i'd love to teach poi im only past my 1 year mark and im in the advanced stages of creating my own moves and styles and mixing all levels of techniques together. dont worry though. with a little bit of practice you'll get the hang of it :D. good luck! and btw you can make poi with a sock and throw a tennis ball inside, or even put a rolled up sock inside of a sock...extremely soft :)
Uhm.... May I suggest that you start out with a sock poi? And never light fire untill you've praticed your moves to a stand where you can do them repeatedly without hitting you self and feel comfortable with it. :)
can i ask is the wick on your poi a soft material that if you pull at it comes away a sort of white powdwery stuff if so bont burn them the stuff will disintergrate when burnt not good i say this because they look very simular to soom that a friend of mine bought from ebay i may be wrong real arimide (kevlar) wick in most cases is a creamy yellow and will not pull away also for a bit fo help see my coments i left for.
