The rarest mount in the game is the Fluorescent Green Mechanostrider. It was a mistake made by a GM when they gave a player an incredibly rare mechanostrider to replace one they strangely lost.

Now it's so rare that only one person in the entire game has got it and it's item details can only be seen on the EU armory. Im being serious it's real.

I think the Bengal Tiger is the rarest mount (it does exist) it was in early beta/alpha (it was hell good then) it was applied before riding changed then you needed like kodo riding tiger riding etc. And the mounts costed more then the riding

@kasp9451 The first mount is NOT bought in Wintergrasp. It's a reward from grinding exalted reputation with Wintersaber faction (found in Winterspring).

At level 60 this was one of the rarest mounts in the entire game. You would have to do 850+ quests - grinding the same 2-3 quests over and over again - killing mobs with a ridiculously low spawn/drop rate. Blizzard eventually made it a lot easier - increasing experienced gained from quests etc.
