There are villages with the prefix Nea that are Greek speaking -actually greeks that came from Turkey after the Balkan wars. No one in these hellenic states spoke greek before 1832, they either spoke turkish, Albanian, or Macedonian. "Koine" aka greek was introduced to greece in 1832.

The Greeks in Northern Greece are actually the same people as we in Macedonia but because of the brutal and forced assimilation and fear they do not speak their mother language but Greek. I do not speak out of anything else but personal experience traveling there. There are villages with the prefix Nea that are Greek speaking -actually greeks that came from Turkey after the Balkan wars. You have to search far and wide to find actual Greeks with roots in Macedonia deeper than 80-90 years.

First off You are right that the ancient "greek" were only tribes and not greek at all, they were spartian athenian and so on.. The gods that you state are the same gods used by the romans and others in the region with the exception of the names. The other MAIN POINT you should understand is that ancient "greek" language was the language of the educated and learned class. This is the same as the latin was in the later ages and similar to a central language used on the net today "english"

Greece did not exist before 1828, just check any map , it was all states. And Mount Olympus is on the Macedonian land that was taken in 1913, so therefore these gods must have been Macedonian, just like Pella and Most of northern Greece, which was a great port and fertile lands but when taken over by Greece became crap and everybody stopped coming there.
