Last Air Show I went to was on August 12th,2007. The 3 highlights of the Air Show was the Super Hornet,Rockwell B1 Lancer Bomber,and the C-130 Blue Angels Fat Albert JATO Demo to open up for the Blue Angels flying demo. It will be the last time the C-130 will sadly be seen doing the JATO demo.
For some reason the Canadian C-130 Trenton Hercules rocket JATO demos seemed louder back when I first heard them in the 1960's and early 1970's than the Fat Albert and other modern ones.
you have to see it in PERSON to understand why its "so special" - I first say this in 1985 during a blue angels show - they have been doing the SAME routine for more than 20 years - the angels show always begins with a C-130 doing a jato takeoff - they do it because it get's everyone attention.
Frankly the JATO takeoff is the best part of angels show. But again, you must see it in PERSON to get the idea - it's absurdly LOUD - the video can't do it justice.
@markmac141 8 rockets with 10,000 lbs thrust each. Each side of 4 rockets have 40,000 lbs thrust. About 6,000 lbs thrust more than both F-4 Phantom engines combined just one side.

holy crap, never ceases to amaze me. JATO takeoffs are amazing! I saw this once in person at Jackson Navy Base down in Florida.
