This is by far the best version of Little Earthquakes I've seen her do. She took over my whole body during this song. Nobody has that much power over me as Tori Amos does. She is simply phenomenal, underrated and irreplaceable.
Natural disasters are no longer un-known to man. All the tools to locate a disaster & measuring its intensity have been invented. Man has explored the space to its extremes discovering black holes as no time zones. New theories of earthquakes have come into being. Nuclear technology has entered a new phase. But man is as wild as he was. The war of human supremacy is going on destroying the globe altogether.
i was going through some bad stuff and a friend made me a tape. i never herd of her before but when i herd her voice i felt something i have never. I have always loved her music sence i am so happy that she has found me
The RAINN Concert has to rank as one of the all time great live performances. The fact that it represented such a noble, worthy cause made it all that much more monumental. Tori is a brilliant musical artist in every sense of the word.
Her music makes me think that all I need is music and prana. Unfortunately I get equally emotional and hungry after some time :) If she would just go on tour some more...
little earthquakes still continues to be my favorite tori album. i started listening to her when i was in elementary school. i remember we had a day in music class where everyone could bring in their favorite band/cd and we would listen to a song from everyone's pick. between the mariah careys, boyz 2 men, and will smiths, i had my tori.

Tori's peerless ability to reveal the depth of her soul empowers my belief in humanity. Few understand the sheer brilliance of Tori Amos, it's not really about an esoteric style of music, rather, universal human connection.
Lizzy...I'm most partial to Little Earthquakes (her first solo album)...Under The Pink is also excellent, some say she got "soft" after her baby. Not sure about that, so pretty much take your pick :)
Someone told me to check her out. I have been on youtube doing that. I really like her. What cds of her are the best. Or are all good. If all are good what one schould I start off with?
You need to start at the beginning! Follow her the way she intended it. You will grow with her and become inspired as you hear you words and music evolve!!!
I think those from the 90s are best... later in her career she´s still great but has a bit different style (I personally prefer the former era)... I´d start with the first one - Little Earthquakes and then maybe in the order they were released... it doesn´t matter that much anyway since all of them are just heaven :)
@lizzyvance 'From the Choirgirl Hotel' is a masterpiece. I also like 'Little Earthquakes' and 'Under the Pink', as well as the very last one 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin'. Mind you: she is a truly live performer, she never sings a song in the same way. Try to check the recorded live sessions, where she really gives her best.
the ONLY song that makes my heart beat so fast and gives me butterflies that I'm unable to breathe. Everytime this comes on, it takes me back to a place I don't want to be... and fixes it. Tori is my superhero.
6:14 - a mark of a true artist, when you can cause your audience to fight back tears... I have fought back tears at several Tori concerts, she's just so powerful and raw
I saw Tori in concert in New Jersey the night The Brentwood Butcher "OJ" was on the run with Al Cowlings after not turning his murdering ass in to the police. She was great by the way. That of course was in 1994.
My introduction to Tori was on the Pianos tour when she toured with Ben Folds (also my intro to him--amazing concert). Sadly this was not played (I would have been floored--this song is a religious experience of the highest order!), but the stripped down Tori with just her and the keys was breathtaking, and an incredible introduction to one helluva goddess of an artist.
I had the same problem... lol. I looked up the lyrics. Google is your friend.... :) The song is way lovely though. Regardless if you can't understand what she is saying. :)
earthquakes seem to follow me everywhere. i was born in 1989 big year for earthquakes. toris cd came not to long afterwards. on my 19birthday we had significant earthquake in my town. this song holds a special place in my heart
My best friend died last week and Tori got her through so many terrible times in her short life. This song is particularly poignant to her and we watched her together performing this live with baited breath. We both loved her and I hope Tori realises just how important she is to some people. My best friend will be listening to this wherever she is now, i'm sure.
I'm 34 and this album was so much a part of my life that I, for the first time in years, wanted to hear this song during the dissolve of my "marriage" of my partner and I after 3 1/2 years. It's a bad thing, but so necessary. Next song up:10,000 Maniacs "jezebel" if I can find it.
At first when I heard Tori Amos I hated her! could not stand how she yelled! My first boyfriend listened to her always! It took me breaking up with him, My own Date Rape! and my own Drug adduction to understand how beautiful she is! Everytime I see her in person singing I sit there and Cry! Shes SAVED me many time! Her music has made me into a fine man! and helped me become who i am.
@werafonas I think what vennootje meant is that it doesn´t make much sense coming to somebody´s video only to say you find sb else better... I mean, it´s obvious there are people who prefer other music over tori. but they don´t all come here to say that. similarly, we (as in tori fans) don´t go all over youtube saying we prefer tori to other artists. because there is no point in doing that, even if it is our opinion :)
oh good god me too. i like the version she does of it on the Little Earthquakes vhs (90s) She will always be my fav. My 2 top favs r Golddust and Hotel. But on the Little Earthquakes album, "Tear in your Hand" was my fav song.
Repentance, you're a worthless cunt who is probably an ugly guy dressed up as an ugly girl. Tori is successful and amazing, you're not. Just deal with it and die.
I really like the song but I prefer the recorded version.(I know it sounds shallow) I think that Tori is a bit odd live. And she grows a bit more neurotic every year. Still awesome, though.
I love oddness! It;s just I listen to the CD constantly (it's an ongoing habit)and she always sort of improvises live so I can't keep up with her live while I'm singing. Thinking about making vids for some of her songs that aren't on here. Honestly! They don't have some of the best!!!!!!
I didn't see any girls crying in the video. Where is she? And at any rate, she can't be any more foolish looking than the girl in the audience who was caught blubbering during Sanjaya's performance on American Idol.
At the end of the day, the music is about Tori getting to express herself, and deal with HER demons. She makes money for it, and people who like it buy it. End of story. She's not here to counsel or comfort. She's here to make money to afford to hang out and write more music. Sorry guys, but that's the music biz. The rest of this argument is because some folks don't want to admit that marketing is the practice of creating emotional attachment to products for consumers.
One of the best musical artistes of this generation who has had success despite not selling out or losing her soul. This woman is not just a phenomenal but also a soulful talent who uses her voice for the betterment of hiumanity. God bless you Tori....
I love those little nose ringed gothesque ones who are all teary eyed...*laughs* I am sure their pain consists mainly of mommy and daddy didnt let me use the car wahhh
I'm sorry, but for someone so quick to judge people you don't even know, please use the proper grammar and spelling ("posers"). I may no longer be a teen (I'm not sure how old you are), but teenage years are very rough, no matter what crowd you hang in... don't be so quick to make fun of people when you don't know everything that goes on in their house, or head.
Look, ya piece of crap...I had a very rough adolescence. So just shut your piehole please. These people in the audience are very annoying to me, and I'm sure, many others. I am allowed to call them out for what they are...posers. People who pretend to be this or that because it makes them feel special, or not so alone. These idiots are not worthy of Tori. So please go eff yourself.
Well I am sorry you had a very rough adolescence... it does not make you all-knowing in what goes on in the minds' of other people. Everyone has different ways of expressing themselves, and hate to break it to you, everyone is a "poser" of some sort. We all fall into stereotypes. Besides, if someone wants to feel special, or not so alone, what's wrong with that?
Also, if you haven't noticed, I'm not attacking you, I'm just defending those you're attacking. I'm sorry if you're bitter, but that's no reason to name-call or insult. Oh well... hope things are going better for you now, if not, hope they do soon.
I agree with you. And it is funny this person is complaining about a rough life when all the people he/she is attacking probably had a rough life too. Thanks for sticking up for them/us. :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No, I think a number of them are spoilt adolescent posers who begged mummy and daddy for the tickets to see TORI. And many of them wouldn't give me the time of day because they think me a complete loser when in fact I relate to Tori Amos more than a bunch of her fans who just worship her for whatever reason. But I can actually relate to the things she says and her thought process.
I relate to her on every level as well. But if you feel that way about them...then you should just not care. They aren't worth being angry at. It is better just to focus on what you personally feel and know instead of wasting time thinking about them. I don't mean that in a mean way. I wouldn't waste my time even thinking about it. It makes me feel better not stressing about it. And "I believe that I'm the Devil Bitch" hee hee ;)
I am kind of confused about this argument... I know a lot of "popular," or "trendy" girls who are privately suffering. And I know some girls who seem to not care about some people (like, maybe you?), but it is just because they are going through a lot and are wrapped up in their own heads. Those girls don't even care that much about themselves, so they aren't outgoing/friendly and are seen as bitchy sometimes because of that.
cad, you're a pathetic twat who epitomizes the very thing you attack, so YOU go jump in shark-infested waters you obsessive loser. You're one of those "sociopaths" Tori was talking about.
Tori is just a person... She puts her music out there for people to appreciate in whatever way they can. Everyone is worthy of her music; every person is worthy of appreciating art. Plus, it is better for "bitchy" people to listen to meaningful music. It could emotionally affect them enough to change them in a positive direction. :D
This song reminds me of 10,000 days by Tool.

The audience..looks...odd.

looks like a bunch of teenage poseurs.

So please go eff yourself.
cadmiumblue 5 years ago

Well aren't you just an effing saint.
Go play in shark-infested waters.

Actually, I'm a total bitch, I just don't have any reason to be nasty to you. Oh well.

I agree with you. And it is funny this person is complaining about a rough life when all the people he/she is attacking probably had a rough life too. Thanks for sticking up for them/us. :)

Anyway, it's obvious you're a bitch.
cadmiumblue 5 years ago
I relate to her on every level as well. But if you feel that way about them...then you should just not care. They aren't worth being angry at. It is better just to focus on what you personally feel and know instead of wasting time thinking about them. I don't mean that in a mean way. I wouldn't waste my time even thinking about it. It makes me feel better not stressing about it. And "I believe that I'm the Devil Bitch" hee hee ;)

And the bright side is...she makes money off of them. So in the end, they are screwed. haha.

I am not sociopath. You, however are stupid. Please go play on a busy freeway.

How do you know that they are pretending?
Tori is just a person... She puts her music out there for people to appreciate in whatever way they can. Everyone is worthy of her music; every person is worthy of appreciating art. Plus, it is better for "bitchy" people to listen to meaningful music. It could emotionally affect them enough to change them in a positive direction. :D
