Actually, Talibans cut off hands of farmers who made opium, before War in Afghanistan. The Talibans were trained by US Military to fight Russians (Russians were occupants of Afghanistan that time). And then, the war with russians was over, russians lost. No heroin production thanks to talibans. What happens next? US attacks Afghanistan, kills Tablibans. No one cuts hands anymore. Opium is being made. Heroin market is big again. That are facts, not personal opinions.

Of course the HCLU did not intend to "spread terrible lies" about the Afghan people - we have very good allies and friends in Afghanistan who fight for a human drug policy. The video points out that there is a relationship between an Islamist militia group that engages in terrorism and the opium trade. According to the UN World Drug Report 2010 a conservative estimate placed the figure at US$125 million/year in profits for Taliban insurgents (p. 48).

it is true that the taliban tried to stop opium production when they were in power because of islamic beliefs, but since they've been ousted from power and relegated to certain regions where they can still maintain a support structure, they have turned towards the opium trade as a means to make money. it is a difficult situation, and it is noted that this 90% of the world's opium supply number is coming from the UN who are prob embellishing to serve their own interests.

In fact the Taliban stopped the opium production in Afghanistan. Before the taliban regime it was very high. After the war it is now back on. So it is the US and Nato troops that patrol the afghan opium fields now. And the trafficking? The90% of the worlds opium cannot be exported by individuals from a locked country. only by caravans of guarded trucks.
