We grew up in the early '90s listening to music made by people 20-30 years before us, but we never waited for a cover to come out. We just discovered it, without the aid of the Net. It's pathetic that the original creators of the lyrics AND the melody are criticised coz someone sat on his ass and made a cover.

This version also happens to be instrumentally superior, in my opinion. The instrumentals also give a sense of the emotion in the song, but it's mostly woven into the writing.

In this version, I feel like its a kind of sadness that has been going on for so long that it has numbed over, like they have come to terms with it, like they have excepted that life isn't always fair or what they wanted. In Gary's version, it is more for a shocking, overhwhelming sadness that occurs at one period in time, as seen in Donnie Darko. They are both brilliant in their own ways.
