I am the first to admit my prejudice. ( hence the ' invidious ' comment )
I am an ordinary citizen in a seriously corrupted society. Where power & influence allows the ' good & the mighty '
to hide the fact that their agents - abused raped & sodomized thousands of Irish children These children's only crime was they were from the working or disenfanchised classes & were powerless both in an economic & political sense.Smart arse comments -
You should say what you think. Your response betrays a ' religeous' bent . Having been in daily contact with the so called ' religeous ' for almost 14 years -
I sense their sick & perverted logic in your brief comments. Speak up - and let's hear you defend the indefencable. jb.
The message you posted struck a cord and drove me to respond, the word I used summed up every thing I wanted to express about the evil of the situation described. I have no doubt the belligerent high ground you took when responding to my comment is driven by anger, this does not give you the right to be judge.
As a young person inappropriately questioned in the confessional box and as now a grown person, I often wonder if my friends were abused. Words very easily distort the true in the message.
I misinterpreted your -one worder-entirely. Just like you - I am incensed over these Church crimes . No other organisation in the world could have got away with what went on in this country . I am an ordinary citizen trying to express my anger but above all my frustration& concern over what happened . I do appreciate that many citizens have very personal & private pain as a result of their dealings with these people . Again my sincere apologies. jb
there was an article in the physical Guardian today about the links between the christian brothers irish nationalism and the government and civil service in Ireland. gerry Adams is an ex pupil
My views though, to hell with Dubai World. It is a perfect example of the abuses of cheap credit. Those banks with large exposure, such as HSBC an Royal Bank of Scotland should sleep in the bed they made. And if the miracle of Dubai turns into one great big shanty town, then good. At least there will be no shortage of new housing for all the slaves that helped build it.
I fear your logic is correct . The Dubai experiment is tainted with bad Karma . Virtual slave labour from the Indian sub-continent & massive leveraged loans are a formula headed for disaster . The Dubai dream may turn into a nightmare yet. Many thanks for the comments. jb.
When the shift away from oil finally takes hold (and it will) Dubai will be like the pyramids in Egypt or the Mayan temples outside Cancun. Massive abandoned structures, vacant million dollar condos and that idiotic palm shaped development will slowly erode just like the hyper-capitalism that put it there.
Life is not much different in the US. People turn away from dealing with evil. I think this is even worse. Apathy is a horrible vice, it is even worse when involving children. A lack of empathy for the suffering of children is the true evil.
Apathy mixed with fear. Peer pressure & fear of being socially ostracised - these were the elements which bought the Catholic Church the silence it demanded . Our media eventually brought these monstrous crimes into the open - but it was a case of being 50 years

Accepted.
Anger, hate, fear lead to the dark side, that is how nations eat other nations.
Truth no matter how unpalatable can only lead to enlightenment.
