he had a message, a present, for others, to give, he had to finish his great work!

this piece of music is amazing... cant believe knowing would have the balls to use it since it one of the worst films i have seen in years.. nic cage must have something wrong with him after reading the script and agree to be in the movie, its not as if he's doin it for the money anymore.. sine he doesnt need it
you guys keep saying knowing, but the fall used this piece first, and knowing was a big piece of useless shit. i feel dumber having watched it. nic cage should be put to death, horrible actor, just fucking garbage
THE FALL! That's the one! I just finished watching Knowing, and they used this piece. I was like where else have I heard this...where, where, where...
i'll take you up on that if you can answer me this question.. why is it if you kill a man in battle its called heroic, but if you kill a man in the heat of passion its called murder? if you can give me an honest well thought out answer and not some smart ass remark i will seek help. i'm a man of my word
That is society defending itself. If it favors battle will be protected by its soldiers. If it condemns passion crimes, will be more difficult to die in an unexpected moment
@elias12186 I always pictured this piece as the first song he wrote after he found out he was never going to regain his hearing. He wrote it around that time so it very well might be.
oustanding interpretation of this famous movement..i like how in the second variation of the opening theme..he doesnt drown out the main motif with the cello accompaniment..it drives me crazy when conductors do this and destroys the beauty of the piece

@The1Face2Face um... Beethoven was not black and never blind...
IZachDallen 3 months ago
Is there a reason why the music sounds a bit lower than normal? (The A in the recording seems to be between G-sharp and A.)
CloudySunrise 7 months ago
@CloudySunrise It's just low tuned. But the A is still distinctly an A.

beethoven wants to tell you something in his music, it's your job to find out

Life is like this: tragically dark in spots, emerging into places of poignant beauty. This work embodies that for me.

I love how its dark and bright at the same time. A paradox.

this 2nd movement of symphony no. 7 reminds me of the end of the world movies. it's a great one.

@plagueofangels666 I wouldn't really call this divine music.
It's definitely good, but I picture thermonuclear war and generally nasty shit when listening to something so slow and morose as op 92.

This is great Beethoven. I still like Gardiner's tempos better, but this is beautiful playing.

Ah... so sweetly sublime: between lively towering walls of sound, and a somewhat somber ostinato, a true pleasure to listen to.

And of course it also reminds me of the fall during the end wich was a bit sad.
