  • I'd hate to be in this game...

  • this was like the dark souls of the old generation.

  • Gawd I loved this game, it was SOOOO hard though.

  • Looks like he wasn't that immortal after all.

  • Oh wow, I totally forgot about this game. I used to play it back when I was in the 3rd grade. Good times.

  • Dat bassline.

  • Man I bet that game was a pain in the ass

  • 1:54

    -flashback to amnesia:the dark descent-

  • @TheCrimsionFlash

Although one could say, Amnesia gave them a flashback to The Immortal.

  • Does anyone know how is this particular song called? I searched The Beyond OST for it and the closest I found was "Verso L'Ignoto" but this version is a bit more fast-paced, I think.

  • @Archimonde259 Nevermind, found it.

  • this game is awesome, but very hard.

  • Dear god 1:33 is horrible. Most of these are like fucked up deaths you'd see in The Mummy, or Indiana Jones. I love it!

  • I guess the joke was that "the inmortal" keeps dieing all the fucking time.

  • This game was created by the guy who started IMVU. What a sadist ;)

  • @MagnumBullets47 How that shitty game came into light on this video?

  • I know wizards are supposed to be squishy, but this guy must be the squishiest wizard EVER!

  • @Archimonde259 Not to mention how he's not a very good wizard. What kind of wizard still needs scrolls and books to perform magic when he has a freakin' staff?

  • Gandalf gets owned

  • Dead Space before Dead Space?

  • when i was little this used to scare the shit out of me. especially the music

  • Really good song to accompany this video

  • This needs all the wizard kills of the trolls and goblins too. It'd be PERFECT

  • The immortal is best in Sega Mega Drive than in NES...

  • GamesRadar

  • 1:04 DEAR HOLY GOD the uncomfort level!!!

  • This game reminds me of Shadowgate for the NES, you died horrible and stupid deaths in Shadowgate, only you couldn't actually see it, you had to read the text and use your imagination, which was surprisingly effective.

The Immortal takes away any small creative thinking freedom you might have and shows you how the fuck you get owned, its like getting whiplash in a car wreck, its so bad, but its so great, you know? lol.

  • DEAR GOD!!!! THIS IS JUST ABOUT THE MOST DISTURBING GAMES I'VE EVER SEEN.THAT IS THE MUSIC THAT I'M GOING TO HEAR WHEN I DIE.

  • some immortal, eh?

  • What the hell? This game is too hard to finish...

  • Mages always need a tank to keep up the distraction, otherwise you see what happens? You get double-fried by a dragon.

  • Anytime I hear the OST of The Beyond, this is the first thing that comes into my mind. Awesome!

  • 2:43, And the Trogdor comes in the NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!

  • @NinjaGhostScorpion And one more for good luck.

  • Immortality is not the same as Invincibility. has no one watched the Highlander? you can still be injured, its jsut now you have to live with said injuries FOREVER unless you're killed off. you jsut dont die naturally.

  • at 0:39 OH GOD MUSHROOMS *melts*

  • who is immortal now HUH?

  • I remember getting to the last part of the game, but I never beat it.

  • The NES version of this game kicked my ass when I was a kid!

    \8-o

The graphics were great, though. And the level design was insanely clever. Also insanely difficult, but definately clever.

  • If you look closely at the death by giants one from 0:51 to 0:56, it looks like one giant kicked you to the other, then the other kicked you back to the first one, then the first one stomps you.

  • Hardest Game Ever!

  • Amazing game and tricky as hell in some parts. Amazing effort on the Megadrive. Some choice animation. A new Immortal would be fucking ace.

  • I like 2:18, the monster is like: you get back down here, yoink.

  • The bit at 1:47 is really well animated.

  • loved this game when i was 11 or 12. Thanks for posting.

  • one of the hardest games I ever played, searched for cheat codes day 1

  • That game looks AWESOME!!!!!!

  • @Jawarib1

Yea, Sega sucks because of this EA game.

And now sega no longer makes hardware only software.

    Your argument fits perfectly :)

  • For that wizard being immortal, he sure died alot!

  • FATALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... maybe mortal kombat stole the fatality's ideas from this game...

  • It took me 5 years to find this stupid ass game and I am so happy I did I had so much fun with this game as a kid man I used to sneak and play it when my dad wasn't around and i loved the gore in it and how much it scared me with the music and random shit that would pop out and kill you haha

  • I remember playing this game when I was about 7 and it scaring the shit out of me!

  • cool

  • LMFAO couldnt stop laughing at the begginning because i remember i kept getting killed by those damn worms and though tthe game was a joke

  • In some ways, these deaths are far worse than anything in a modern gore-fest game... I love it. :)

  • wow some of these deaths can be disturbing

  • this game killed my father. and raped my mother.

  • Cool looking game. Shame I can't last more than a minute :)

  • i tried to play this game when i was young... i failed! now i'm ttrying t play through it again, and i STILL can't figure it out :x

  • rofl at 1:52 i love how he is trying to get away in panic

  • 2:15 Whew! Made it... AW GODDAMMIT!

  • I remember playing this as a little one..this game is great & deserves a sequel...

  • 1:52 I was laughing the whole time! It's just priceless.

  • I would do anything to see a sequel, just as hard if not harder, and just as chilling. WITH BLOOM.

  • You gonna say "shit would be so cash" too? =P

This game was fun, too bad I needed a guide in order to get further in it lol.

  • This game is too gruesome ._.

  • What happens if you drink an alcohol in spider level?

  • @MaijinMando i guess you die

  • @Naverpace But how do you die? Do you wobble drunk and spiders get you or alcohol itself is dangerous?

  • @ryancruey

Its Fabio Frizzi's score to The Beyond

  • Apparently the evil wizard from the last kill is a Scanner.

  • some of these are way 2 gory

  • Too gory? Are you kidding? This, for one, is a mature game for mature people.

  • Gamesradar told me to come here..

  • Me too.

  • YouTooHuh....

  • Awesome, and oddly creepy.

  • Perfect. This song and game will forever be etched in my mind as two inseparable things. It fits. Like a glove.

  • *shudders*

  • The animations really are the shit! Even by todays standards they look still awsome!

  • I gotta say this is a scary game, even scarier with all the deaths

  • The music sounds like something from Fabio Frizzi's soundtracks for Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead and Beyond. The soundtracks to these movies are very similar, re-using sections at times, if I recall correctly. I can't find my copies of the soundtracks, but I have a clip from the City of the Living Dead soundtrack called "Paura e Liberazione" that sounds a lot like this song. Great song, at any rate. Fabio Frizzi is up there with Claudio Simonetti, in my opinion.

  • now that was creepy with the added music it was over the charts

  • epic

  • lol I remember when I played this when I was a kid for my first time and that worm got me and I was like WTF WAS THAT?

  • Really gruesome...

  • 0:40

I still can´t understand clearly why the wizard died in that? He melted cause of spores probably?

  • he died because the spores are poisonis

  • what was the song? I really liked this!

  • Head explodie!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting. Some of my fondest memories ever.

  • 3:15 is just... mindtuck

  • That one at 0:53 was pretty funny, he got kicked and stomped to death

  • yeah im one of few brazilians too that completed the whole game, such a hard task.

  • Haha, olha os idiotas se auto-proclamando uns dos poucos do Brasil a completarem o jogo! PQP, cada lezo que aparece aqui...

  • I`m one off the few Brazilian that has completed this game. Its a HARD ROCK GAME until today! This is the most DIFFICULT game that i have ever completed. Awesome!

  • And that's why the wizard needs to be backed up by fighters, rogues and clerics in D&D.

  • @ssfsx17 THIS IS ALSO WHY GIANT SPIDERS SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO VOTE

  • I got to Mordimer, I failed to place "Stature" in time, though I did live through the dragon.

  • Wow...graphic.

  • this game was awesome even though I didn't get past the second stage.

  • I remember the back cover of the cartridge box having the words: MEET YOUR MAKER.

Yep you definitely will many times over when you play this.

  • this game pissed me off sooooo much

  • The title of the game 'The Immortal' actually refers to the old man electrocuting, and blasting you in the last 3 deaths. The Wizard Mordimer, HE is the games namesake.

  • i remember playing this game, i totally forgot the name of it until just now. It was so difficult, but so awesome!

  • The animation is stunningly awesome!

  • He melted. :P

  • Damn...didn't know they had blood and gore during that time...

  • Are you kidding? This was the generation that got video game ratings put into play. ESPECIALLY games like Mortal Kombat.

  • Not so much of a Immortal, hun?

    Great Graphics.

  • suprisingly graphic for its time...

  • 1:52 it's funny xD

  • and it fits perfectly with the benny hill theme ='D

  • The immortal my ass.

  • @ThreeEyedPea I'm pretty sure the title, The Immortal, refers to Mordamir, the master wizard exploiting his students to get them to die for him who wants the fountain of youth for himself. Of course he dies too, but only after you can take his amulet away from him.

  • The last death was epic.

  • UUUUGHHHHHHHHHHH the one where he gets covered in millions of baby spiders still gives me nightmares

  • and orcs and enemies deaths?

  • Good game. I owned the NES version back in the day. Despite it being a short game it took me a long time to finish, since there were no walkthroughs back then.

  • Holy shit, this game was graphic for its time.

  • @kkeelan It's graphic even to this day.

  • too scary game love it !

  • Caray!!,, hay varias formas de morir ¿como rayos se sobrevivia en ese juego?

  • I liked the spooky piano music, it goes really well with the video. :)

  • We have spontaneous man-eating worms bursting through stone, and you're concerned about unlikely gas spores?

  • This was WAY better than the NES version. I hated the NES version, it had too many fucking bats that did way too much damage. I mean come on! They're bats for christ sake. They should not be able to defeat you! I am glad there are no bats in the Genesis version. It's a lot better off without them.

  • My God, I haven't seen these animations since I was 12. I loved this game, these death animations have been forever etched on my memory! Only regret: I can't find the Apply IIGS version, which had better music! Thanks for the up.

  • 00:48

Wizard: I'm tired of climbing ladders! Let'S try a different way... Wheeee~

  • That spider has stayed with me my whole life.

  • This is brutal. But i loved this game.

  • The Wizard you think you're trying to save is after the waters of eternal life which is where the game gets its title from. Problem is in order to get to the water someone skilled in magic has to read that amulet and die. He has you do all this to show your adept.

  • @MechagirlSachiko: You're kind of right. Invunrable or Invincible means it is physically impossible for the character to die. Immortal just means impossible to die of age, or impossible to age at all.

  • I love at 2:18 " I made i....FUCK!"

  • Great animation in this game

  • The ones I got most of the time were the worm ones... Specially the big, badass one that eats you whole. <.<

  • amazing animation for that time *¬*

  • Damn I love that music. It's from The Beyond, no? Definitely something Fulci...Either way, it's surprisingly appropriate for this game.

  • EPIC GAME! So bloody hard too. I would never have guessed that the slime turns the gems in to jewels on one of the levels! Excellent gore too. Nice one on posting this classic up.

  • wtf... who would've thought the nintendo version was actually censored XD

  • Nintendo has always considered itself "family-friendly". They mostly tried to avoid content not suitable for children. A kinda company-credo. Also one of several reasons why recent Nintendo consoles suffered in sales, internationally (excluding the Wii, of course). "Cute" characters are not everyone's fave flavor.

  • nothing like a good ol video game death scene. theyre fnny thats y i like em. if anyone noes any others or has any on youtube tell me i wanna watch, and not louischous, i no bout his Deaths, seen them

  • creepy...

  • cool

  • Huh, I've never seen that melting death from the mushroom spores before. I remember the main character doing a choking animation there.

  • That bastard gem puzzle on level 2 was the worst.

I could never figure out the damn combination.

The Impossible they should call this game.

  • I had to use a walkthru in the end as I could not work that level out for AGES! I know the pain you feel lol.

  • I just bought this for Genesis at a game shop by my house. All I have to say is JESUS CHRIST! I've never seen so many "fuck you's" for the player backed into one game. yet, I can't stop playing it.

  • This game is one of the most surprisingly violent games on the Genesis. Some of those deaths still make me cringe...

  • i couldnt get ANYWHERE in this game...although I was 8 when playing

  • This game is mental! So hard, but what a great feeling you get when completing it, despite the crap ending.

  • i remember my dad playing this when i was a really little kid. nostalgia.

  • Awesome graphics and music!

  • This game was the shit back in the day.

Despite what this video might lead you to believe, the violence actually took a backseat to the gameplay and immersive (for its time) graphics. Immortal just oozes style.

And yeah, it's hard as hell. Those of you that are bored and looking for a challenge would do well to set aside an afternoon to beat it; it's worth it.

  • Oh cool compilation jblx3 dude!

  • This game looks like something that would make me destroy whatever controller I was holding after playing a while. Anyhoo, nice video. Good music pick.

  • bem legal.........

  • great game i couldnt get past the first level

  • Should be cross-platform, this original game was.

Of course, that's assuming EA every stops their way of "Purchase Everything" and goes on to making original games again.

  • AAAAhhh! SCANNERS at 3:14 ! Anyone else remember that movie?

  • Will Harvey is one sadistic SOB. what other games did he make?

  • HOLY $@&* i cant beat mordammirs evil lightning blasts and ur good enough to make a video of all the death scenes? (P.S. people the immortal isnt all to bloody except when u fight the dragon....)

  • ...did you forget about every time you fight a goblin? Slice a scalp look at a pulsating brain. POOF his skin fell off! or he melted... or his head popped like a balloon! Freakin awesome and yes it WAS "all to[o] bloody and THATS what made the genesis version PWN and the game amazing!!

  • This is WAY gorier than the NES version.

  • Cool video. What's the music you used?

  • It's music from Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond", great movie & great soundtrack

  • Such a graphic game...I'm disturbed. :P

  • Disturbing game, reminded me of Darkseed.

  • When they called this game the immortal I'm assuming they weren't referring to the main character then.

  • Hahaha. Not the way I was playing it.

  • To Nebagram, who posted a year ago that they probably weren't referring to the main character when the game was titled "The Immortal"...

You know, that you are immortal does not mean you're not killable, just that even when killed, you'll go back to life. The protagonist of this game, indirectly through the stubborn player, will basically do this.

  • In my personal lexicon, "immortal" just means that you can't die of old age or disease...you can still be killed.

  • i couldnt get past the floor worm stage, that worm warning thing would break 10 seconds into the room

  • @30hourpunch

Yeah, the worm state was difficult, but not as difficult as the spider cave, you're levitation spell only works for 30 seconds and then your dinner for the spiders.
