@XEXDXWXY Oh dear God don't even mention Hammett and Slash in the same sentence with Hendrix. Page is definitely up there, but Jimi really was in a league of his own.

What's wrong with these people who feel compelled to criticize greatness? My hope is that you would use people like Jimi to inspire yourself to do something great enough to be criticized for it . . .
@imdoubtful Yes, Buddy did come across as a good guy in all of the interviews I've seen with him. That's cool that you met him. Buddy did feel honored to play with Hendrix. I saw him talking about recording Rainy Day Dream Away, etc and he was saying how cool it was to record with him.
@imdoubtful Yes, I do think that Cox was better on the bass however; in my opinion Jimi's first three albums were his best in terms of material and production quality. I thought The Band of Gypsies with Cox was a tighter sounding unit and they recorded a several great songs on the live Fillmore album but I never liked the singing of Buddy Miles. So for me that was detrimental to the band. I would have loved to hear Cox play on the first three albums.
@MrBendorandoran a beard and long hair makes someone Jesus? you must be a person who labels everyone and everything in absolutes like the talking heads of the TV indoctrinators?
I guess the dumbing down campaigns are working according to plan.
i saw Jimi in '69, at Madison Square Garden, Jimi was pissed off at the security and flash bulbs blinding him or maybe just having a bad day. but i am forever grateful for having seen him however brieflyl
I saw the Experience in New Orleans Spring 1967. Noel's band Fat Matress did the warmup. Jimi still wasn't known so much in the US, though he was by then a superstar in Europe. There were only a couple of hundred of us there at his afternoon outdoors concert, but Jimi was incredibly nice! The Experience played for close to two hours. I will never forget it.
U.S.A rulez. !!!! Seit 20 Jahren höre ich jeden Tag die Gitarre von Hendrix, so ein wundervoller Musiker, so ein wundervoller Gitarrist, seine Solo's sind Honig fürs mein Ohr!!
Wow, Jimi playing an actual left handed Gibson Flying V guitar. To me Cox was such a better bass player than Redding. He played real bass parts as opposed to guitar parts like Noel Redding did and he was much tighter sounding with the drums. Don't get me wrong though, the stuff Noel did on the albums sounded fine for the songs. Although it makes me wonder what all of Jimi's albums would have sounded like with Cox instead.
@spyguys man thats ridiculous the original experience was not lacking because of cox' absence... no one even if they can make a overkilling of something can out do the creator of a thing period!
@ColdSlyther If you read my post you'll see that I said Noel played just fine on the albums. I was just wondering what the original band would have sounded like with Cox instead. I never said the albums were lacking.
@FXPedaldotCom Hendrix played bass parts on some of the songs but Noel played a lot. When they were recording Elecrtic Ladyland Redding walked out of the session and Jimi played a bunch of the bass parts. When I watch and lsten to Noel play live, I can tell that he was adequate but not a great bass player. He tended to overplay and his tone was poor on a lot of live recordings. He was really a guitarist. As a whole though, the JH Experience was a fantastic band and Noel Redding did just fine.
@spyguys yeah noel redding basically was a fill in for bass, he was mainly a guitarist that wanted to play rhythm for jimi but was pushed down to bass.
@spyguys Redding overplayed a lot and had a poor sense of rhythm. He thought he was the star which was a delusion that could not be tolerated by Jimi.

Some guitarists in recent years have criticized Jimi for making "too much noise and not enough music" but of course he switched gears, as seen in this video, and just played straight out without making all the sound effects like he did at Monterrey. You can see clearly he had his own melodic sense. He was not just a "noise maker."

p.s in closing maybe someday there will be a better ,comprehensive maui film open the vaults EH instead of the same rehashes!!!!!! also thanks for sharing this footage no matter your age you will be enlightend by this particular show
once again excellent performance of jimi ,why hasn't this already been commercialy released? I have seen this footage years ago through fellow collectors, also enough out takes and different angles exist of both shows . there could be enough for documentary janie hendrix will never wake up and give the fans what I consider essential jimi
The song history is quite interesting! A song about Hennys girl who after Jaggers finger was cut grabbed his hand and sucked the blood to stop the flow.
@CHUCKLOVES1969 Saw him at the Bowl too. Opened for the Mamas and the Papas! just after Monterey, in 1967. It was a lot like his set at Monterey. Wow.
Most people talk about H's guitar playing, natch, the best ever...
BUT...
even if he was "just" a song writer and not a guitar player....he would be for the ages for his song writing alone. Right....????
AND
He was an awesome singer, unbeatable....Really!!
AND performer!!!!
That he had all 4 going on at that level is beyond comprehension
the studio song..in the solo...when it shifts from left to right on stereo...MAN! hope to see you in the afterlife jimi, and then we smoke a joint or two
EVERYONE knows who Jimi Hendrix is, people know the name more than they know The Beatles, I wonder what he would have thought about this?? People still loving him in 2010??... makes you think :)
Oh no, I didn't mean that as a comparison :) The Beatles are my favourite band, I was just using that to show how famous he is, not to say that he was better than The Beatles :) You're right, both amazing!

@jantsik112 ....Iknow how ya feel...I was born in 58 and I started liostening to J,H, when I was 13, and was ready to go see him as soon as he came to my city, or state, and then he died....I still haven't gottin over it....I just mised him, and if I was granted one wish in life to see my hero, it would've been Jimmy over family members....
Thanks for posting the song......cheers all......

once again excellent performance of jimi ,why hasn't this already been commercialy released? I have seen this footage years ago through fellow collectors, also enough out takes and different angles exist of both shows . there could be enough for documentary janie hendrix will never wake up and give the fans what I consider essential jimi

The song history is quite interesting! A song about Hennys girl who after Jaggers finger was cut grabbed his hand and sucked the blood to stop the flow.

whats with the mic?
hummer14455 1 year ago
@hummer14455 Noise. Crappy mics in those days
had to be muffled heavy for feedback. With that wind
blowing there'd have been nothing but screech without
it.

3 questions...and listen..i saw hendrix twice
once at the hollywood bowl..(which sucked cause we were so far)
and the other time..about 30 feet away at Devonshire Downs in LA.
a three day huge concert...
who was in this line-up....
what year an month
and what the fuck is doing with that weird guitar..instead of his strat?
CHUCKLOVES1969 1 year ago
@CHUCKLOVES1969 Saw him at the Bowl too. Opened for the Mamas and the Papas! just after Monterey, in 1967. It was a lot like his set at Monterey. Wow.
Most people talk about H's guitar playing, natch, the best ever...
BUT...
even if he was "just" a song writer and not a guitar player....he would be for the ages for his song writing alone. Right....????
AND
He was an awesome singer, unbeatable....Really!!
AND performer!!!!
That he had all 4 going on at that level is beyond comprehension

EVERYONE knows who Jimi Hendrix is, people know the name more than they know The Beatles, I wonder what he would have thought about this?? People still loving him in 2010??... makes you think :)
MoLLyTiShxx 1 year ago
your comparison is like apples to oranges ..both are great bands......
briarhillgirl 1 year ago
Oh no, I didn't mean that as a comparison :) The Beatles are my favourite band, I was just using that to show how famous he is, not to say that he was better than The Beatles :) You're right, both amazing!
