  • What I don't understand is how the robot can articulate the notes. (For those non-brass players, the notes have to be articulated correctly to match the pitch, the valves only exist to make the sound precise.)

  • ya i dont see how the can give it lips to buzz (im a trumpet player)

  • Yea, it seems almost impossible... but apparently - (according to their own website) To play musical instruments

Toyota developed artificial lips that move with the same finesse as human lips, which, together with robots` hands, enables the robots to play trumpets like humans do.

  • it really could be some kind of air pump because the robot is actually pushing down the keys

  • I don't understand what is so hard to believe about the robot playing the trumpet...

  • No, it's not pre-recorded. The robot was designed with artificial lips to get the little subtleties. Go search the web for the words "toyota", "robot", and "trumpet". There are tons of articles about this model.

  • As far as I know Toyota developed a lung system, its probably an air compressor.

I have seen music machines that are over 100 years old that use bellows to play flutes, drums etc. I saw this robot in Tokyo June 2007 have a look at my video also.
