Thanks for the awesome tutorial. I have a question. =D I did like you did at the beginning. File-import media but I don't see any video file in my folder. I have 4.3GB sized video file which is a movie file in a mkv format. The video file is in the folder but when I search with import media, I don't see it. So I changed "File of type" to all files and there it was. The thing is I can't play or drag to timeline. There is this cross sign appearing when I dragged to timeline. Please HELP ! =[[

@ArshavinatorTheTres yes avi format work i have imported them many times. make sure you add the video to a video track (ctrl+shift+q) and not an add it to an audio track by mistake, this is the only thing i can think of is the problem ? let me know how you get on and i'll try be of better help, if needed xD

@PreciousAhavah Its called pressing "s" to split the clip, doing that on both sides to isolate the part you want, and deleting the rest. You can also do this to select a part and delete it.

I just installed it myself, and while i'll agree its a bit tricky to get your bearing of what all the panels are (and the buttons on them), it really isnt that hard to pickup if you just try

To cut video put the cursor to the start of the cut, press S, put the cursor to the end of the cut, press S, click to highlight the chunk between the S points u made (aka the video you want cut) .... right click, and click cut, or delete

I downloaded the free trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 and made an AMV with it and when I rendered it, it was 1.77 GB. After the free trial expired I found a way to get Sony Vegas for free. Then I made another AMV and when I rendered it, it was 20.8 GB. So then I went back and rendered my first AMV again, and it was 28.6 GB. If you don't know, that is WAY to much GB. The max for Youtube is 2 GB. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@dbzhoobler100 your output as in when you render or export it out, ie make it into a movie format for youtube or whatever, the quality is obviously set yo way way to high. lower the quality, 256 is ok and the one above that should give you all the high def that youtube can handle anyway. you dont need to render it at the very best quality as its not being played in a 150 foot cinema screen

@929amaterasu WMM is very basic of course but I made my very first fully edited video using WMM with zero instructions in about 20 mins ... and the quality was actually quite good so I was told ... most thought I was very experienced, lol.

Now, Vegas Pro is another story ... it's like comparing simple mathematics to quantum physics. Then throw AVCHD into the mix and you will soon realise how user friendly WMM and .avi truly are.
