  • I read somewhere that the Seven Swords were added to represent the Seven Virtues.

  • Good gosh, man... They're really degrading it to that crud!? XC I agree, man: we've SEEN this crap! Can't we see the BOOK?! T.T

lol. I agree about Ed, Caspian, and Ramandu's Daughter. XD And the Coriakin line. The Seven Swords plot...don't even get me started... XP

The plot...ugh... Man, I just... T.T It really does sound stupid... I pray it'll be good. I also think it might be a bad movie... XP

  • the fact that they put the same music from the LWW trailer on it says something about where they're trying to go with it. It borders on the epicness of that trailer when you're watching it because of the climbing music. so perhaps they're also trying to go back to that...at least with the trailer.

  • As far as the 'cheesy line' of the minotaur thingy saying, 'was it something i said' to eustace,,, I have a feeling that its two seperate pieces of dialouge that they have run together just for the trailer... reasons why... when eustace is saying 'where in the blazers am I' they are standing on the main deck with several ppl around him,,, when the minotaur responds, he and only one other man are standing on the next level up, because you can see the handrail infront of them.?.

  • I know an up-and-coming Christian fantasy author who isn't going to see VDT because of the story-butchering (based on the trailer) and what he calls "Caspian and Edmund lusting over Ramandu's daughter", whom he also thinks is wearing immodest clothes. (The latter I take issue with because you can't even see what's she's wearing, but he bases this on the two boys' 'lustful' action). I am still seeing it myself, but I do fear that story-butchering is taking place. *cringe*

  • @bookmoviesnob Interesting. I don't think I'd go that far...as they say, you can't judge a book by it's cover, and you can't judge a movie by its trailer...although you can get a good idea of some of the things that will go on. I'm still planning on seeing it, and I'm glad I know now that there are changes, so maybe I'll enjoy it more than I would otherwise, had there been no warning...but I still wish they'd stick to the magic of the book and not add unnecessary extra plots. I share your fears.

  • I do admit that the change to the plot is cheesy and that supposed love triangle between Edmund, Caspian, and Ramandu's Daughter, Lilliandil, is a sad attempt by Fox. But I'm honestly still looking forward to the film. No movie can ever be better than it's book counterpart but I believe that though VDT may not capture most of the magic from the book it may be able to capture it's own independent magic.

  • I agree. They've changed everything I loved about Dawn Treader and made it Harry Potter meets Neverending Story (The Darkness is swallowing everything...). What's funny is that the makers of this movie are acting like the changes they've made are actually unique. Maybe they're hoping no one has seen/read or heard of Neverending Story.

I feel the same about the "look" of it though. The scenery and costumes, etc. are spot on to me.

  • and another thing what I didn't like...I know you will say "but it's in the book" bla bla, but I never liked the Ramandu's daughter-Caspian couple. I know it changes the whole story, but they should make this some different. This girl isn't beautiful, and they can't all act like Caspian never felt something for Susan. Caspian should marry Lilliandil only because he needs a queen. And I never liked it when someone "falls in love" just because of the beauty of someone. This is no true love!!!

  • Just thought I'd add...the sea serpent reminds me of the sand worms in Dune.

  • The 7 swords and the Stupid love triangle messed it up. It looks like they jumbled the book and added a bunch of crap to it. The acting will probly be good, it's just the overall script and the way they lead the story.

  • ...although comparing Harry Potter and Narnia is somewhat comparing apples and oranges. I think part of the reason the Harry Potter movies have worked so well is they stayed true to the books. Sure, they made some minor changes, but they made it work. There are no major new quests or plot lines. With VTD (at least how it looks so far), I agree with you. It looks like they have missed the point of the book.

  • Yes! That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking when watching this trailer. Amazing visuals, but please tell me they don't butcher the plot that much!

On the other hand, if they do butcher the plot, I'm glad they give us some warning now so we have some time to come to terms with it...rather than what happened with Prince Caspian, where I was expecting it to be true to the book and then being disappointed when I saw the movie.

  • @stevobaggins I think the movie was much much better than the book. Prince Caspian I mean. In the movie there where really more cool ideas like the Castle or that Susan was involved in the war. And Prince Caspian was basically like true to the book and better. We all didn't watch this movie yet, I don't know how it's gonna be, but I feel like it won't be better than the first 2 movies. The effects look really incredible, but as gpudle said, the swords thing and the love triangle is really stupid

  • @XxBenBarnesLoverxX I'm curious how I would feel about the PC movie if I had watched it before reading the book. The movie did a good job of what you mentioned, but I was annoyed with Peter's cockiness and rivalry with Caspian that isn't even hinted at in the book. I didn't like the added Caspian/Susan romance. I also wanted to see the romp with Bacchus & Silenus and Aslan restoring Narnia. As for this movie, I agree the effects look amazing, and the swords/love triangle/green mist is crazy.

  • @stevobaggins yeah, maybe I would feel different if I had read the book before I watched the movie, but I really loved it :) I guees it's a question of perspective. And I really loved the Suspian romance, but when I watch this now, I wish they would leave it, because it really hurts to see Caspian with another girl now^^ well the rivalry with Caspian thing is because the characters are older in the movie. Those things happen often between joung people :)

  • @stevobaggins I think the movie was much much better than the book. Prince Caspian I mean. In the movie there where really more cool ideas like the Castle or that Susan was involved in the war. And Prince Caspian was basically true to the book and better. We all didn't watch this movie yet, I don't know how it's gonna be, but I feel like it won't be better than the first 2 movies. The effects look really incredible, but as gpuddle said, the swords thing and the love triangle is really stupid

  • @XxBenBarnesLoverxX I mentioned that I wonder how I'd feel if I saw the movie first... I say that because I watched Eragon and The Lightning Thief before reading the books. I enjoyed both movies much more than I would have if I had read the books first. They make major changes to both, and in both cases, I'm not sure if they could adapt the rest of the series because they cut important characters (especially in Eragon). The only adaptation I've ever liked better than the book is Wicked (musical)

  • I have to disagree with you. The seven swords concept sounds WORSE than most video game plots...

  • The one positive with your situation is that your setting your expectations low, so if the movie turns out great (for you) then you'll be more entertained and satisfied.

But I do agree that the 'seven swords' plot line is too standard for a fantasy genre. Although I am still glad to see the White Witch being Green Kertle-esque ;-)

  • I thought the trailer had too many funny moments. But I did like was part when Eustace overreacts when he was on board the ship. So Ramandu isn't going to be in this huh? CRAP...! Well the trailer did hint that the girl can change form.

  • Lucy is too pretty, can you see her going "oh I'm ugly, I wish I was more beautiful like Susan?" I think I'll stick with the BBC version.

  • i agree with you completley and the stupid ramandus daughter thing makes me feel like king caspian is betraying susan :(

  • Will Poulter is excellent in 'School of Comedy'! He's sooo funny! Hopefully his comedic attributes will shine in dawn treader :D

  • Gpuddle im tiered of telling that the movie is based =( . A movie its a movie a book its a book dont u get it???- The book and the movie r 2 different stuff, the movie is to have funn, enjoy, see the directors ideas, see how the story looks in a holywood movie. This movie is going to b epic, the book is really different i know every one knows that but just enjoy, and motivate ppl to see it =) is a magical journey, the plot of the seven swords to defit evil is awsome i love that !!! its awsome!!!

  • I don't get the seven swords thing at all. Why are seven Telmarine swords so important to Aslan, when the Telmarines didn't believe in Aslan? And how did Aslan give Caspian's father a sword for that matter? That would suggest the extermination of the old Narnians occurred with Miraz, which then makes the Telmarines in Prince Caspian a little hard to believe.

  • it seems to me it more of the prince of persia/pirates of the caribbean style story with convoluted quests that ultimately feel unimportant.

  • i have honestly never been more disgusted by a trailer in my entire life. aren't trailers supposed to make you WANT to watch a movie? i mean, really. seeing this, which totally ruins the story, especially Edmund, after watching the Deathly Hallows trailer, makes it look just terrible. and i don't like the HP trailer just becasue it's HP, i like it because it looks like the movie will be the physical representation of my mental picture of the book, and that hardly ever happens anymore.

  • Harry Potter isn't nearly as great as Narnia. Harry Potter is more of a fad than anything.

  • I saw the new trailer. The "You're on the dawn treader" thing wasn't too bad. the "would you like me to change form" thing was so cheesy i almost died

  • Even if the fighting scene at the Lone islands is cool, it still really annoys me. The whole point about the Lone Islands is that they freed themselves and ended the slave trade with NO FIGHTING AT ALL, just using Caspian's wit and confidence, which was awesome. Now they're completely changing it

  • My head hurts from all the facepalming I did to myself during the Ramandu's daughter scene. Really Fox?? As for the dragon, I thought it looked like a manbat or even a flying pig. Seeing the shot where the dragon during the fight with sea serpent kinda settled that fear.

Plotwise, I was hoping for something with the sense of Master and Commander, minus the action scenes or even Finding Nemo. Must there be a threat or an action scene for the filmmakers to create a sense of adventure or tension?

  • I disagree about how you feel about the Harry Potter movies. I feel the exact opposite is true of the movies (at least the ones following the first two). They feel more character driven and less about magic than they're made out to be. Sure, they have fun with the special effects, but it's just like what you said about Star Wars. It's there and it's not much more than that. Especially when you look at the 6th movie, very little of the plot actually revolves around magic.

  • Maybe I felt that way because the characters in the HP movies are boring, and so I find myself focusing more on the magic.

  • @GPuddle I think you're exactly right about the Ooh Neat Look At All the Magic in the HP movies (though, strangely I prefer them to the books). Let's face it Star Wars stands pretty much alone in it's vision of an "immaculate reality" as Kurosawa defined it.

  • I wouldn't say alone. That was an aspect of Star Wars that was very influential on the genre.

  • So none of the Narnia characters are boring? I'm not even going to see the movie because of the boringness of them and also because the companies that have made the movies always stuff up and put in pointless shit.

  • You should put links to the stuff you are talking about.

  • I am not too concerned at this time... I mean, I can't deny it anymore, the plot has pretty much become a story of them saving Narnia.... again. However, I can't let go of the feeling that the seven swords/dark island storyline isn't as heavily emphasized as the trailers and storybook outline seem to do. On one level, it still feels like Dawn Treader. There is some good stuff in there. I just hope the bad stuff doesn't ruin all the good stuff. Right now there isn't a way of telling.

  • LOL I see a video in the queue from you and these days I just "Uh Oh!"... LOL

  • Harry Potter is and always will be better than Narnia.

  • @Kieransm09 i wouldn't compare the two i mean they're on completely different levels and genres. but you're entitled to your own opinion.

  • HP is an enjoyable read with characters I feel connected to. But not much more.

Narnia is something deeply deeply profound. It's astonishing what Lewis was able to do in so few pages. HP, on the other hand, was kind of overindulgent.

  • @GPuddle No its not. Which film series is the highest grossing film series of all time? Harry Potter? Face it most people in this world think HP is better than Narnia and the Narnia films are fucking shit. Especially because the company who make the movie changes and adds in pointless shit. Name one instance when that has happened in HP.

  • @GPuddle

Harry Potter introduced more Children to reading then Narnia and has a more exciting and Better story, and most of the world knows this.

  • @Kieransm09 I'm guessing you weren't around when The Chronicles of Narnia came out. Narnia was one of the major series that got me reading long before Harry Potter. The Narnia books are classics, and they have gotten children reading for over 50 years now. They actually had some influence on the HP books. Both series are amazing in their own way. HP may have introduced more of today's children to reading, but Narnia introduced more of the children who are now adults to reading.

  • @Kieransm09 yeah of course. Harry Potter is sooooo exciting. Harry Potter is the only one who can rescue the world from the evils. WOW... In Harry Potter there are always the same characters and the SAME STORY. It's always the same. Harry finds out the cruel plans, saves the day, next movie Voldemord is back and so on. And this is exciting? Not that I hate Harry Potter, but I think that Narnia is much better, because it tells about different characters and different stories.

  • @Kieransm09 and most of the world has no idea what is really good. This is a fact. I mean what does these people love today? Twilight... is sexual shit!! And Harry Potter is since the 3. movie a BIG dissapointment. It has only his name HARRY POTTER. There is no more something to love about it

  • @XxBenBarnesLoverxX

So by your logic people also think Narnia is good when they shouldn't, and are you saying the Narnia movies haven't been a dissapointment? How about adding the Witch to VOTDR for one reason and that is so people will see that the White Witch is in it and say, "Oh I want to go see it now"

  • @Kieransm09 have you seen this movie yet? No! The point is not how they make the movies, it's just the feeling. If Harry Potter would be a better movie, it would be my favorite, but it isn't. Because Narnia doesn't seem like a movie, it seems like real. But some people only think about the logics or anything. I think movies are only for fun, and if you had it, then it is a good movie. And Narnia was no dissapointment yet. Don't know how this movie gonna be...but I believe it will be great

  • @XxBenBarnesLoverxX

Fine I believe it will be bad,a nd have YOU seen the movie yet? No. And Narnia doesn't seem real to me at all and nor does Harry Potter. I just feel that I as a person am interested in HP more than Narnia, Despite the fact I think HP is better I still like Narnia. And I would hope like I am not telling you that you must think Hp is better, that you will not say the same to me about Narnia

  • @Kieransm09 it's YOUR opinion. And just because you say it or someone else, it doesn't mean it's true. There are lots of people who agrees with me. So noone can say what is true. If you don't like the movie, so don't watch it. I love it and I will. And I didn't say that I watched the movie yet. Therefor I said we can't talk about it yet, but I BELIEVE, and don't know, that it will be good.

  • @GPuddle

Most of the Narnia fans will not even CONSIDER that HP is better. I have considered that Narnia may be better but I have disproved myself by seeing which has had a great impact on me, and todays society.

  • @Kieransm09 Never!!!!! narnia is so much better, narnia has a diferent story to tell in each of the books, harry potter stays in the same lame plot, omg voldemort lol its getting a bit borring, i like the HP movies but the mKE ME BORRED ALLOT. NArnia is so much better in every way!!
