  • very nice job I made tee lite goblet holder was my first one it looks pretty good

  • cool! nice work man.

  • ever use steel wool instead of high grit sandpaper? im new to lathes but have often used 000-00000 steel wool to make fine finishes on wood works

  • @sirblocketh

I often do use steel wool of that kind of grade between coats of finish becasue it won't scratch it quite like sandpaper does. I do usually use high grit papers for rubbing out the lacquer.

  • where did you get your lathe from alex

  • good video

  • what brand chuck do you have

  • Great work man!! Could you show me how to turn some thred in wood?

  • Spur center in the middle of the chuck?

  • @ThePaddler3

No, I didn't used a spur centre in the chuck.

    Alex.

  • im buying a lathe and i was wondering. when you first started was it HARD to get the shapes and nice beads? because i never used one. also if i only have a faceplate dos that mean that i cannot turn with the tail stock thingy off? thanks preston

  • @sandstar102

In the begining it can be harder to creat small little beads like this but it is perfectly possible. Hollowing it where it gets a little trickyer. With a faceplate you can remove the tailstock because you fix it using screws, you just have to make sure you don't end up turning into the screws. I have done several videos showing using a faceplate so check those out.

  • @TeenWoodworker thanks sooooooo much!

  • @TeenWoodworker you need to make yourself a center support jig using inline roller blade wheels to surpport the open end of the goblet then you can hollow out deeper with out the vibration

  • what is the name of that lathe

  • Very nice. I've never attempted anything so delicate. I may try now, you made it look so easy.

  • well - you sure inspire and help me .. and I am 69 :)

    Cheers

  • Beautiful Goblet Alex. Thanks for explaining everything you were doing.

  • what a nice young man...great job alex and congratulations!

  • Excellent job Alex! In about 10 years that is going to be even more richer in color. Thats what I love most about cherry it only gets beautiful in age! Mike PA. USA

  • @mykmykmykkk

It is just the nova, I may go for a supernova next time but it all depends really. :p

  • I have been watching your videos for a little while now. I enjoy them thoroughly Alex. Very descriptive, very informative. I have worked with wood my whole life. I am just now however getting into the lathe work. I look forward to anything that you post! Thanks from Erik in Jonesborough, TN. USA

  • job well done! :) i like it

  • Hi Alex i was writing to ask about chucks. I have a very similar axminster lathe to the one you have and i was wondering where you purchased your chuck and how much it cost? Another question i need answering is is there a certain size chuck you need for individual lathes , now my lathe is almost identicap to yours so im sure it will be a very similar size that i will purchase. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming i am also a teen woodworker and love learning from someone my age :D

  • @jack1111irish

Yes I bought it from d&m tools the thread on the lathe is what you need to look out for. On mine it is T04M 1x 8tpi which is a fairly standard sized thread but you need to make sure otherwize it will not fit on the lathe. Axminster is also a good place to buy chucks if you are looking for one.

    Alex

  • Hey Alex, Nice goblet! Isn't cherry a beautiful wood to work with? And now you've moved up to a chuck. Just having a chuck can really expand your turning capability, and it looks like you got a good one there, too. Although I don't think you ever let not having a chuck slow you down. Have fun with it and keep turning!

    Larry

  • Alex, When I grow up, I want to be able to turn as superb as you do, Hero.

And to think I was going to use that chunk for a lidded box... You did far better than I.

  • @Aharndts

    Ha! Thanks.

Hey, theres nothing wrong with a box in fact I you may see a box some time in the furture

    Thanks again, Alex :-)

  • That's super work!

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • don't take any heed of small minded people with negative comments like the jerk commenting on your voice. you are an inspiration and have great talent for a lad of your years keep it up I am sure you will aspire to Great things

  • @ben1956

Hey thanks dude! Na I wasn't too bothered its more funny than anything, it is probably quite noticable for some people but it not a big deal by any means.

    Thanks again, Alex :-)

  • Congrats on the 1,000 mark

  • I'm with fireball570 would love to see a video about what he described. Keep up the good work bud!

  • Awesome simple project, to bad i don't have a lathe. Ive been meaning to get one. I think you should do a video on the router table, techniques, safety procedures, different types of router bits etc. that would be interesting.

  • @fireball570

I don't see why not if that would help. I will try and post that some time in the future.

IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS THIS LET ME KNOW PLEASE.

    Alex :-)

  • make a wooden bottle =) is that possible?

  • @versatilechicken

I guess so, it sounds pretty cool, it would go well with the goblet!

Only problem would be hollowing it out, it would be very difficult through such a small neck but i think I have an idea to solve this. Thanks for a great idea, Alex.

  • Wow first comment great vid
