@rumpwrestler: Sadly youtube -besides offering wonderful clips- also provides a platform for people, who know nothing and are nothing, to get rid of their unqualified comments. Gwyneth Jones was the only soprano in her time, who could sing the role of Helena, and on top of all she was so beautiful. Strauss would have loved her!

Sawallisch, the preeminent Strauss conductor of his time. What a golden age at Munich's Opera!!

@fafner1970 Sawallisch was a house conductor, nothing more. At best he was mediocre. I've heard many of his live performance and been bored. He won't be remembered for anything.

@skyeomania Unfortunately the Jones recording shows how out of tune much of her singing is. A great performing artist, but had so many vocal problems....
