I also noticed other then the tire you also didn't keep a very good barrier between you and the driver....your right in the window you should keep some distance
That guy riding with officer seemed to be quite annoying by acting like he knows everything and by pointing out what the drivers doing the police officer could see what she was doing dumbass
Ok, so you're foot's in front of the tire. Still gotta lean in there and see what you can smell somehow! It's been a couple years since any response videos man! Subscribe to my channel, I have a couple private response videos that I'd have to add you to the list to be able to see.
I'm glad that you realized that you foot was in front of the rear tire, although I must confess I have to wonder if you knew it at the time, why you did it much less stayed in that position.
Also on a side note... Personally I try to avoid diagonal approaches at night, I prefer to circle and approach the passenger side.
Aren't ride-a-longs always full of so many... questions though!?! lol
Any particular reason you guys dont use breathalysers/alcolysers over there? Wouldn't it make detection certain and avoid all the crappy conversation :P
@stedon101 PBT's are not admissable in court...What if it were drugs ... Drugs won't show up. An experienced Officer can tell if drinking or drugs are involved very quickly...
@stedon101 Many places (such as where I'm at), using the PBT before the field sobriety tests is a no-no. Defense attorney's like to argue that the PBT readings (which are not admissable in court) swayed the officer into believing someone was drunk. Stupid I know, but that's the way attorneys think sometimes. You're supposed to use PBT to verify your field sobriety test results, not the other way around. Just food for thought.
I am a police officer in Colorado Springs, CO and I do believe that he should have checked the DL just in case. Even if the defendent is calm and relaxed does not mean he/she does not have a warrant or suspended DL. Sometimes a person will not even know they have a suspended DL or a warrant for something as small as failure to appear in court. Other than that, not a bad stop.
except for the fact that he took a diagonal approach to the vehicle, didn't check the trunk, stood right against the driver door , bent down to look in the window, everything from a tactical standpoint was incorrect....othre than that...not a bad stop
you approach it diagonally at night because the spotlight is in the drivers eyes and you dont want to cross that light or you can go around behind your squad to the passenger side
You all will be happy to know that I changed the title of this video. Of course, there's no such thing as a routine stop. When you start treating any police work as "routine" you put yourself and others at risk.
What was the electronic sound from 2:41 on to the end, and earlier in the video? Btw, I am ot a cop, I have no training as a cop, but I think you made a good decision based on how you were already responding to another call. You seem like a good cop, i think.
and who says WE arent cops? Im an explorer and ive been thru training, and on 17 ride alongs...and have been around cops my WHOLE life...my whole fam is basically cops....so i know these things...dont be too quick to judge.
not to down explorers, cause i've done that, reserves, have a criminal justice degree and now full time. but they are just kids with toys, reserves get little respect to and they do all the work a full timer does with no pay. keep it up though, it's an uphill battle
Haha. I love it when people go on youtube and tell real police officers how to do their jobs.
He's been through the training, he's had experience, he knows what he's doing.
My guess for him not checking her license is A: she had a valid reason for doing what she did B: she wasn't freaking out or denying anything and C: the officer had better things to do, like finding real people under the influence. He didn't want to be holding her up.
i woulda told her to put the vehicle in park- looks like she wasnt and just had her foot on the brake. also the gun was too close to the drivers side! shoulda adjuster your stance!!! and aren' you supposed to get the ID before you talk about the reason for stop? and did u check her ID to make sure she was valid??
As a do agree with most everything you say here, and I assume you have had training here, which I haven't (But soon hope too, wish me luck in the Interview), but wouldn't it be better to get the ID first that way when you tell them why you stopped them and they try and take off running, atleast you have some details.
bad officer saftey. he leaned in toward her. touching the trunk is only optional. other than that: outstanding video. finnaly a video without a cop getting shot. makes my day to see safe traffic stops.
NYStrroper01, From what I believe, you are not yet a Trooper, you are only a MP? You can say bad officer safety all you want, but you need to realize you were speaking to or about a superior officer, or an officer that has been around a bit longer than you. I lean in towards people I pull over all the time to check for the smell of alcohol or any other narcotics. The deputy or officer did great. Nothing more and nothing less, and at least he admitted to the only mistake and noted that.
It's all good, detective. just personally, i wouldn't lean in becuz of a possible weapon. instead of using the whole sence of smell, i listen for slurred speech even though they don't always have it. ever cop has their own way of doing it. thanx for ur opinion, fell LEO. God Bless
yes, detective i kno i'm an mp. i respect the officer completely, but i was only making a statement about wat i observed and wat i've be trained to do. personally would never lean into it becuz of a possible weapon. i would just use my ears to check for slurred speech. i agree with you that he did great. thanx for ur opinion, Det.
The right side may be safer in your opinion. Now you put yourself in a LEO's shoes, wouldn't it be quicker if the guy or girl needed to be pulled out if you were on the drivers side? I see no need to go on the passenger's side, they are no longer on a major highway and are at a basic T intersection, so there would be no cars traveling at a high rate of speed.
In Ohio, the indicator was the driving to give her an FST. She was using something that night. Even if she was a sleepy driver, I personally would have taken that on off the road.
I don't think so. The user interface is home grown I believe. I'm sure there's some commercial software under there somewhere but I've never heard it called Tiberon.

Not in this case....
if he went to the passenger side, he would be down in the grass, further away from his drivers seat, if she sped off.
It is also not as well lit, because his cruiser is up on the road, (where it won't get stuck) so the most well lit area is the drivers side...
Also it is easier to take control of the situation, if he went down into the grass then the driver could just jump out and run...
There is no traffic so he is pretty safe on the left.
damo1128 3 years ago
that is completely up to the officer, and seeing those current road conditions and traffic, i agree with the officers choice.
