  • Bike plane ftw.

Plus no one would ever get fat. It probably would never get popular but good try though. I like this video. :-D

  • ground effect much?

  • somebody will do it eventually. you have to consider that there are not any big companieas working on pedal powered flight. they are just not interested. most critics will immediatlly say its impossible

  • @210482fmj "most critics will immediatlly say its impossible"

It was done in 1988. Google for Daedalus.

  • Use a small motor for less energy

  • use an amazing gear system to get the propeller spinning faster

  • @jackvincent90 that would require more power from the person powering it

  • @ziaolol Get a really strong person then.

  • @andmar0401 stronger = more muscles = more weight = requires even more power. No point.

And as you saw, the plane generated enough thrust to be able to get some air, speed isn't the issue. it's fatigue and how our muscles aren't really built for continuous hard work

  • @ziaolol Point taken

  • @jackvincent90 That's what I thought. But the inclusion of such a device could/would drastically increase the weight of the aircraft. The key is to get the thing to be as light as is humanly possible.

  • @pcred566 a carbon fibre transmission or summet? the prop just looks like its spinning so slow, surely they can get it going faster

  • @jackvincent90 Hmm... that's a thought. Perhaps you're right.

  • Using thermals is a good idea until you realise how much the structure has to be strengthened to take the gust loads. A 1.1g pedal powered structure works in still air, but in a vertical gust of 15 mph that's nearer 2.5g, roughly. Gliders in the twenties fell apart in midair for this reason. Airliners are still badly affected , and they are a bit beefier!

  • does any one relise how much this looks like the wright brothers flight

  • how fast in means of mph's do you have to pedal to sustain flight

  • @fsxpilot23 about 17mph. that's difficult even for fit cyclists...more on takeoff. However, something that light can be lifted by thermals - when high enough - reducing the need to about 10 to 5mph - when you get that high. A combined system with a small battery and motor for take off coupled with pedal power would work best then switch it off when high enough. May add too much weight though.

  • Excellente!!!! would love to try this.. This is just one of those projects that would be so much fun and a great accomplishment.

  • Could you buy one of the Mozi Human-powered airplane and if so how much?

  • i hate bikes so i'd hate that even more....

  • Beautiful aircraft!

  • Dear All,

I have a questions about psychology:

    * Why do we want to design and to fly human powered aeroplane while we have jet engine?

I mean that we have been in jet-age already.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • @onethodeepught

Yes, they are cleaner, cheaper and produce no pollution.

What do you think about the following statement?

Human powered aeroplanes are more quiet so that we can enjoy the enviroment of the open sky. They allow us to enjoy the feeling of "flying in freedom" Also, flying human powered aeroplanes is good way to exercise.

  • @applesweeter They produce methane pollution when the pilot eats a plate of beans before takeoff. LOL

  • @applesweeter

Because youre not really flying if you are in a jet. You are hitching a ride on something else that flys. Human-powered flight is closer to what man has dreamed about when observing birds; an animal that relys on itself for flight.

Also, there are other reasons for human powered flight such as getting exercise, its a cheaper craft, no need for constant maintenance of an engine or having to worry about complicated instruments. You can just take off whenever you want.

  • @alexerify1

Yes, I agree. if I can travel to my office everyday with a human power aeroplane, I can exercise and relax my view before working. Also, I can make my colleagues jealous for me.

    What do you think?

  • @applesweeter relax? I hope your in good shape.

  • @EmperorOfMars

Do you mean flying on a human powered aeroplane will help you to relax?

  • @applesweeter I'd get tired to easily.

  • wat is the rpm of the propeller?

    -weight?

    -wingspan?

    -diameter of propeller?

also watare the wings and prop made of?

Thanks ahead of time = ]

  • Good luck!
