@staggza Thank you for the advance copy of "Shit then, Shit now-the staggza family story"...I loved this book -rich texture of warm hearted stories and delightful tales, I'll tell you what, my neighbors cat had a hell of a good time shitting itself at both ends while using this delightful books open pages as a catch basins for his nightly litter encrusted "no-no bombs"
Don't even remember how I got turned on to the dude, but has always been a favorite. Played organ on " Like A rolling Stone", wrote "This Diamond Ring", jammed with the fantastic Michael Bloomfield, french horn on the opening of "You Can't Always Get What You Want", on and on. A real presence on the scene in the 60's and 70's.
Al and I were music majors at the same college in 1961. School was just too boring and irrelevant for him. He quit after one year. We got our diplomas - he got rich and famous. He now holds a couple of honoray doctor of music degrees and teaches at Berklee School of Music. Read his autobiography Backstage Passes and Back Stabbing Bastards. The greatest thing about Al is that he was always true to himself - back then 50 years ago when I knew him right on through his whole career. Way to go, Al!!
MegaSongwriter7 it IS better than Ray Charles. Among his extraordinary talents Al is an arranger par excellence. I know that his love of strings and horns had to have driven the recording costs up and that he had to haver driven the people at CBS nuts with his projects.
@DustyDale67 Are you insane? Why are you even comparing two greats. They would probably never compare so why are you? Stop comparing people. You can't make one be the other.
Brilliant!! Al Kooper Is One Of The Greatest Artists no one has ever heard of unless you were a 60's listener. Check out Blue Project, Blood Sweat & Tears 1st ' Child Is Father To Man" & Super Sessions w/ Mike Bloomfield & Stephan Stills. All Brilliant as well!!!!

Not better. Just totally a different song and a very relevant cover. Only the melody is the same. Without it, you wouldn't compare...

This is one awesome arrangement-- I think it's better than Ray Charles original...
