  • Back when Trilogy came out it was like the greatest thing ever. Years later, I noticed that it was INSANELY broken. They should of spent less time adding in pointless characters like MK1 Raiden & Kano and MK2 Jax & Kung Lao and spent more time balancing the game. I find this game to be unplayable cause of how broken it is and yet, when I play an arcade MK, I think to myself "I really want to play as Noob Saibot or Rain or Goro" etc. I want to love this game but I just can't, which really sucks:(

  • I used to think this game was the best fighting game ever. Then I grew up and realised that it was totally broken. But at the age of ten, such things didn't really matter to me, so I still cherish it to some degree for nostalgic reasons. Thanks for putting up these comparison videos, by the way! Keep up the good work!

  • Never get a disc version of the old mortal kombat games. The loading times ruin them.

  • Just amazing. Thank you so much therealbluedragon

  • @therealbluedragon Mugen is great, dont offend it.I played MK1,MK2,MK3,UMK3 and UMKT and MKT and MK shaolin monks,MK4 and deception..And also Mk9.so......You dont know what the hell are you talking about! All of these are great games, maybe MK3,4 and Deception are bad,but that doesnt mean MKT is bad.I mean did you even play that game? The game is awesome! So shut up!ANd the best 2d mk game is MK9!

  • @noobsaibot325255 Kid... you make me lol.

  • PC version smokes all of them. Best parts of the N64 version and the best parts of the CD based versions all in one.

  • I'm having a hard time tracking down a complete Saturn version, they're $100+ online.

  • I love how they didn't add the n64 one. the controls on that system for fighting games sucked.

  • The screen seems to be a little shorter in the playstation version..., the sega saturn games usually have a bigger resolution or just this one?

  • Never knew trilogy made it to the saturn

  • Nintendo 64 version lol, no load times

  • @MrCalvin7892 Yes, In that case cartrige is better than disk.

  • @MrCalvin7892 N64 version is pathetic, like the N64 itself. :)

  • @TheRealDanielGlior how is the N64 version pathetic...I at least stated a reason why I thought the MK Trilogy version for it was better than the PS1 and Saturn, never said the systems sucked...

  • @MrCalvin7892 But it IS! That's not me being bias towards the port (but defo the console)! If you believe the N64 version is better than the CD ones than you are a fool that should go and compare!

  • @TheRealDanielGlior I have compared the different ports, and the differences are fairly miniscule...it's definatelly not worth calling myself a fool for favoring the N64 version or in fact just enjoying the N64 itself

  • @TheRealDanielGlior Blocked!

  • Just wanted to say this is a great series youre doing here on Youtube.

  • hey is there any way to play N64 games on a modded ps2, like copying the N64 games to a disc then running it on a ps2? i want to play MK Trilogy (N64 version) on the ps2! but for the comparison of psx/segasaturn versions of trilogy, they are basically the same! but why the hell did they make MK3:ultimate for sega saturn and not psx? i mean hey come on?

  • @mukaikof Why would you want to play the N64 version of Trilogy on a PS2? That's the worst version of an already bad game, plus you want to play it using an over the top method when you could just use a perfectly good N64 or emu to do the job.

Pain + more pain + overcomplexity = total waste of time & effort.

I'm going to chew on a razor blade but that's not quite bad enough so i'll poke myself in the eye at the same time, & to top it all off i'll do it riding a unicycle.

    ...no offence.

  • @therealbluedragon well i have MK trilogy for psx, but i also liked the N64 version of MK trilogy, especially the pit level from MK2. it looked good!

  • @therealbluedragon mortal kombat trilogy, a bad game? lol, its better than umk3, umk3 is so overrated, MKT is waaay better the PC version is

  • @Blitzwing989 Troll? How old are you kid, 14? 15? Every single person who played MK games seriously during the 90's will tell you you're a fool. MKT is a broken & unbalanced mess of a game that wasn't even made by the Mortal Kombat team. It's only purpose was to serve as a stop-gap between the releases of UMK3 & MK4. If you honestly think this is the best 2D MK game then you probably like Mugen too.

You are wrong, end of conversation.

  • @mukaikof You'd be wayyyy better off downloading the rom and emulator online, which work pretty flawlessly, and using a 360/ps3 controller

  • As a Mortal Kombat fan I got the Saturn for UMK3. Geez I was gutted when the better MKT came out on PSX instead. But then it would finally come out on SAT. But I still can't find a copy anywhere.

  • @stufaman I own a copy for the ps1 and sega saturn,I paid for both those games 10 dollars a piece.

  • @burzumaske20 Dollars? Ah, the Saturn did a little better over in the US. In the UK, Saturn got phased out much quicker 'sigh'.

  • @stufaman You're not missing much, its a exact same port.Colors, pixels, ect all the same, just comes down to which console you own really.Depends where you go for the saturn copy, cause it can be pretty pricey, its more common to find the ps1 port at a retro game store at least. To me if you want to do good comparisons, try mortal kombat 2,since that was released on every single console.Amiga,ps1,saturn,genesis,pc,ps3,snes,gamegear,gameboy,sega master, also can't forget the arcade collection 2011

  • @burzumaske20 I ended up with loads of versions of MK2. I was very impressed with the SNES and gameboy versions.

  • @stufaman i think its rare! its better to get MK trilogy on psx, since its the same port. but whats crazy is they made UMK3 and trilogy for Saturn, but they didnt even make UMK3 for psx! they just made MK2,Mk3 and MK trilogy for psX. i wish they did make UMK3 for psx, so i could have it as a collection!

  • @mukaikof I got it since for PS1. But it will never cure the bitter feeling of being a denied Saturn owner all those years ago. MKT really got hammered for being a cheap game. but any version by me is great fun.

  • 2:36 playstation version LOL!!! and WTF???'

  • @NostalgiaMadPspmad Holy shit, you're mad that I pointed out the fact that you're brown-nosing, little clitdick. Your poor attitude is making me want to cream in your mother's hairy cunt.

  • @NostalgiaMadPspmad Wow, aren't you a corny, little, brown-nosing fuck.

  • so where were transparency effects used in this game?, uploader please dont answer with your smart ass comments I do understand the English language thank you. Can anybody else please tell me?

  • Saturn version lacks transparencies?, what are transparencies?.

  • @Carbon657 "Trans·par·ent [trans-pair-uhnt, -par-] (adjective)

Definition: Having the property of transmitting rays of light through its substance so that bodies situated beyond or behind can be distinctly seen."

  • @therealbluedragon yes well done you must be so proud

  • if only the saturn version was easier to come by, despite lack of transparencies i feel its the better port overall though not by much.

  • almot identical

  • bernie stolar = sony's gain =sega's loss

five star game policy need i say more

  • Man I like your comparisons but I feel urked after watching because it's not a full comparison ever. May I suggest for a much better comparison, at least try to match as much as you can like the stages, moves, areas explored to each version of the game so we can see the real comparison. Like in Soviet Strike the Copters explored totally different areas mostly and here your not fighting on the same stages. And on the Fighting games, you should have compared the same super moves back to back.

  • @msecool This is a side hobby that I engage in for one to two hours a week. If this was a professional pursuit (i.e. my job) then maybe I would take the time and care to make sure the videos were consistent the whole way through.

MKT randomises the order of the fighters & backgrounds so I could have played that game for days & still not of had the correct combinations. Also I suck at MK & pulling off fatalities so count yourself lucky there were any in that video at all.

  • @therealbluedragon Well your stuff is cool you it would be cool if you went all out. But if your too busy I understand. I'm sure we'll take what we can get. I don't see any more battle of the port type stuff except for new game comparisons so you are the coolest for doing this. Tell me, how are you doing it? What programs and camera? I'd like to do some psp vs PS2 and some Wii vs PS2 I've got the doubled games just need the set up you got. I'd also like to do some DS vs n64. Thanks pally.

  • @msecool Just a regular USB video capture device though some of the older BoP videos were recorded from emulators which no longer happens. Most of my editing is done with Pinnacle Studio 12

  • @msecool true men

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • The Saturn was technologically more capable than the PS1 when it came to 2D games....the Saturn was supposed to be better here but it isn't

  • @modewr i think the real reason why SEGA failed at making game consoles, was because they made too many different systems, genesis,saturn,CD,gamegear,32x,Mega drive and thats like forcing the consumers to buy every single system just to play different games since they didnt make all the games for one system like they did with PSX. overall the PSX had pretty much every single game on it especially games that they made at the sametime for SNES were on psx.

  • looks the same

  • The Saturn version is slower than the PS version. Which one has the better graphics though?

  • @modewr Both games run at the same speed & the Saturn port was made using the PS1 assets (sprites, backgrounds, sound files etc.) so they are IDENTICAL with the exception of transparencies & resolution.

  • @therealbluedragon : Thank you for the answer!

  • Mortal Kombat Trilogy's a pretty cool game.

Some of my favorite fights to do in that game (if 1 of the characters is a CPU on the column I choose, seeing as how I always play by myself) are....

    -Kintaro vs Goro

    -Goro vs Noob Saibot

    -Goro vs Motaro

    -Kintaro vs Motaro

I remember when I got the PS version of MKT when I was 13. I was surprised to see that Goro, Kintaro, Motaro and Shao Kahn were automatically playable from the get go.

Better than any previous ones where you needed a code(s).

  • @Nicksolo85 Trilogy is great fun for a mess around but in terms of build quality & character balance it's a joke.

  • @therealbluedragon 1 thing that sucks is that the PlayStation version of the game isn't 100% compatible with the PlayStation 2 if you know what I mean.

  • @Nicksolo85 I not sure that I do, I captured all my footage from a PS2 without issue.

  • @therealbluedragon well, if you turn off the Buy-in Screen (where you would press Start to continue), the game freezes up after the match is over.

After you either finish 8 Player Kombat or kill Shao Kahn in 1 player mode, normally you would be presented with a screen where you would be asked to select 1 of Shao Kahn's treasures.

On the PS2, the screen just turns black and all you hear is the prologue/Main Menu screen/Character Bios music.

  • @therealbluedragon An original PS2 or the slim one? I concur though, the said problems of MKT running on an original PS2 haven't occurred for me, although mine is an aqua blue original PS2, I dunno if that has anything to do with it.

  • The character sprites in the PlayStation version are +/- 10 % smaller compared to their Saturn equivalents.

Also, I remember MK Trilogy driving the CD-ROM drive crazy. I could actually hear it shuffle through the CD in search of one particular file. Eventually, I gave up playing MKT on my PSX. This console obviously wasn't cut out for 2D gaming.

  • @Majki182 The sprites are exactly the same size, the Saturn version outputs at a slightly lower resolution so they just appear bigger. And yes the PS1 was never intended for playing 2D games. For a while Sony even stopped developers from creating/porting anything 2D, then they quickly realised how stupid that was & lifted the ban. Many of the most popular games of the time were all 2D: Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Myst, worms & C&C to name a few. It would have been very silly of Sony indeed.

  • @therealbluedragon You can thank Bernie Stoler for that stupid "no 2D games" rule. He thought that 2D games would not represent the future for videogames. I think Sony Computer Entertainment lifted the ban as soon as they fired Stoler.

  • looks identical... well i would personally get the Saturn version (because i was never a fan of PSX)

  • Can you upload MK Trilogy Saturn Shang Tsung Master II please?

    Thanks.

    voodoihippo

  • The Saturn version looks and sounds better

  • @StudioGuyMN Do lifebars also like UMK3 Arcade version?

  • @StudioGuyMN I would have to disagree there, as much as it pains me.

  • @therealbluedragon Sprites are bigger in the Sat version. Moreover the Sat version loads faster and less frequently

  • @BeckTropical The sprites are the same size. The PS1 game is displaying at a higher resolution so they look smaller that's all.

  • I got this for Saturn. And it's really almost the same bad stuff we got on PSX.

Plus the transparencies are bad as ever on Saturn.

The good thing is that all the music on the game (at least the copy i own) is the same of UMK3, not the slower versions found on PSX's and N64's MKT. They sound a little better on most cases.

  • @bizarroeddie1 I have it and the music is just the same as the psx

  • @1111111k11111l111111

yeah looks like there are 2 different versions of it.

i recently got one with the same music as the PSone either.

  • Fuck yeah! I haven't watched the vid yet but it's awesome to see you finally got hold of the Saturn bretheren. I wonder how much it set you back :/

  • @strykah92 ...enough ;)

It easily holds the No 3 spot of the list of most expensive Saturn games I've bought.

  • @therealbluedragon What were the other two? (no price disclosure necessary) And I'm guessing they're Japanese Saturn exclusives, if not Panzer Dragoon. Lol

  • @strykah92

    1. Street Fighter Zero 3 w/ Ram cart

    2. Panzer Dragoon Saga

    3. Mortal Kombat Trilogy

  • @therealbluedragon when i was a kid, trilogy was the best on the ps, i now own it for the saturn. and its pretty much the same, but the ps controller is better suited for mortal kombat

  • Saturn MKT came out well over a year after the PS1 & was just a straight port of that version meaning both games were pretty much exactly the same (give or take a few SFX files). Not surprising, cause at this point in time it was pretty obvious the Sega Saturn was a sinking ship. Despite the lack of resources that went into the Saturn version (which might help explain why it took so damn long to get done) it was a surprisingly good port & easily trades punches with the PS1 game*

    * Pun intended
