'FELA' is now here in London, and has a hell of a lot more positive reviews, you know why?...Because NIGERIANS/AFRICANS are very much part of the production! AFROBEAT without the 'AFRO' e.g...AFRICANS, is just farcical!!!
And don't deceive yourself....AFROBEAT IS NIGERIAN!
SEUN i am so sorry to hear your comment about your father First thing First he is bigger than broadway and your Big brother would have been a better person for that role. When i was going to the SHRINE in the 70 s,AFRO BEAT means AFRICAN BEAT and a lot of original FELA fans were furious that he let that lady sandra sing that song called upside down. HE CALL HIMSELF ANIKULAPO because the GOVT try to suppress his message to all AFRICANS.KUTI in yoruba means won't die just like his music.
You are really emotional. You should not allow your jealousy to make you crazy. Withouth AAs you would not even know his name. First afro beat is Jazz(Black American), Funk (Black American), High Life (Ghanian), with Yoruba rhythms - Afro Beat. If you don't like the production create your own version. Who is stopping you?
@PatsBooks u don't understand my message, first of all i'm never jealous of anybodies lifestyle,i live 10 minutes away from the shrine,go there every week and FELA actually has a nickname for my uncle that he call him ALHAJI ONE BOTTLE.This Great man is Bob marley, michael jackson and martin luther king all rolled up into one single person. He's a great historian that has deep knowledge of world history, especially BLACK PEOPLE's history that has been whitewashed to make us forget our glorious past.
@PatsBooks no hard feelings toward you or anybody,if u have some spare time on your hand go and read the CIVIL RIGHTS CHRONICLE,or OLAUDAH EQUIANO the AFRICAN ,world history from1440 till 1968 then u will have a better understanding of who people like JOHN BROWN was.just because we are were we are right now doesn't mean we don't have a long way to go.did u know that fela and bob marley predicted the fall of apartheid in their songs.listen to WAR by bm and BONN by fela.
@PatsBooks this is where you people go wrong, firstly lets make this clear, we are the ORIGINAL not the dilution of it.. you cant claim what came from us so that is a nonsense,, "funk, jazz " has its origins in west african beats if you hate us so what? get a life.
I dont know but i just get the impression that Seun isnt too pleased with this production and i cant say i blame him.
i wish nigerians had staged this rather than african americans, i have nothing against african americans its just that the whole thing is soo broadwayish and light compared to what fela was and stood for. Also i just cant bear the terrible nigerian accents, but ill still go and see it when it comes to london next month
if you've seen the show they really don't present a cookie cutter version of Fela at all. They don't hold anything back and the show is excellent. And the people handling it are black american and african continent natives.
wake me up here! iam i dreaming? this broadway business stinks...FELA would never stand for this crap i just feel sorry for his legacy cos this is nothing but turning this true legend into some manicured version just to take away from him...i dont care the amount of arguments but i cant swallow this one..i just wanna keep my respect for the family cos the devil is master in deception...
these people got money (that they stole from us) but they have no guidance.cos some line shouldnt be crossed.
@oluwalogbon58 Ore! if Femi had endorsed this I would have more respect, because I'm not being funny but, he was the one in the house NOT on the veranda! He lived with Fela, was groomed by his father, indeed started his music when Fela was STILL alive......Seun came much later! And I agree if Fela were alive there's no way he would've endorsed this rubbish,he wasn't a capitalist, and this stinks of capitalism!
@vixxy02 am just trying to take the high road here.. but of course the aa are now claiming fela is one of them cos they taught him his afro beats apparently ..lol! i knew it wouldnt take long
@oluwalogbon58 Lol! No be that yeye woman talk am?I watched United States of Nigeria on Hi nolly, and she was bragging that SHE opened Felas eyes and that Afrobeat was born in her apartment in New york..I DON'T BELIEVE THAT SHIT!
Fela was a musician and a very talented one at that,so I believe that his genre was totally unique to him based on highlife, and Yoruba traditional form of 'native' music! Nothing about his music sounds remotely American(well maybe the sax..but then a sax is just a sax!)
@vixxy02 this is why i dont have time for these aa . they are already claiming that it is them who taught fela high life music imagine!! these grunts claim everyhthing that isnt nailed down as coming from them and wonder why we ignore them or just dismiss their cretinous nonsense.. i have no time for most of them..waste of space.
@PatsBooks He only let her sing 'cos she was his slave baby jump off! Nothing to be taken seriously at all! That was his way of humouring the little yankee whore!
@PatsBooks dont care if you live on the shrine itself .. look into the mirror because YOUR JEALOUSY OF AFRICANS is so apparent.. thanks for the compliment.. lol

Jealousy is so ugly. The reason he let her sing in the shrine I am sure because she was more than some good booty.
