  • My grandfather was the cantor at the Ashkenazi synagogue in Ataba for many years.

    He passed away in 1961. We left Cairo for the US shortly after that. 

  • I lived during this time shreif2007 and yes it was a great time, and the most beautful, people were loving and caring to each other,celebrating together and very recpectful, it was a time where things were simple and clear.

  • The Synagogue of Nabi Daniel in Alexandria is a very beautiful building too.. There is no problem taking photos there...no guards will say anything

  • As the last slide indicates it is called "Shalom Alekhem". "Peace be on You". it is based on a prayer generally sung at the end of Friday night service. Keep well

  • I am reading about these synagogue's in a book titled "The Man in the White Sharkskin suit"

  • This is truly amazing to see something like this, that my own Grandfather had his Bar mitzvah at this place of worship.
