you guys are retarded. This commercial wasn't saying the army used macs, but rather was talking about an outdated, but still in effect, classification of super computer. The US government restricted the selling of "super computers" (at the time) to certain countries. Everyone knew the G4 wasn't actually a super computer, and the restrictions were revised shortly afterward, but the commercial is clearly tongue-in-cheek.
haha, if they did their research before spewing out another worthless ad they'd know that the US army (aswell as nasa) uses what they call PC (windows)...
A longtime ago, in the time of that ad Apple cannot export this machine because it was the 1st computer with 1Teraflop and it is considered a supercomputer capable to control a missile, and a weapon. And it was true so Apple made this ad, until get the law reviewed.
I thought youd be interested to know i got a G5 PPC mac running a current system and its very fast and has current apps on there 2 and 4 gigs of ram.@Nintendavin
@ProjectZro Unfortunately, I don't think anyone realizes it even now, except people who actually know a thing or two about computers.
I've tried explaining it to a lot of people MANY times and they're just like "Nuh-uh, PC's are Windows computers".
There's WinPC's (PC's with Windows), Macs (PC's with OSX), etc, and PC's in general (Personal Computers), but they won't admit it because all they know is shitty, misleading Mac vs. PC commercials lol.
Only a true tech/music geek can appreciate this ad. First off, it is about the world's best company's nearly best product. The G4 was the best processor ever made in my opinion.
Plus, it has the theme for the Great Escape (Its a movie from 19-something) as its background song! I do love this ad :)
I own a 450Mhz Sawtooth and a dual 533Mhz Digital audio. Also own a 1.25Ghz G4 eMac. Plus a 600Mhz Graphite iMac and a 600mhz Ruby iMac (motherboard swap). I love to collect vintage Macs and pc parts. My favorite is my Graphite. They all work great and have been upgraded in some way or another. When I get more room I plan to double my collection. What do you own?
Still my all time favorite Apple ad. Just before the release of Private Ryan and Myth the Fallen Lords WW2 mod, July of 1998.

the fact that they are using old patton tanks to demonstrate instead of abrams tanks is proof that apple uses outdated hardware.

The only time Apple truly did have different computers than PC's.
God Bless Power PC processors... Aside from the fact that they're quite slow.

wow I hope when they made this they realized that macs are PC's (personal computers) its the OS they are supposed to brag about.
ProjectZro 2 years ago 11
It's the processor that apple is bragging about in the ad. not the OS.
appleinfl 2 years ago
@ProjectZro back then macs had better cpus than Windows PCs as well. You can hear at the end he says "Pentium PCs, well, they're harmless

PC typically refers to an IBM-compatible computer (i.e. it is x86 compatible). So whilst the computer in this ad isn't a PC, modern Macs are.

@ProjectZro The term PC is actually THE term used for a machine running anything but Mac OS.

@seinfeldfan7898 No PC technically means personal computer, but pop culture has changed the meaning to mean everything but Apple

i own a 400GHZ G3 imac and a 600MHZ ibook.
i just ordered a 733MHZ quicksilver powermac
and i hope it's alot faster than the G3's i have owned lol.
PowerMacUser 3 years ago
I like the quicksilver's definite improvement over the G3. The AGP bus over the PCI bus makes video so much better.
Num1shark 3 years ago
Go eMac! I've got the exact same model, it ROCKS!
And I've got the same iMac G3 as you! how crazy!!! Graphite/600!
I wish I had the money for a PMG4, but I'm getting a PBG4 12" 1.5GHz 1.25GB RAM, so it will replace my 1GHz 512 RAM iMac G4.
PowerPC G4ever!
