There something about instruments which add so much more power and emotion to the story, while electronic music can sound so cold and emotionless at times hence the addition of voices. For as much as a performance the acting is which is outstanding for the new series, the old theme does seems to also mirror how powerful the performances are for this rendition. This music much more symbolizes adama fierce determination to stay in control to make a decision and stand by it. Find earth.

I prefer the new theme with the reimagined series, but that doesn't mean I don't like this tribute to BOTH. It's quite wonderful, and its a great fusion between the classic series that I loved as a kid and the snazzy new series I love as an adult. You did quite good work.

Whoever made the new galactica model ought to be beat to death with it. They took a ship and turned it into something that looks like a gigantic vibrator, its even "ribbed for your pleasure". I watched the old series every week as a kid, changing Col. Tigh's race? Ok. Changing Starbucks sex? WTF? But what they did to the Galactica was the last insult. And before I get flamed by the new series fans, save it. Cursing me and calling me names does nothing to improve my view of the new series or you.

As a huge fan of the old series, I didn't bother with the new redone series (as it looked too serious to me) but after being pestered to death by a couple of fanatical matesto watch it , I can now say that it's a great show and I was sad that it ended just as I was getting right into it!! Still prefer this theme though, sorry.

No way. Don't get me wrong it's a wonderful song and I am pleased RDM used the song throughout the new show but as the opener, no way. It just doesn't fit with the tone of the series at all. I was watching this clip and I was totally thrown off: there are scenes of mass slaughter and hellish battle and there's a trumpet playing as if it's a party. It's kind of like the end credit music for West Wing. It's tonally inappropriate, IMO.

You're right, it wouldn't have fit has the opening theme. But it's such a shame that they discarded the old theme almost entirely in the new show. I know they used it as the "Colonial Anthem" but that was played only a couple times throughout the entire series. I think they should have at least used the old theme as a motif when something good happens to the survivors. The old theme represents BSG as a whole to me and the new show feels kind of empty without it, IMO.

Actually. Having just jumped on the BSG Bandwagon I watched all 4 seasons on DVD, a few times during the new show the old theme would resurface. EX: In the 2 hour pilot during the Ceremony for the Mothballing of Galactica they used the classic BSG Fanfare. *chills*

TO be Honest I absolutely love the new shows theme, conveys a sense of loss and hope, where as this seems a happy yay lets all find Earth attitude.

The old and the new show are completely different in so many ways, I'd consider it insulting to compare the new one to the old.

Nicely done. Loved those few times in the new series when they incorporated the original theme music. When I was a kid, I composed lyrics for the music, and still remember them. Try singing it: Five battlestars fighting Centurions, four were destroyed, but one survived. This battlestar leads a fleet of smaller ships, all seeking Earth. (slow passage) Earth, the legendary planet, exists perhaps in another time. Cylons' mission: destroy the humans. Colonials must save their lives. (Repeats)

I really love the Battlestar Galactica theme/Colonial Anthem. I grew up watching the original series as a boy in the 1980s and I have completely fallen in love with the new show, and when I first heard the Colonial Anthem version, I was completely blown away- it made me fall in love with the whole Battlestar Galactica saga again. I really do want this played at my wedding and my funeral. It's so stirring and inspirational.

They did. It's now the Colonial anthem. It's played in the Miniseries twice: once as Baltar is introduced by the TV station before his interview, and once as the Vipers led by Apollo fly past the decommissioning ceremony. Then it appears again in Final Cut at the end when D'Anna is doing her voiceover in tribute to the crew.

This is what the theme the new series should have had in the first place. The new producers have almost all but scrapped any vestiges of the original series. A real pity in some ways.

Great job. I disagree with deeray41 that the original theme is too dated; maybe slightly, but I think it'd still be great today. Space: 1999, now THAT'S a dated theme song.

I also like the current song. I think perhaps they should have the Gayathri mantra segue into the original theme, or use the original theme for the end credits.
