@Xxkezzi94xX: You are absolutely wrong. Les Mis is NOT about the French Revolution. And the reason SailorYavin said French is because the composer of the musical and the original lyricist are from France. It wasn't until a British producer decided to adapt it for an English audience that the show became linked to any English speaking country. The famous stage version is only British produced, NOT written. Don't tell me you thought Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote it?!
@LaMisereHQ: whoa, really? i always thought that it was written about some period after the french revolution (right? i think it was about after the french revolution......) but totally thought it was the musical originated from england....... where can i find the original french soundtrack???
Besteira total.
I must say I'm truly amazed with this rendition. I'm usually not very fond of the versions here in Brasil, mainly because of the translation. This was though really good! Both the lyrics (outstanding!) and the performance! Specially considering Brasil never had any tradition in musical plays, wich means it's also very difficult to study theater+singing. Liked it very very much! 5 stars for sure!
Perfeito! Realmente maravilhosa!
that was wonderful. it was good hear another version of this song being sung...i got the gist of the language because i can speak spanish or i have heard this song so many times that i already know it. regardless, it was beautiful.
Music isn't about being in a language you understand! it's about feeling the same passion that the person singing or performing is. I guess if you don't understand and feel music though you wouldn't know that. And I agree, she did sing it beautiful. You can really feel her passion and love for the song. That's what I call "becoming the character you are"!!!
How do you idiots think music, languages, love, and general information is shared!!?? The more people that share these artistic passions, the more friendships that arise. Which ultimately spreads understanding and love!
shut the fuck up idiot... none is obbligated to know your fucking language! but we do have the same rights of entertainment as u do!and u know what? I'm brazilian but I speak english even though, and I garantee you the brazilian lyric of this song is way too better than original one... IF was there a language supposed to b official on the show and not replaced that should be french, and not english!so if a french story can b translated into english, why not in portuguese?
Sarcasm my dear, I actually found this performance outstanding. And if you read my comment, I said "You mean there are people who sing Les Miserables in English?" meaning it is peposterous to assume that the native tongue of "Les Miserables" is any language other that the language of the title and the book and the original musical. I do like your passion though. I hope you are a stage performer, you could bring a lot of you passion to the stage.
it doesnt matter if the 'original' book, title or musical was written in a different language. what matters is the amount of people who see the play or read the book and know the amount of awsomeness that is in the storyline, DUH!!! who cares what fuckin language its in when they see it.
Sure it's about the French revolution but it's written by an British composer of musical theatre. It is an British production, so if it was in any one language then it should be in English.
have you ever heard lea salonga's version? it will get you hooked, i assure you. she's the best eponine ever, in my opinion. anyway, if she isn't the BEST, then why was she handpicked by sir cameron mackintosh himself among ALL eponines to perform the part in the les miserables 10th anniversary concert?
I believe that there is not comparasión any more than between actresses who sing in the same language. The translation and the pronunciation is completely different in every "cast", although the role is equal of emotive
Everybody is better than her?! Mexico, shimada i don't know what, lea.... hello?! She is great! She is a amazing voice, actress and person! I love her! :p, if you don't like her the problem is yours, so, fuck off!
you have to remember that when that cast recording came out, that was a really edgy pop sound that frances had. that was like idina menzel in wicked, and everyone was like "oh my god she's amazing."
I like this woman a lot, shes very powerful. Im not a big fan of portugues in singing (its kinda of sharp, but she is beautiful. SHe reminds me of Gerardina Trovato. Pesronally, I like Lea Salonga as the best Eponine, although Sutton Foster is amzing and Frances Ruffelle is superb live.
She has a tendency to go off-key and is not consistent in her ability to sustain notes, but she's better than the whiny and nasal-sounding Frances Ruffelle.
You had to see Frances to truly love her. I had a pleasure of seeing her on Boradway and in London in the role. She is truly brilliant. Her acting is the best I ahve see an Eponine do (I have seen tons), so please do not jdge her on just a cast recording.
Truly a beautiful voice. I agree with others that her voice sounds a bit old for the role, but disagree with others when I say that Frances Ruffelle is just a squeaky annoying little chipmunk voice and that makes this girl better. Frances Ruffelle is better than no other Eponine that I have heard thus far. Good acting is NO excuse for bad (and I mean AWFUL) singing. This woman is good, but that's what she comes off as. A good "woman" not a girl. Thumbs up overall.
Thanks! I was so overjoyed when I saw this. I'd been wanting to hear Ester's rendition of the song for a while now and I'm not disappointed at all. She's incredible!

"On my own" = "Sozinha" ou "Por minha conta"
If you enjoy this adaptation you should search for the brazilian version of "A Noviça rebelde"

For those of you that speak "Brasilian Portuguese" what does "On My Own" translate to?
eeveez 2 years ago
It's supposed to mean "a sós" but in this version it was translated as "só pra mim", that actually means "just for me" not "on my own"
fredbpm 2 years ago
Thank you! Very similar to Spanish, "solo para mi" would be "just for me".
eeveez 2 years ago
Well, "on my own" could be translated to "por mim mesmo", "por conta própria", etc... but the version is "só pra mim", which means "only for me".
