Wow, this thing is cool. I thought it was just something like a PDA, from the mods I seen on Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. I didn't realize that you could fold it in.
Somebody mentioned about the Tom Cruise movie (Minority Report). I think next year they will have the ability for TVs to be able to navigate the menus and change channels by using hand gestures. Yup, you don't even touch the screen. No need for a remote, just your hand so you don't need to get up your comfy chair and look for the remote.
@puppyjoe69 The movie featured holographic tech, no the same as you describe. Rather, this device must be based on the tech to display images on any surface (not thru projection), a plastic-like transparent would give a feel of holographic without actually being immaterial. Funny coincidence is I watched an interview about this tech being developed over her and at a certain part they discussed sci-fi concepts and brought up that very same movie, referring to the holograms.
i want to know how difficult it would be to just connect a bluetooth keyboard to it and boot straight into linux. i'm fairly sure this thing is running linux underneath everything.
Why does everything have to be a mobile phone these days? They couldn't make this a stand alone ebook reader like the kindle or the sony reader? I think that would have made more sense.
People like the idea of carrying around fewer devices (eg "why carry around a MP3 player when my cell phone can play music?"). Plus this way you could download maps wireless to view on the display.
The only negative thing with integrating a phone with other devices is that I dont like that fact that i have to ration battery life between my phone and an entertainment system. but with devices like this that dont use backlight and improvements in battery life, it makes my argument less compelling
