@onecunningfox - I'm pretty sure the A380 can handle crosswinds. They wouldn't put out a plane onto the market that can't land with crosswinds. Plus, they go through a hell of a lot of tests. Just search on YouTube if you don't believe me.
It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's the Australian Flying Whale! Yipee! Watch the oversized Airbuster become overtaken by crosswind potential...I wonder how autoland would help in a fifty-knot crosswind? That'd be different.
Thanks for comments here. TV NZ have rated it on their news as an aborted landing. I haven't been in the cockpit or the tower either. So unfortunately, I am not in the position to confirm - however, the plane was really low and you could hear the engines reving up when the plane took off again!
good thing wellington airport is too small to allow a 747 to land there with those crazy winds

It's called going around. It happens many times every day, at airports all over the world. It is standard operating procedure for a missed approach.

I'd hardly call it an aborted landing the aircraft must have been at 1000-1500ft as it flew over!

no it definitely was an aborted landing, you can tell because just at the beginning, the landing gears are retracting, after going down for landing.

It wasn't a aborted landing. It was just doing a pass, which it was supposed to when it took off, but there were too many planes landing at the time.
