They keep the ecosystem healthy and balanced by efficiently going after the older, sicker and slower prey. Once the sharks are gone, the things they used to eat experience population explosions, putting extreme pressure on their food sources in turn. So this could effect our oxygen, water and food think that is a little more important than some money since shark are already overfished!

@HomeMadeGunNut They are because less than one percent of the ocean is protected, big fish have been killed buy 90-99% and that is overfished. Because we have humans kill between 73-100 million sharks a year
how big was the shark? Makos are among my favorites and what do they taste like

Usually 20-50 miles.

It was a charter so they took it home. I think they sold most of it and they ate some. We do pretty well out of western Long Island.
