Also, to be technical - This is from seasons 4 and 5 - season 6 was Fast Forward, and was only broadcast first because of a network scheduling change.

When Season 4 started it still had the lines "living under ground" and Mikey going "we shredded Shredder"

After The Acient One the intro was tweaked to this version saying "new let us down" as well as Karai going "watch out for Shredder".

In most iterations of the TMNT she learns how to fight from Splinter and the turtles.

The Archie comics were the first to do it, a sub plot had her being trained by Splinter. She even had her own spin off mini series and a back up feature in the book.

When the original Mirage comics started up again in 2001 it established early on that April had picked up some ninjitsu being with the turtles.

The new cartoon played it similar to the Archie book by showing her being trained.
