Don actually had a brain fart. He said at 1:52 that Van Halen got signed in 1979, which everyone knows isn't true. They actually got signed in 1977 and Van Halen 1 was released in January or February of 1978. No biggie Don, but two years is a pretty big difference though.
I listened religiously to a syndicated radio show, late 80s The Metalshop... recall that you old schoolers? They had Don Dokken come in and talk about the guitar in the early videos... He's comment "I was guitar player in Dokken since Day one, before George, and it was really hard to just put down the guitar and sing vocals, because I am just not the David Lee Roth kind of singer, I'm a guitar player, so it was really hard to put it down and let George play"
hes a smart guy, he does a great interview , hes honest and interesting . yes he lived it , got to give him props 2 that . Hes lasted n they did some pretty good rock along the way . his solo album is pretty damn good to , worth a listen
Don gives props to Van Halen for putting them on the map. Didn't know that. This shit is history being told by someone who was there. Great documentary.
It's not always about talent...It comes down to who you know...Basically connections there are alot of talented people and bands that dont make it because they dont have the right connections.
Ahh those clubs - those were the days - I guess rather than feel older I should be happy I even remember those days *L* .. And all the bands/artists I saw by accident (no really by accident) .. and now we are all grown up with families of our own (and yes we STILL rock *S*)
Wow... I never knew that. I just pulled out my Blackout LP to check for credits and there it is. Special thanks to : Don Dokken (among others). I've had that album for 26 years and never noticed it. I also have the first Dokken LP from 1983 if anyone wants to buy it. I'll take a million dollars for it. :)
check out 17yr old MATTRACH! this kid has built a hugh fan base on youtube, he has 30 originals now with him playing all instruments, hes talented beyond description, hes sponserd by fender, and still unsigned, he has singel handedly made himself a star with just his talent, and his familys computer cam! he is rewritting how you become a star, its his continued ability to write songs that sell, he made 8,000 dollars off his downloads last month, his show n paris tonight is sold out!

Dokken wore a little makeup, but they were more straight metal than Glam imo.
They were a different level than Poison.

@gregoryy2k Yeah, Dokken was actually a good band.

funny how he badmouths Poison a little bit. Dokken was far more talented than the other "glam" bands.

I agree with Don that talent isn't necessarily what will take you to the top but being at the right moment is.

Talent may not get you there, but it is what keeps you there...
