  • Yes. Those were "Boss" times. That was across from Wallach's Music City. I remember collecting race car stickers like STP and MOON racing products. Do you remember the smell of the food served in front of the Hollywood Ranch Market? I lived across the street from the Hollywood swimming pool on Cahuenga Blvd. I went to Vine Street School. My neighbor was Denice Crosby.

  • I was at the 1964 Teenage Fair to see the newly invented motorized skateboard, old school with clay wheels (wish we had the composite wheels bak then). Sonny and Cher were headlining and were performing as Ed and I made our way through the auditorium t the exhibit booths. I remember thinking, Wow! she is young and hot and he is old and goofy looking and their singing sounds like cats being bathed against their will. The skateboard was too expensive, Sonny and Cher became worldwide superstars.

  • Yes, i went to the Teenage Fair ('64, '65) during spring break. i don't remember any of the bands. But, i remember it was fun trying to pick up chicks. At that time, the Aquarius Theater was the called the Moulin Rouge & later became the Hullabaloo (around '66, '67) where I saw the Electric Flag. Things changed radically from '63/'64 when the Beach Boys were hot, then came "Love Ins" or "Be Ins" in Griffith Park with groups like the Peanut Butter Conspiracy performing & the Doors on the Strip.

  • Yes I was!! I saw Steppenwolf..and all the teen bands....thank you so much for this

  • The Rising Sons played indoors...'66? '67? at the Palladium. I knew I had a future when I heard them and saw their original look! Very artistic. Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal were in the group at that time. I must have been 16 or 17. We crossed the street and crashed the Aquarius Theater, and saw the Doors if my memory serves.. Don't know if it was called The Aquarius Theater then...

    PS I remember Wildman Fisher!

  • I was there at night.

Thanks for the lovely video :)

  • I'm pretty sure you got a couple pix of the Buffalo Springfield's Bruce Palmer (RIP), and Dewey Martin (RIP) with maybe Richie Furay. What year(s) were the photos taken?

  • Oh Yeah!, I remember the hollywood teenage fair Very Well, I was around 12 years old and just saw '2001: A Space Odyssey' at the Pantages theater and went over to the Palladium where they were setting up for it, One of the workers let me get in free; I cannot begin to tell you all the things I remember about it and how Cool it was to hang out there; I think the last one I went to was 1972, After that, It started going south, But, Ohhh the groooovy Memories.

  • Anybody remember Mike Milroy Jimmy Cowels Joe Sueman Eddie Littner RGB Color on Highland ave ? We saw the tail end of it in the 70's at night. The crime got so bad the city put to many restrictions on it and people lost interest in it. Every year it was on the news. A stabbing a rape a dope sale. It was more like a giant head shop on wheels then anything for kids but it was great. I grew up near Western and Melrose. It ended by the time I was 13 and Van Nuys Blvd was the place to be.

  • I would like to find people that hung around the church in Hollywood. Rev Ross took care of a lot of us when we arrived in Hollywood. I would love to find people from that time. Anyone remember Wildman Fisher?

  • Yeah Good Times, all the free RC cola you could drink,

Yhe smell of rhe paint from those spinny things they sold, the free stuff like shampoo, hair stuff, records, posters, drumsticks, All the shiny guitars, =drums, All the cool bands, I have a pic of my band playing in 1968 I went there from 66 to 73

  • So much fun, and it made us feel so grown up!!!!! Hahahaha!

But, what's with the music you picked - "Noel"? Sorry, but that's just strange.

  • The Battle of The Bands one year in fact featured two bands that won !st and Runner-up. they were The Chambers Brothers,"Time" and Sly and The Family Stone,"Stand". Can anyone tell me what year? They also had a lifesize statue of "The Illustrated Man",Rod Steiger which drew lots of comments as he was totally naked..

  • I was there when Hendrix surprised the small stageband next to our Johnston's Yogurt Booth and asked if he could play.He was carrying his White Strat and parted the crowd as he approached. my job onstage was to keep people off the stage which up till then was no problem, then pandamonium broke out as a huge crowd rushed towards our stage area. I was 15 years old and threw him a paper-mache rose which he caught and stuck in his guitar. Anyone remember,"Trugoy Loves You"? That lucky kid was me jj

  • @johnj623 Thank gawd someone else was there when Jimi Hendrix played there. I told my kids and they said I must have been on some trip now at least they know I was not "Stoned" (that came later). My Mom wouldn't let me go, so I took off anyway. We hitched a ride from San Gabriel Valley and back home at 4:00am we got busted walking off the freeway. Does anyone remember the 3 day concert at the old race track in Upland? I remember seeing Emerson Lake and Palmer, and the paiano player levittated?

  • My buddy Steve and I went to the fair in 73, Both he and I lived near L.A.C.C. on Vermont. So we walked there. Got to see Chaka Khan and Rufus, Kool and the Gang and a few others. Wow! This definately brought back memories. Thanks.

  • My friends mom was out of town that week and we scored a job working for Dorothy Shreve modeling agency selling pizza and trying to sign up people for the agency's classes. we tried to sign up Jimi Hendrix (didn't recognize him!!). when he went on stage he turned to us and tipped his hat! BLOWN AWAY! Smoked a joint with Fraternity of Man....we were there every day in '69. It was a great time for 17 yr old valley girls!

  • Jimi Hendrix played the Teenage Fair March 30, 1969 as a surprise sideman with Delaney & Bonnie!

  • I loved the teenage fair, my mother would drop us off for the day and come back to get us at night. No cells then just a spot and watch the clock,

  • We saw 'Clear Light' at the Fair. They had two drummers, and they sprayed whipped cream all over their instruments as they played at the end of their show. Every band outside played "Sunshine of Your Love" and we kept thinking it was the record, the covers were so good. Back inside, the announcer apologized for keeping us waiting while they were restringing a guitar for a left-hander.. We went outside, and came in later. We caught the last 5 minutes of Hendrix playing. Anyone else see this?

  • I remember all of this. Yes, Wallich's music city on the corner of Sunset and Vine. I knew a girl named Pepper back then. It would be great if it were the Mick Martin (Me), Rootbeer the dog, Cinnomon, Preacher, Mary, who ended up marring Jerry Morris, sleeping on the roof where the church was located.

  • what fun! pepper and i attended, enjoyed the trip tent with strobe lights and a rock band, had a picture made on a button after walk across the street to Wallace Music City and used one of the listening booth to preview records and make out..... grand times

  • Thanks for posting. Brings back so many memories. Funny thing is, I recently found my high school girl friend on Facebook. Hadn't spoke to one another in 35 years. She insists our first 'date' was to the Hollywood Bowl, I think it was the Teen Fair. Summer of 67....it definitely was 'the summer of love'.

  • I was only a kid but my friends sister took us. It was fantastic and unreal to me. They had a ferriswheel with spinning cars, I threw up during the ride and it got on everybody. Good times. I was talking about the Teenage Fair to my wife just last night. Thank you for this video.

  • I was a dancer on many of the stages of the Teen Fairs for a few years. I started out with the Inmates who won that year and went on to become the original Knack with Capitol Records. Richard Adams (he produced the Fairs) wanted me to have a cage at the Whiskey. Those were the days and what wonderful memories. Thank you.

  • I was there and not only got to play in the battle of the bands, but this Christmas my old bass player sent me a copy of the recording we did at the JBL studio there! What a great set of memories and to hear myself play after 43 years, it's just unreal! Met my first love there and though she's long gone, I'm still playing the drums and in a band. Life seemed sooo much simpler. Selective memory maybe but, all the same, it's MINE! THANKS for the GREAT video!

  • @jackieiii wait, what band?

  • I was in the Dark Side in '67 but a few of the guys went back in '68 (maybe '69) and played under the name Blue Stone Boogie Band. They went on to become Pearly and actually put out a record or two. How about you?

  • @jackieiii It actually was simpler, a lot less forms to fill out for one thing and a day lasted twice as long.

  • I was there! I tried to pick up every girl appearing in this video - and got nowhere.

  • This was one of my best memories. I was there with my sister, we handed out programs. We lived by the Chinese Theatre and went to Hollywood High. We would always go to Music City and Listen to records in one of their booths. Life on the Blvd. was a blast.

  • LOL there are so many, I was there just about every day cuz some of the guys from our school were in the battles of the bands, that's how I got in for free so many days, do you remember the tent that featured the "Woman who turns into a gorilla?", well they asked my girlfriend to be the girl that changes into the gorilla, and they paid her 5.00, she did it! not to mention all the great music that came out of that event!

  • OH thank you so much for this video! I have asked people so many times if they remember the Teenage Fair, and this is the only video that has ever come up, this brings back sooooo many memories! too bad for the kids today, that they can't have things like this to enjoy like we did, Bless you for this memory!

  • Thanks for writing to me.

I used to walk a mile to the Cahuenga Pool with my James Bond novel. The only danger was the lifeguard's reproach (very mild) the day my baby oil broke poolside. It still came in glass bottles. What was sunscreen?

Someone asked me if I knew who the bands are and I said I'd like to know who they all are. I'm hoping some of the faces are still local. Would love to hear your "memories."
