@LeeHoxton1 I also recommend you other German perspective WW2 films like Stalingrad, Hunde wollt ihr ewig leben? and if you are interested on WW1, All quiet on the Western Front (1979).
@TheUnforgivenRebel Took a look at Die Brucke (the original) Going to download it....I've seen Starlingrad...but without subtitles...Couldn't understand a fucking word of it.. I've got some looking to do now..cheers
P.S. Been looking for alternatives to the recent Speilberg and Gibson drizzle!...I've been post comments on Saving Private Ryan pages, and it seems to have pissed people off lol
The best thing about this movie is the characters really look like they've been fighting for years; Steiner and Kruger both have facial scars, Kern's ear was messed up, etc. That kind of detail is rarely seen.
@toby4700 Yes! They didn't miss those details, usually in movies German soldiers have the Wehrmacht haircut and they are all clean, but in this one you can see how the war really affected on a man's looks.
Cross Of Iron is a superb film, arguably one of the finest anti-war films ever made. It is particularly powerful because it depicts the German soldiers as human beings, as opposed to the usual treatment they receive in Hollywood made drivel, were they are portrayed as robotic dolts. Just like Das Boot, you cannot help but have sympathy for the German soldiers from a purely human point of view. Awesome film!
@LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH I agree but remember the German People are very human & not all of em wanted a war! as usal the politcians did!!! classic movie.....
This is a gem, and there are others.......Saving Private Ryan is exploitation garbage.
