  • I've just come home from La Scala: Domingo gave us an unique and unforgettable Cyrano; singing with his still incredible voice "he actually was" Cyrano. He knows how to give great emotions,he doesn't just sing incredibly well but acts, moves every single person in the audiece and knows how to give you thrills, so..like Tosca used to say: " ECCO UN ARTISTA!"

    There's no one like him!

  • Lucky you!!! I'll go to NY on 10th May. Look forward to her Domingo in The First Emperor. Thank you for video! (and have an ear on my Villazon recordings! I. from Paris PS Had Ramon Vargas yesterday in Luisa Miller... great finale too...

  • lucky you too; On April 30 I'll be in Washington to hear and see Domingo in Hendel's Tamerlano , something very different from his usual repertory, but, after the "discovering"of Cyrano, I'm also curious about Tamerlano since Domingo knows how to make something special of every character.

  • wow!! I was just checking to change my holidays and go to Madrid for Tamerlano start of April. Washington would be great eather. Keep us updated!!

  • Ok !! My plan is April 30th Tamerlano at the Washington Opera and May 31 The Walkirie at the Gran Teatre du Liceu in Barcelona. In the meanwhile have a look at the 1981 Lucia di Lammermoor clips I posted I think they're great!

  • Was this performed at the Met or in England?

  • I saw the opera at Covent Garden London. Everything I saw, the singers, costume and props from even the positions of the sewing frame, stool and chair in relation to tree were identical to what I saw. I know ROH and Met had identical production and main cast. However, the way the camera moved made me think it was not ROH, not possible unless someone had a free run along the front row seats of Grand Tier but I am not good at using cameras. I also do not recognise the greyish/white curtain.

  • Had another look at the video. This is performance is definitely not at Covent Garden. ROH pay attention to the staging and make sure lighting and autoscript are well disguised. Everything seamless. As you can see, the front of the stage is of a very poor standard (around 3:49 and many other times). From what I know of the Met, I don't think it is the Met's stage. The staging is so bad that it cannot be the Met/Covent Garden. However, I have not been to the Met recently.

  • This video is from the Dress Rehearsal at Metropolitan

  • Thank you for solving the mystery. I knew it was definitely not at Covent Garden as I do not recognised the stage front and the grey curtain with white patterns. Also the camera angles make this unlikely. I have not been to dress rehearsals at the Met. Thank you for your help.

  • Bravissimo!

  • Oh fantastic! Such...panache! I saw this five times at Covent Garden and I couldn't get through that scene without weeping buckets. Thank you.

  • Ok. He is great. Onegin, this video was made by you? You were there? Tell us about the performance.

  • What can I say? I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm in tears.

  • Thanks - this is ... *crying*
