We probably shouldn't pick on the oldtimers/ wearers of brown shoes (i.e., <'62), but, and it's a big but, in those days they had to be easy on the doolies since they were still debugging the system. "They" had it perfected by the mid-60's, hence the peak of difficulty in the 4th class system circa 1966. And that can be seen to this day in the level of excellence reached by most '70 grads.
Pretty neat--but those guys in '59 sure had it easy! They wouldn't have hacked it in the Class of 1970--the best class that ever went through the Academy.
