V8 SHO Borla Exhaust

NebraskaSHO, im around the omaha ne area, and im looking to trade my bronco for one of these from craigslist.. its a 1997 SHO with around 110xxx miles, it has a new paint job, and hes putting on new rear brake lines and doing a tune up. What are some things that i should check on the car, i kno about the cam sproket deal, but what else should i check? please respond, thanks!

@89broncoeddiebauer See how the transmission shifts. If it is smooth and solid that is a plus. If the rear end is sagging it will need new struts. The original SARC struts are no longer available. There are some other items, like replacing the rear spark plugs and zip tying the secondary valves open.

@zkw313 Poor, The best I ever got was somewhere around 24-25mpg. It had a slipping torque converter clutch for the 5 years I owned it.

Average probably around 16-17.

@racingchamp101 It really comes down to the driver of the M3 if he has the 6 speed. I out pull a stock G8 GXP on the highway on a weekly basis at our local meets. But the GXP can easily blow the M3 out of the water with only a few $1000. There is a supercharged one that comes to the meets. It is extremely awesome.

The sprockets that drive a chain in between cams was swedged on from the factory. Eventually the splines holding the two together will strip and the cam will stop spinning, even though the sprocket is still spinning.

Then your pistons hit any open valves and it's all down hill from there.

its not too bad. but if the check engine light is on check to see whats wrong. 8 coil packs are expensive and they go bad around the 100,000 mile mark. but if you can find a well maintained one jump on it

But my point is this. Your GTO isn't anything great, and even if/when you get a C6 that's nothing all that spectacular either. Just because someone else does have the excellent taste in cars as you doesn't call for remarks about it being stupid to mod a Taurus.

I used to go out beating on modded imports in my '92, and then never knew what hit them when I walked them in a race. The surprise on the other person's face is well- worth modding such a car to those power levels...

The Taurus SHO is similar. A 4-door sedan, with a 32 Valve Yamaha V8 under the hood. It may not be a 13-second car stock, but it's still a bit of a sleeper and that's what a lot of us like. It's not that we choose a car like this because we don't have the money for something better... some of us are just into this class of a car.

And yes there are modded Taurus SHO's out there that are faster than stock as well as modded GTO's. The SHO's love boost, and a little bit of boost will go a long way.

The Taurus SHO isn't a sports car. I agree. But neither is a GTO. The true sports car owners out there look at the GTO as a poor-man's sports car. It was a $33k car with 400 horsepower, weighs 2 tons, and looks like a big Cavalier. Whether you want to admit to that or not, that's your call. But the GTO, in my opinion, is a somewhat bland car, with some power behind it. A bit of a sleeper. And that's what I like about it...

I used to own a heavily-modded '92 SHO, and a bolt-on '04 GTO. I now own a stock '96 SHO and a twin turbo '05 GTO. So I'm not speaking from my ass when I say what I'm about to say lol...

The Taurus SHO is actually a very decent car for it's time. Yes, it's out-dated now feature-wise and power-wise, but again, in it's time, it was a nice car. It still is a nice car....

A car is worth what someone will pay for it. I have a 97 SHO with all the aftermarkets you can throw at it including nitrous professionally installed. Bought it that way. I'll let you have mine for a today only price of around $9995. Each day longer I have it the price goes up because they are super rare and the new SHO is out now which will escalate the older rarer ones. Did you know you can get a 06 GTO for under 10k now?

Probably anywhere from 400-600. Not to tough but it needs to be done by someone good at welding. If doing local, I recommend buying a junk cam to practice on and finding an excellent welder too.

ford had yamaha build them a bunch of...basically SUPER engines. they had car designs in mind. but when the engines SHOwed up, they had no cars to put them in. i guess there was trouble with designs and they said fuck it. put them in a bunch of tauruses and called it SHO. because when your driving and see one behind you its says OHS which of course means, "oh, holy shit."
