  • Hes so right clash of the titans was a pile o' shite

  • Jackson's King Kong was still good and better than the Titans Remake

  • Such an awesome guy. I bet he's a fanboy like the rest of us.

  • @jwhaler82 Well of course he is, the original Kong inspired him to go into stop motion. the problem with the Clash remake is they changed the story of the original film too friggen much. I mean Jesus Io instead of Andromeda? What ever those Jin things are that look like rejects from Babelon Five. The Medusa scene that seemed more fitting for a God of War video game.

  • Stopmotion most certainly does add to the "nightmare quality."

  • Nothing wrong with remakes, as long as the filmmakers do something interesting and new and don't just rehash the original film. That's why the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD rocked and the remake of PSYCHO sucked.

  • This is why they shouldn't have remade A Nightmare on Elm Street. Wes Craven thought the exact same thing.

  • i watched the original Clash of the Titans in 6th grade

  • I AGREE with Ray. Tehy REMAKE things because they have no IMAGINATION!

  • The original King Kong is miles more entertaining than the more recent remake, I think even Peter Jackson would probably agree with that.

  • Don't worry Ray, Yours is still better...

  • AUGGGHHHHH!!!!! Why did Warner Bros. remade Clash of the Titans! That remake was a joke! Even Liam Neeson and Ralph Finnes could not save that film! That's how bad it was!

  • I Agree With Him!!!!

  • King Kong was basically a fan film by modern Kong fans. Clash of the Titans was just a pointless cash-grab. It's obvious they didn't care about the original at all. If you make a film on a book or another film, make sure you're a fan, and you understand and appreciate the original work. Otherwise, ti's just a waste of time and money, such as the Clash of the Titans remake.

  • I think they should cut out that remake crap. I mean, the remake of Clash of the titans was pretty good in some spots, but come on! Why don't you make something else, like a more myth-loyal version of Heracles? (if they do it, I sure hope it's better than that piece of shit disney vesion)

  • I was unpleasantly disappointed with the Remake of this picture from the CG I

to the cast. Sam Worthington was a burnout and is rumoured to be the nxt 007

James Bond due to Daniel Craigs busy scheduled and age. God help Us!!

  • I AGEE WITH RAY WHY DO THEY REMAKE CLASSICS FUCKING ASSHOLE HOLLYWOOD I HOPE THEY ALL GO OUT TO LUNCH FOREVER JUST LIKE MGM

  • currently writing a 2000 word essay of Harryhausen.

  • As a 3D artist, and Harryhausen admirer, I can honestly say that I cannot stand the amount of CGI used in movies today. A scene is ALWAYS going to look better when there is something tangible for the actors to interact with. CGI should be used sparingly to enhance a scene, not create one.

  • To be fair there are some things that I don't mind with CGI. Lord of the Rings used it but never went over $100 million like other projects and had enough real things to back it up. Tron was set in a computer so it made sense. King Kong was okay. Jackson's CGI (except Last Bones) can look frightening with the bugs and all, but they did overdo it and the original still beats it. Technical limitations can enhance creativity and fantasy is about suspension of disbelief. CGI ruins that usually.

  • He's right. Back when I was in 7th grade we studied Greek myths and watched the Medusa sequence he did. It was so atmospheric and creepy. She had too much free movement in the remake and didn't look nearly scary enough while the old one was hideous and moved liek a half snake woman (in that version anyway) would. Now granted in adventure films the acting isn't always as great as the effects, but the story held up far better. CGI if done well can look good, but stop-motion is far better.

  • The only good thing about remaking the film is that more young people (liike myself) can find out about the older films.

  • The original COTT was much better, with reason number one being a lack of Bobo the mechanical owl. :P (Apart from the cameo, which was quite hilarious though.)

  • Don't worry Ray. COTT remake wasn't a patch on yours in my book. Your medusa was specifically scarier

  • The strobe in stop motion does not matter as long as the character is tangible. Besides, it's more fun to create. You can't do it all with computers even if you can.

  • HE'S RIGHT ON (with his work.)

No One should have ever done a re-make of his magic.

God love him... His visions & hard artistic work!

    A PIONEER.

  • Mr. Harryhausen, I want to know what you think of it.

  • Wonderful to see the master comment. The Clash of the Titan's remake does't even spit on the shoelace's of the original. And I'm not even a huge Titan's fan. The Story . the Character's , the Heart , , the fun. None of it there , . . like the original.

  • Ray Harryhausen hes the BEST and my hero!!

  • There isn't such a character as Calybos in the original Perseas's myth.I doubt if Calybos even exists generally in Greek mythology!

  • @chrischris958 dont forget the kraken is norse mythology

  • Yes,you're absolutelly right!

  • one good reason to remake this film would be to tell the myth more accurately, calibos was never a myth and was only created for the film , theres too many flaws to mention, i think if peter jackson put his mind to making movies about all the greek myths they'd never need to be remade

  • I'm Greek actually and i must say that the original myth of Perseas is quite different than this movie's version!

  • @chrischris958 agree , its a shame hollywood screw with the truth when they make films , i know they cant just make a film the same way you write a book cos it wouldnt look so good but when they make up crap .. like calibos for example .. it just ruins the myth that was already interesting enough

  • @chrischris958 You're right. The 1981 movie version is way more heroic actually, in the actual myth Perseus doesn't want to use Medusa's head to save Andromeda first, it's just an ego trip of the king Polydectes. And he keeps his invisibility helmet and just beheads Medusa while she's sleeping, then he flees with winged sandals ... Greek heroes are often depicted as one-dimensionnal characters in movies, that's a real shame.

  • stop montion is terrifying, terrifying to watch im sorry but its just plain aweful i tend to like a more realistic look in the way things move, since when have animals move in a jerky manner like thee off southpark??i cant believe all the morons jumping on this bandwagon

  • the original is a great classic, the new one should be cald ''Clash of the TOILET'' because the remake sucked so much that I allmost puked.

  • He's terribly right about Stop-Motion vs CGI.

  • I said exactly what he just said and with the same amount of shock he had when he heard about the remake.

Hollywood can't come up with their own Ideas so they rip off others fine work. I HATE CGI I REALLY HATE IT! George fucked starwars now Hollywood HAS fuck Clash of the Titans, everyone I have spoke to about both films say the original is the best!

  • Ray Harryhausen's the MAN!!

Dude knows his monster - don't argue with him.

  • Oh he is soo right! Ray I love you forever, they could never reach what you created. It could always be only a bad imitation.

  • Truly Disappointing, I got this online from Watchclash d O T t k / . Movie could have been better than this

  • Yeah, he's right. There's something weird and frightening about stop-motion that makes it so arresting to watch.

CGI isn't necessarily more realistic; it's just a different kind of movement. And I have to say, it's about as good as stop-motion, without the fantasy element.

  • Why did they remake it CotTs. Nothing beats Ray Harryhausen.

  • medicinal marijuana

  • I agree with rudyghinasky 100%

  • Anyone who disagrees with this can shut up and just listen! When Harryhausen says something, all arguments are invalid! CGI can never match stop motion, and remaking a movie that was already good is pointless and is only done by greedy assholes who make movies for the money and not for the art.

  • no CGI can capture the "MAGIC of Ray Harryhausen"

  • the thing about stop motion is he is entirely right, it adds something to the fantasy, the jerky movements are more scary than the fluid stuff CGI offers, but all that means to me is, make more movies using stop motion! there is a place for both

  • In my opinion i go and see a movie for enjoyment, Not to compare CGI to SM and get in a fight with a bunch of fanboys, I say both are great. Just shut up and watch the movie.

  • In my opinion who cares if CGI is better than Stop Motion just shut the hell up and watch the dang movie it's simple.

  • Future filmmakers: LISTEN! LEARN SOMETHING!!!^

  • CGI blows monkey balls

  • He's right. The stop motion monsters are absolutely terrifying.

  • they look like a living nightmare, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED TO SCARE KIDS WITH THESE DAYS! None of this CGI crap!

  • That's right ....they have a Surrealism which isn't apparent in newer tecniques...

  • @Jenga666

Totally agree, stop motion/ real props are WAY more creepy and disturbing than CGI. CGI is over-done and can go suck a dick.

  • @CollosusXC For a film like KING KONG, stop animation SHOULD have been used. Because the original KONG is a horror-adventure film, and Sir Peter Jackson should have made his version as a horror, and stop animation would have made it creepy like the original was.

  • @Jenga666 Yup, nothing more scary than something that seems real but clearly isn't ... this is how Chucky is creepy, isn't it? Or why old dolls are so creepy. There's nothing worse than one of them coming alive ... because they're not living beings, nothing of them is living, so to see them moving around, it's like seeing the dead walk.

  • @Moseslawgiver Well put.

  • @Moseslawgiver Speaking of Svankmajer? Brothers Quay or both? :) Very well said.

  • First of all i love hausen's movie's but i had a problem with clash of the titans it seemed like the way they filmed it didnt match the creatures in it and every time i watch it that sticks out but they did a hell of a good job on the creatures especially medusa, and i dont think they should redo the movie, im convinced it wont hold true to the original.

  • @mannequinwizard

Sorry to burst your bubble but Clash of the Titans has been remade and yes it is shitty and yes the CGI is shit!

  • Well, the new movie is very much different from the original, from what I've been reading and seeing. The only real similarity is the title.

  • @bluestrikemike. Not well, the movie's a clone. Stop covering it.

    -R78

  • Remakes are done because someone doesn't have the Imagination to come up with an Original Idea. And anyone can hire a CG company to work on their movie there's very little Invention in that. They use CG in Commercials!!! Fun but cheap and uninspiring. It's about making money.

  • @slideharp1

I agree they are targeted at money, but albeit for a different reason. Films are owned by production companies and that ownership does not guarantee unlimited revenue because at some point those films will become public domain, unless the copyright is renewed for a remake.

  • Mmmm...I guess I never thought of remakes as a given thing,...cept the 'Elm St' things & whatnot....I 've saw a remake of 'Moby Dick' and it was just shite.

  • Dam straight, CGI has no soul, stop-motion weather it be for kids or creature fx, has blood sweat and tears in them, more passion goes into SM than CG!

  • It does depend on how its used. Jackson's Kong was extremely well done. It made me cry at the end, and there was a Beauty and the Beast element, something which would have made the whole movie irrelevant if it were missing. It was obvious that Kong loved her. Although I agree that practical effects are better in many respects, they take a lot of work and often come off as fake even despite being "nightmarish" or whatever. CGI is just a tool like anything else.

  • Jaba the Hut Puppet in "Return of the Jedi" vs the CGI Jaba in the prequels ? Puppet wins hands down.

Yoda puppet vs the CGI Yoda ? Loved them both !

Godzilla man in the suit vs Tri Star Zilla ??????

Rubber suit wins. CGI zilla animation was alright but the movie and design had too much wrong to know where to start complaining.

KING KONG stop motion vs CGI ??? Liked them both. But the Peter Jackson version

won me over with his cornucopia of

MONSTERS on Kong Island & the kong Trex fite.

  • i accept your opinion and admit jackson kong aw true to a real gorilla, but there was no "beauty and the beast" element, which the whole thing was based on, well more or less anyway....

then again with it jackson saying he wanted to create his own version of King Kong and not a remake, its kinda understandable.

Here one for you... Skeletons in Jason in the Argonauts or Skeletons in Spy Kids 2?

  • he's brilliant

  • I am a huge fan of the original Clash of the Titans, and agree you that this movie is classic. And Ray is right stop motion, does add to "the nightmare quality". The new movie will be good there can be no doubt because the story is timeless. But Ray's version will always be my favorite. My son and I admire all his work: Jason, Sinbad and all the rest and all those wonderful monsters. Ray is one in a million, we are graced by all his incredible work.

  • why remake it? MONEY. My goodness its so simple. Also, my opinion only of course, but CGI is one of the most amazing inventions in cinema history, but its so overdone sometimes. The star wars prequels are a good example. The lord of the rings is an example of how it can be done WELL. They did as many actual sets as possible, including that awesome on location Rohan fortress.

  • totally agree with you

but the new clash trailer/ cast looks badass

i get the feeling they're tryin 2 get the feel of 300 except with all the monsters and stuff

  • @tmc359 Yes (LOTR), the same for the new King Kong. Isn't for nothing that both was directed by Peter Jackson. A director who balances profit and visual storytelling senstitivity. As we can see, the absolute master, Harryhausen - does not detract the King Kong at all. Jackson wall praysefull to O'Brien. If broader ocidental audiences knowed better east-european stop-motion, whe should compreend more of what Mr. Harryhausen is saying.

  • Anyway, I have now the first citation to use in my dissertation about stop-motion puppet design and construction. Long live to the absolute stop-motion titan!!

  • @tmc359

I don't think it was money. Peter jackson was actually a huge fan of the original and it's one of the things that inspired him to start making movies. He put very careful attention towards the original and if you had seen how much you'd know it wasn't money.

  • @tmc359 Jackson did amazingly with Lord of the Rings....

But then he had to go be a CGI whore for "King Kong". He was 10x as bad as Lucas with that.

  • The original Kong and the latest remake were both great. The 70's version was a piece of crap. Also, Ray has a website that just launched last month.

  • Wah, Ray Harryhausen :-)

He's right. CGI is great, of course, but the stop motion really adds something, it gives more "matter" to the creatures and effects. One of my worst nightmares on the big screen was Cronenberg's "The Fly" : no CGI at all, just make-up... but it was *so* disturbing. The animatronic raptors in "Jurassic Park III" were very good, too, visually more impressive than the CGI ones, I think.

  • Shit Man Pillage whats left of Hercules

  • ray harry hausen is a living legend. Out of respect for him none of his films need be remade until his untimely passing. Ray was right youre never going to duplicate the star power his version had. Everythings cgi im so sick of it, wheres the love of the art, I cant man Im so pissed off. Ray you created the best special effects in hollywood history and we all love you

  • I'll go see it for sure, Greek Mythology is one of the genres that isn't done enough for the big screen...It's fills the screen with all the elements of an epic. With all respect to Harryhausen's stop-motion, I just finished watching it on my projector off the HD cable and I completely immersed into the story, but the thought did enter my mind that this IS one of those movies that could be fully realized with the CGI techniques we have available at our disposal now. Casting? ...it worked for JJ

  • I'd rather have a sequil than a remake. If they want to remake a movie, they should remake something that isn't still alive in pop culture. Next year, we have remakes of footlose, karate kid, and nightmare on elm street. Looks like I'll be saving money from not going to the movies since I've already seen those movies.

  • If they keep remaking these stop motion classics, they should do it in stop animation!

Or at least make the CGI look more...stop motion-like.

He is right, stop motion does seem...otherworldly and quite scary. The idea that objects that are not living can become part of the living has always creeped me, a bit like how at the campfire you spread stories about how dolls move and toys come alive at night.

  • What annoys me about re-makes is that there's thousands of brilliant NEW ideas and stories out there, that people are just trying to get an opportunity to try. But Hollywood seems to be just ignoring them and churning out cash cows.

  • Ok, from what I've seen from promo images, the remake will look like a hybrid between 300 (the CGI background) and Troy (the weaponry). I hope I'm wrong though.

  • Star Trek remake - nice CGI, but terrible movie.

  • Star trek was awesome

  • I hate remakes 99.999% of the time.

    Whats next? Star Wars remakes?

  • i like greek mythology,so i want to see a new movie with those lovely pics.

  • i would really love a remake it would be awesome

  • Stop motion has a certain artistic quality to it which can't be duplicated, but much of that has to do with the fact that you had to use a certain degree of imagination when watching these older stop-motion movies.

You guys will never enjoy the new movie because you already have a negative view of it and you'll be comparing every part of it to the original instead of enjoying the movie for what it is, even if it is leaps and bounds better than the original in terms of visuals, pacing and story.

  • Clash of the Titans is a Masterpiece for All-Time, to remake it would be an isult to Ray as well as lovers of the original.

  • Jowoltma -

I know! You are 100% correct.

When will Hollywood stop this BS? They remade Planet Of The Apes and now this? Soon they're probably gonna go from remaking films from the sci-fi/fantasy genre to the dramatic genre.

Next thing you know, we're gonna see remakes of Gone With The Wind and Citizen Kane . . . ugh. I don't even want to think about it.

Haha! Could you imagine Angelina Jolie as Scarlett O'Hara? Or Brendan Fraser as Rhett Butler?

  • Please dont give Hollywood any ideas... please.

  • Ray Harryhausen is a god, seriously who needs CGI when you have the greats of Stop Motion & Animatronics to keep you entertained, I wish modern Hollywood would understand that.

  • Clash of Titans remake will suck! every remake that hollywood has put out so far has sucked, they didnt need remaking, King Kong 2005 is ok, the dinosaurs and creatures i think were the only thing i liked about the movie, but i 100% agree with ray, stop-motion does give the creatures a nightmareish quality, CGI doesnt and will never do that! if you want an example of what i mean look at my 2005 UCLAN animation clip. Harryhausen & O'Brian tribute animation film is under way also guys!

  • I agree War Of The Worlds remake sucked, movie wasnt paced right TC was wrong person for the role, Haven't see The Day The Earth Stood Still, original or remake so no comment. I Am Legend Is Superior to the originals. King Kong was better than every remake so far and exceeded the original.

Peter Jackson just seems to understand caste pace and scale to bring you into his movies.

Clash of The Titans is one of those movies I dont think you can duplicate

  • Oh you're not missing anything with The Day The Earth Stood Still, the remake sucked a lot

  • 50's THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD is a classic, so is John Carpenter's THE THING though...

I agree : remaking movies only because studios lack of new ideas is a very bad habit, but remaking movies because they think they can make a better movie after the same story...? Let's them try !

  • i live in tenerife, and i can assure everyone that it is being remade right now and the sets are awsome!

  • Icon, Legend, Genious. I wish he'd start making films again. Anyone know if he has a mailing address?

  • So far, from "War of the Worlds", to "The Day the Earth Stood Still", the re-makes just haven't improved on the originals.

  • LEGEND!

  • He couldn't be any more accurate

  • I won't be watching this remake. It's most likely going to be like the majority of "big" action flicks these days -- fast, loud, shallow, CGI-filled with some weak "quiet" moments, those type of "quiet" moments that ring in a false manner that only American/Hollywood filmmakers can make. This new Clash, I sense, will be dark, somber and superficial. American moviemakers don't make films so much as make popcorn product. It won't be able to touch the light, fun nature of the 1980s version.

  • You really brought your thoughts home on that one. I agree on all you said.

  • I wonder if they gonna still keep the name Kraken or use Ceto? LOL

  • At first I was kinda' skeptical when I first heard of the remake. However, each news that I have been reading since from the remake make me more and more excited. This might actually turn out to be one of the best remakes since Dawn Of The Dead(2004) and The Thing(1982).

  • Ok please correct me but I heard they're casting Liam Neeson as zeus? ok i haven't seen many of his movies but his voice is too gentle.

  • he will live up to the role, he is no sir laurence olivier but he will get the job done

  • Sorry... There IS NOT ONE of Harryhausen's films that should have ever been remade! He gave us so many wonderful fantasy creatures that it is a despicable travesty to film any type of 'remake!' They have tried it with 'Jason and the Argonauts'... 'Mysterious Island'... and the Sinbad films... allwith poor results! Each of Ray'sfilms are classics! Let them remain that way!!!! Forget about remakes!

  • Thats the limit, I am never ever going to see any sequel or remake.

Because this and "Enter the Dragon" remake, is just unbelieveable.

I know an animation company that has 4 scripts done - great stories - great new fresh style - yet hollywood are too scared to try.......

and I am trying to get them to post some here, because it's so new so original it must be seen to be believed.

    Whats wrong with these people.

  • I respect Ray very much and dearly love C.O.T.T.

However, Ray has to come to terms with a sad reality, Hollywood no longer makes films. They remake them.

And, remaking them darker, less wholesome, and gruesome is a given.

However, there are some remakes I look forward to, such as this one. There is something to be said for some remakes and the most important point is this; remakes do not displace originals, they only exist (at best) along side them. Remakes don't harm originals.

  • Ray Harryhausen is " the man"!

  • i am definitely looking forward to this remake. this is a film that i think will be better than the original. the 80's version simply lacked something, not sure what. special effects will should be great in the new one. however, i am not thrilled by the fact that sam worthington will play the lead role, perseus. i was hoping someone like clive owen or gerard butler would play it.

  • My kids love Ray Harryhausens films and Clash of the Titans is a classic we have watched many times. No need for a remake, I am sure it will be poor, just like the remake of King Kong was poor.

  • Silly to remake it. There are so many other Greek myths they could scavenge...why redo something that was already done, and so brilliantly? You know it's just going to turn into another pseudo cartoon like "300" or "Beowulf."

  • Glad he's speaking his mind, this doesn't sound like a good remake to me.

  • (^ nothing wrong with schooling the elders.

(^ doing it with love, not scorn is help filled tho.

  • There is no person MORE responsible for the success of Clash of the Titans than this man and if HE thinks it shouldn't be remade with CGI effects then that should be the end of the argument! It's like they gave him a star on the Hollywood walk of fame... and then told him to get off the block. Remaking Titans with methods against his wishes is disrespectful to both the man and his art

    We Love Ya Ray!
